Hey everyone. I live down in Tampa and last year I saw a few DCU games in Bradenton but I haven't been able to find their preseason schedule. Can you guys help me out so I can drive down and see our boys play? Thanks.
D.C. United adjusted as best it could during the first wintry week of training camp in Washington. The coaches and staff shoveled the artificial turf grounds outside RFK Stadium for half-field workouts and the players utilized an indoor fitness center. They just needed to bear with it until Wednesday when they could escape the cold and fly to Florida for the second stage of camp, a 2 1/2-week stay in Bradenton (temperature: 59 degrees). But when the second big storm approached this week, the club scrambled to get out of town. AirTran honored United's request to depart a day early, but because of limited availability, the players, coaches and support crew were booked onto three separate flights. Most were on the first departure Tuesday, which ended up being delayed at Reagan National Airport, forcing them to miss a connection in Atlanta. That group was then divided into three parties for separate flights to Sarasota, Fla. All arrived in nearby Bradenton late Tuesday night. As for the other two flights out of Washington, they were cancelled. So a group of at least a dozen piled into a van before the brunt of the storm struck and drove 650 miles to Atlanta, arriving around midnight to await a flight this morning. They rejoined the first group in Bradenton around noon. This article is from 2 hours ago, but I could not find anything about Florida preseason match schedule...
http://www.dcunited.com/press-release/dc-united-announces-preseason-schedule I found this too, but it doesn't say anything specific...
http://www.behindthebadge.com/ It doesn't say anything right now, but usually it updates faster than DCU website itself. Ciao!
Good find, apqjr! You know what would be awesome? If United could somehow find a way to webcast these games. I don't care if it's a meaningless preseason friendly from Bradenton -- I'm starved for some United action!
What's the procedure for even going to watch the team...can you just park at a complex and walk over to a field, or is there more you have to do?
just to rase the spectrum of conspiracy which is always the preferred ideology of bigsoccer.com the team is afraid to have people watch them this season because they know they are more likely to be battling for the bottom and not fighting for a top position
I especially want to see a webcast of both our games on 2/26 - we have two games listed on two different fields, both at 10AM Since one opponent is just the USA U-17s, we probably figure we can play on the field next to it against some college team at the same time and beat them both
I was wondering about that, too... could just be a schedule f-up, of course, but I'm hoping what it is is one game for the younger players/trialists (against the U-17's) while having another, separate game for the established players against, say, an MLS side. ...Even as I'm typing that, however, it doesn't make sense. Why play 'em both at the same time? It makes evaluation harder.
Called IMG this morning, and they seem to believe the scrimmage today is a closed one. Said to call back Monday to find out if the one against the Red Bulls next weekend is open.
Today's lineup against Columbus according to DCU's twitter: ----Hamid---- Vaughn--Jakovic--McTavish--Burch Najar--DiRaimondo--Simms--Wallace Moreno--Christman Najar gets the start, huh...
5th minute, Hamid with a great save in the six-yard box. 8th minute, Columbus with strong build-up through the middle, McTavish own goal. Columbus 1-0 14th minute, Cristman blast goes just left of goal. (For any other DC United starved idiots like me, there is a twitter feed from United) http://twitter.com/Dcunited
18': Crew freekick punched away by Hamid, United countering down right flank. 26', still 1-0 Columbus, but United showing strong control in midfield. 32': a wonderful opportunity for the Black-and-Red, Jakovic charges forward, plays ball to Wallace on the left, cross inside barley misses! 37': Hamid with an excellent acrobatic save in the area, still 1-0 Crew.
Hamid had an "excellent save" in the 5th as well. I'm looking forward to being able to watch him play.
There seems to be a trend there. (Both Columbus getting numerous chances, and Hamid stopping them.) I hope the latter continues! (The former, not at all.)
45': In stoppage time now as we approach the half. HALF TIME: Columbus leads 1-0, no substitutions on either side in the first half.
Second half under way, substiutions: Adams on for Vaughn, N'Galula for DiRaimondo, and Khumalo for Moreno.
58': Mass United substitutions, Graye, Barklage, Wasson, Shipalane, and Gumede on... Cristman, Najar, McTavish, Simms, and Wallace off
From DC United Twitter: Glad to see the GKs are holding their own! Sounds like defense & goalkeeping is a little ahead of the attack, very early in the pre-season.
