Steve Nicol doing commentary on ESPN.

Is Tom Hill around? We need someone to translate.

He's doing a great job, good insight and agree that Donovan could stay at Everton a bit longer!

    Full time: 10-men Liverpool 1, Everton 0

And Fellaini is the dirtiest player in the EPL, wow!

And this is why we only post scores in threads with an "R" in the title.

    Awesome!

Sorry  - that's for clarifying. I missed that page in the big soccer manual.

However, maybe it's just me but if I don't want to know the score of a game, I don't go near the Internet given scores of big games are often times posted on yahoo and other home pages.

Secondly, I don't go near BigSoccer.com for fear of learning the score.

Oh, and lastly I don't click on a thread of said game for fear of learning the score.

Been posting here for 3 years and never knew what that meant. But knowing is half the battle so again, thanks it won't happen again.

Pro'ly my fault for not anticipating the posting of a result. ;)

If no [R] in the title, the alternative is to use the [ result ]text[/ result] tags (remove the spaces around the word "result") to get something like this:

    Full time: [result]10-men Liverpool 1, Everton 0[/result]

Sorry buddy but if you didn't want to know the score why did you enter a thread that says "Everton - Liverpool"?

Well chief, cause I thought the convention of putting an "R" in the thread title was pretty standard. But it is ok ace, no harm done pal. I only had the last 20 minutes to watch champ.

In fact guy, thanks for weighing in on this amigo.

Full marks for the least sincere "my bad" in internet history. If you have been posting here for three years and couldn't connect the fact that threads with the "R" had scores and discussion of recently completed or ongoing matches, you really have nothing to apologize for....it is not your fault.

Now that we have had our fun, back to the relevance of this match to the Revs.

I thought it was quite interesting to hear Nicol announce to a national TV audience that the Revs are in "rebuilding" mode. I wonder what that means to him/the Revs. Blow it all up?

Well captain, this is Bigsoccer and you discuss games, and after the game is over, you discuss the result. You shouldn't have read the thread if you weren't finished watching the game. Come on boss, use some common sense. They shouldn't feel bad for your inability to assume the scoreline was going to be discussed. If you don't want to know the result, don't visit Bigsoccer dude.

See, that was cathartic for everyone and I laughed out loud.

    Sorry for being pissy.....fella.

Although in fairness to me, I assumed that only the Nicol stuff would be discussed here, we don't usually devote threads to EPL games.

WOW. I don't know what to say to that. Going to be polite and not say anything.

Thank you for your points JMM, glad someone can see it.

    Anyways!

Please tell me this didn't happen.

I take it this means the scouting trip to Senegal is over?

    Hmmm..let's see.

Spend time in 3rd world African country without running water in my -2 star Hotel room or Watch/Comment on National TV for the team that made my career, in some cushy studio in CT...:D

Not to mention that the odds of finding the "right kind of player" in CT are at the very least equal to the odds of finding the "right kind of player" in Africa.

It did, he was in studio at halftime and they were doing a promo for the MLS season and Nicol announced that the team was in a re-building mode.

I know no one wants to hear that, but was it not sort of obvious? We've lost too many players this off-season for it not to be considered a rebuilding year.

Yeah, I agree, that pretty much means this season is going to be a very tough slog, but on the other hand, I guess I appreciate the fact that the coach isn't kidding himself either.

It would be kind of nice to see them take out some scaffolding and actually, you know, (re-)build? It would also be nice to know what kind of building materials they plan on using. Minimum builder's grade to meet code or superior brands...

If you read the prediction thread, apparently there are a few people that didn't think this was going to be a rebuilding year.

Nicol was very good with good comments and a professional on-air presence. And none of that fluffed up BS that we get from Harkes, Lalas, Foudy.

I dont see how a "rebuilding year" is any different than every other year for the Revs. When have the Revs actually gone for it? Put it on the line to win the cup? They've never done that, every year it's been draft picks and washed up guys that were serviceable 5 years ago in a mid-level European or South American league(for the most part.) That appears to be exactly what they are doing this year, so I dont see how it's any different. The only difference this year would probably be that instead of a 5% chance of the Revs spending money on a player or players that could put them over the top, there's a 1% chance this year.

I am not surprised. However, that's one reason I haven't yet entered my prediction. There are still just too many questions and holes right now for me to even think about an opening day line-up, let alone an entire season performance prediction.

In my mind, this team is still at least 2 starters away from a gameday roster, plus additional coverage...and you all know how much of an optimist I try to be. I'm reminded of my friend's facebook tagline...

"I'm a perpetual optimist who is continuously mugged by reality"
