Hey everybody, I heard this in the local news and thought of posting it here.
A local company in San Francisco created a software that helps tagging pictures of people missing on the Haiti quake with the hundreds of pictures photographers take everyday in Haiti. You can log in and help from any where in the world and spend as long as you want there helping.

Now please, continue with your schedule programming... :D

You want to talk awkward, try finding your dearly departed fathers naughty movie drawer while cleaning out his house. But if the angels descended from heaven and told me I could ask him one last question I'd ask him, "Why and the hell there is a random engine in the attic and just how am I supposed to get it out of there?" Wait is that two questions?

This is a small, small consolation, but --

Be thankful you're old enough to know what papers to keep and what to toss. When my mom died I was 15, and for the life of me I didn't think about keeping things like her social security number, bank accounts, any sort of IDs or diplomas, etc. It didn't even register on my scale of things I needed to keep.

Yes, I kep the knick knacks and fave books, etc. But the paperwork and grown up stuff, I didn't have a clue about and it seems like once every 2-3 years, it comes back to bite me in the ass.

I'm sorry to hear you lost your mom so young. I was 22 when my mom passed away. My dad handled all the legal stuff. One of the cool things about cleaning out the house is finding stuff of hers that I haven't seen in 2 decades. I did find the original marriage certificate for my grandparents from Warrington, England dated 18-something or another. I think I'm going to have it framed.

Soooo... I (have to) cheer for Marta now? It's going to take me a minute to wrap my brain around that.

No. I'm still all heartbroken from losing the last one. :( Even worse the FCGP released Arakawa so now it's like...I lost one of my favorite international players to get one of my least favorite. I don't know why Marta bugs me but she does. And it's not like I don't like the Brazilian players in general...I totally <3 the CyberRays Brazilians. It's just all wrong somehow. :|

So, do to the fact that I have finally had it with my current workplace, I am in the market for a new job. Actually, I have decided to go back to school so I basically need a place to work for the summer and make some money so I can go back to school in the fall. Any suggestions?

What kind of job do you have now? And what kind of money are you looking to make?

The economy still isn't all that great. Jobs of any kind down here are pretty hard to come by. There's no chance you can't tough it out at your current job until you go back to school in the fall?

I'm not sure I could handle another summer in my current job. My tolerance for working for someone who has absolutely no clue as to what is going on outside of their office and who, in my opinion, is actively trying to lose good employees and money, is pretty much gone. So I was just looking for something different for the summer and save up the money I make.

I might be able to tough out another summer where I'm at but I gotta factor in the partner, who is looking for a job as well. So we are trying to find something in the same area for both of us. I don't know what I'm going to end up doing.

Oh, and I am currently residing in beautiful, snowy, cold Wisconsin still :)

So happy that Mitts isn't playing for Boston anymore...

I can return to referring to her as Ditsy again.

Too bad they don't let you cut down the nets in soccer when you win a championship. I mean, I get it that they're more expensive, but then you don't get that awesome combination of ladders + scissors + happy athlete = impending danger but who cares?

I need that picture desktop wallpaper sized. I would probably even pay AP for it if I could figure out how to navigate their webpage as a "for personal use" person. But apparently I have to sign my life away before I get a price quote. Argh.

To anyone who watched the US Women play Mexico at San Diego yesterday, whether on TV or live...

I was the obnoxious horn. :) And I randomly blew it at the 80th minute and right before the end of the game. Hehehe. I'm famous... (or not...)

    C'est la vie!

I worked hard at my job, overtime, weekends, and nights. I was able to teach completely illiterate people on how to use a computer systems properly, I trained, showed and illustrated.

I flipping almost died while working there!

How many people (mainly civilians and those who not carry weapons) can said they have bled for their work?

Now, the Executive Director informed me that my job is being eliminated... I have to decide whether to leave allowing them to lay me off or take a job someplace else within the organization that pays me half of what I was making.

The decision is expected by 3:00 p.m. tomorrow...:(

Thanks. I think I'm going to say I'll take the pay cut. With so short notice, its hard to even get a feel of how the market is doing and I would hate to spend my 10K and have no job to go to.

Yeah I don't know what your bills are like. But if I was single with no kids, I'd take the 10K and look for something somewhere else, even if you had to move. Don't know your employer, but if they're eliminating your current job, it might be just a matter of time before they eliminate the one they're putting you in and with no 10K severance.

I'm kinda facing something similar. The AF is cutting about 30% from several year groups... including mine. They're offering folks 2x the separation pay if they leave voluntarily.

I'm just kinda hoping I'm not the bottom 30%...
