Looks like he has a predilection for nailing those just-under-the-crossbar shots. Some really high-quality finished on that video!

It should be noted, for better or for worse, that all of those highlights date back to before his transfer to Basel. It does not appear that any Basel fans made any such attempt to honor the man with a compilation of highlights. I hope that isn't a bad sign.

For what its worth, FIFA 2010 doesn't rate him highly. 66.

Thread title, "Eduardo Highlight", is a little worrisome too. Hopefully there is more than one highlight. :) In Basel he was about as productive or better than he was in Toulouse. His best years appear to have been in the Belgian league (Charleroi), but I would assume that's an inferior league to the Swiss and French leagues(?)

let's quit trying to find reasons to speculate on his certain failure, and just wait and see what he does for us....if he gets the bulk of the starts, doesn't produce and looks bad to boot, then by midseason we'll know that we need to look in another direction....until then. let's just look forward to him finding the net for us!!!!

You're parroting Frank and John's philosophy, by midseason it's too late to be making decisions that drastically affect the team because the season could be lost by then.

Yes, I think Mr. King of Beers is right. The picture should be completely clear by the tenth game as my beer-bet with Mark calls for. The middle of the season, i.e., 15 games is much too late.

no, actually i'm just weary of all the chicken littles on this board who know dick about soccer....they consign someone to failure because fox soccer channel doesn't broadcast games from the league in which a player plays or the statistics don't jump out at you....let's see how a player does here, in this league, on our team.....hell, we don't even have reports of how a player has looked in practice, and even then, that would be a sorry indication at this juncture

I lived in Switzerland for 3.5 of Eduardo's 4 years at Basel. I am familiar with the player, probably more than anyone else posting here. When it comes to Eduardo, I am both positive but cautious. Eduardo has the pedigree to be a good performer for us. Basel may play in the Swiss superleague, which is crap but they dominate it and also regularly play in the UEFA Cup/Europa League. Eduardo in form can possibly carve up MLS defenses, but I am cautious about him. For one his production at Basel was way below what he had done for previous clubs. His first season at Basel was his best as well. My point about the highlights is that while they show some brilliant finishing, they show finishing that all took place 5 years ago or earlier. While I expect that he can be good, I just think the degree of excitement that has been creeping in should be checked a little.

What do you mean no? Allow me to quote you. Again.

"let's quit trying to find reasons to speculate on his certain failure, and just wait and see what he does for us....if he gets the bulk of the starts, doesn't produce and looks bad to boot, then by midseason we'll know that we need to look in another direction"

What part of my post was incorrect? Did you or did you not say we should wait for midseason to judge whether he's good enough for the team? Haven't Frank and John done that very thing the last two seasons?

Again, something that should be tattooed on every poster's arm:

MLS only gets players who have something wrong with them.

Players who come and play here are older or younger, more injury-prone, have 'issues', have lost form, are still searching for their form, or are American. Players are independent economic actors and want to maximize their earnings and exposure, and MLS just isn't the top of most players' list of places to go.

So of course Eduardo (is there a Portuguese suffix that means 'no, the other one'?) is a gamble. So is Joey Gjertjsjen. So is Ramiro Corralles. If any of these guys were a sure thing, they'd be over in England trying to keep John Terry away from their WAGs. Instead, they're playing in San Jose on a converted baseball diamond for Bundesliga 3 wages.

    Okay, carry on.

which was my point as well......mant are way too quick to annoint or denigrate him.....just want to see him actually play, for the quakes, before i render judgement......given the posts prior to my first post in this thread, i thought that was a reasonable and easily understandable point....apparently context is elusive

I think I would hold my judgement until I can see him play. I still remember back in 2008 we had discussions on Marlon James amazing scoring stats in Malaysia and his actual ability mainly based on highlights and posts from Malaysia. Of course, he didn't sign with SJ and opted for USL. I watched some (but not a lot) USL games and he did score. However, I would not think he would cut it in MLS, at least not going to be a regular starter. My point is we don't have enough info to say one way or the other right now. Sometimes even the pre-season performance is not a good indicator. See Lozzano.

You did better than I did. The couple of times I tuned in to see him play he was on the bench and merely got a few substitution minutes.

At least with Eduardo, he's been in for a trial. And those aren't game minutes, but at least it's better than sight unseen.

I didn't see James play for Vancouver, but he averaged about a goal per (full) game. I think his problem was injuries that kept him off the field. But when he was on it, the numbers say that he was tearing it up. Eduardo is a few years younger though, supposedly, and has played in better leagues.

    Pansy! ;)

    Yeah!

OK, so yes, we'll have to wait and see on all of these guys. I'm hoping that Eduardo turns out to be great for us, and Gjoey too! Heck, I want Ribeiro to have a great year for us. Maybe I should drink more ...

    Go Quakes!! :D

I'm getting worried/annoyed at how long this is taking to finalize. I understood that to a point because of the Euro transfer window closing perhaps mucking with the transfer certificate, but now it's feeling drawn out like the Peter Byers' affair. Are they waiting on the CBA?

I am curious the story here. It may not end up to be a big deal, even if he doesn't come back, in that we don't have enough roster spots for all the picks unless there's expansion of the roster this year even if we drop players that we fans consider our dead weight. But I'd still be interested why the sudden departure since he had reported to camp with the others, or so we were told.

Thomas may well have just gotten the word from the Swedish team to come try out. I'm sure these guys all have a lot of irons in the fire. He may or may not catch on over there. He might be more interested in going if he fears a striker or lockout here.

This isn't necessarily a JD screw up ... but of course, it could be.

    Go Quakes!! :D
