I talked with three Stars players; plus Tacoma will go pro in 2010-11:

"We are a team that is built of friends more than just players. Our season had a motto that our commitment to defending would be our key to success, and I think because we are all such good friends we were willing to make sacrifices for each other that other teams maybe were not. This trip specifically, I will never forget chanting jingle bells on the center circle after the final." ---Lukas Rydberg

I hope they play in a real arena if they are gonig pro. There is nothing professional about the Tacoma Soccer Centre.

No place to play in Tacoma. The Dome is way too big. The best smaller (6k) arenas are in Everett and Kent.

Stars do have a 'plan' for a larger, new center and arena, but not enough money to do it yet.

Completely agree that the soccer center is not pro in any way. When I talked with the Stars about something as simple as replacing the worn plexigas so fans could see the match better (or how about the netting and chain link fencing) I was told that each plexiglass section cost over $300. SO doing the whole main pitch would likely cost around $10,000 or more.

The entire PASL "pro" is built around mediocre soccer played in practice facilities. Why would anyone think next year would be any different. We were promised improvement over last year, and two teams never made it to the finish line, and almost all of the teams still played in shacks (some in more than one).

Then you must have not seen where the Sockers play. Their facility is awesome. The Del Mar Arena is very nice!

Two real arenas (San Diego and Stockton), and the rest indoor soccer facilities where there are youth teams lined up next to the benches waiting for the "pro" game to end.

If a new professional sports team is launched in a town and the local media doesn't cover it - is it real?

They need to play in a place where there are no rats running around in the back hallways, with a dasherboard system that is not 35 years old, and in a league where the goal size differs from arena to arena depending on what era the "soccer center" was built.

I do agree with you on the goal size. I think all the teams should have the same size goals as well as the same size fields. Some of the soccer fields are smaller than others and that is not good. They don't have different size football fields in the NFL. I know this is not an NFL type league, but there should still be certain standards.

The field size is a little different. Goal size should be consistant in every facility.

I have to agree... petty bitching aside it's laughable that there is no set standard goal size. Might as well set up some milk crates on each end and use them.

It does not rain directly on their field. There have been a few games during a storm and no rain ended up on the field. The one time it did come onto the field was during a huge wind storm that we had in San Diego. We were also having tornado warnings that day as well. Come on, tornados in San Diego, it was a freak thing. S*it was big don't make it bigger than it is. The Del Mar Arena is a lot nicer than the Sports Arena where they use to play. As a matter of a fact I have been to other arenas across the US thru out the years to see the Sockers play and the Del Mar Arena was nicer than most of those.

The fact that it did and the probability that it can still rain on the field is a major negative. We aren't talking about tiles falling from the Spectrum here.

It also rains on the fans... come on... the Sockers legacy and it's current fans deserve better. If it's a one and done situation, I can live with it but to call this a valid home field that upholds the standards of the PASL is wrong.

Considering there will be minimum standards put into effect for next season one can only presume that the current infrastructure would fall outside of the listed standards. We aren't talking Iverson practice here, we're talking about rain on an indoor pitch, it's moronic.

The fact that a converted horse barn is better then every other PASL venue outside of the part time Stockton arena should tell you something. And Del Mar is nicer than which other facilities that you have been to? Just curious.
