If I recall correctly, 9 of the 10 teams got new uniform designs last season. All except the Revs. With Umbro America collapse it is all but certain the Revs are getting new kits in 2004. Are there any other rumors of teams getting new uniforms or adding a mythical 3rd jersey to their collection? I hope so. Last years unis weren't bad individually - but as a group they are rather bland. This black short - red/blue and / or black stripe combo is getting old. The away all-whites is grating game after game (MLS Cup 2003 a screaming exception to the rule - a dazzling display). I would give my left nut for an MLS team to wear white shorts at home for crying out loud. And while I applaud the Red Stripe / River Plate LA stripe - the color scheme does not do the team justice.
word is the Crew are getting new jerseys in 04, not any big changes, probably just the newest adidas design.
All adidas teams will be getting at least one new jersey this year. The designs have been floating around for some time. Only real major change looks to be the black crew jersey will become a black and yellow striped jersey. Revs are changing suppliers to Reebok. Chicago will likely be adding a third jersey in light blue. There are rumors Nike teams may be updating their jerseys so that they aren't one full generation behind Nike teams in other countries and then go back to the two-year cycle. Dallas and Colorado will likely remain unchanged.
Chicago Fire third kit The often rumored Chicago flag third kit is rumored to be coming next year. We were supposed to get a third uniform this past season, but there were manufacturing problems IIRC. Whether or not the "flag" kit comes to pass, we should be getting a third kit this year. Damn I love Puma.
The Quakes changed last year, if that helps. Why do teams that don't have color conflicts have to go all white on the road?
Re: Chicago Fire third kit Aren't you just a little upset that they don't feature your championship star over the Chicago Fire crest?
Is Reebok Dead? I don't see the influence in footie that Nike and Adidas have...just curious. I mean besides Liverpool, what other BIG clubs have them...oh wait the MIGHTY and AWESOME....BOLTON Wanderers FC of the Northwest part of England in the Premiership. BTW, PUMA SUCKS! I love Adidas and Nike. Hey, I'm an American (have to like Nike AND I'm also have German ancestry+their kits are SWEEEEEEET!
I remember that most of the new jerseys made their debut by or at the Superdraft, does anyone know if that will be the case this time around?
Re: Re: Chicago Fire third kit No. Personally (and I'm hardly the only one that doesn't feel this way) I don't want a damn star. I'm sure if the management wanted us to have one, we would. So at least a few people toward the top feel the same.
Re: Is Reebok Dead? Um, you do know in addition to Puma sponsoring the Chicago Fire, they are a german company, right? Not to mention the originate from the same family as adidas does.
Actually, the home and away jerseys for Chicago will both be changing. Though not in appearance. The players have requested a change in feel. There'll be a material change.
Re: Is Reebok Dead? Reebok also are the kit supplyers for Manchester City and West Ham United, both great looking kits in my opinion.
Re: Re: Chicago Fire third kit Absolutely not. Don't get me wrong, I wanted the trophy, but I actually really like the fact that we don't put stars above our crest.
I for one could give a crap about new uniforms. I'm not concerned as to how the team looks on the field, or whether they look "european" or not. I don't really care about the logos either. For me the real excitement of MLS is going to the games, watching soccer, and supporting my team whether they win or lose.
Here's how I rate MLS uniforms right now, in order from best to worst: 1.DC United - great 2.MetroStars - great 3.Cowlumbus Crew - great 4.Chicago Fire - good 5.Los Angeles - good 6.Kansas City - good 7.Colorado Rapids - good 8.New England - meh 9.Dallas Burn - meh 10.San Jose - craptacular I would only change the San Jose jersey and maybe the Dallas and New England ones too. But most MLS jerseys look pretty decent.
The San Jose jersey is changing for 2004 - next year's version will have two stars above the jersey logo crest. -G
i hate the new galaxy jeresey. i was all ready to buy one with the championship star and then nike revealed their latest piece of crap. i'm holding off until LA's looks good.
They also have this strategy for slow penetration of the market. Basically, they'll get the right deal with the right team at the right price. Man City are a big club, bigger than some would think, as are Liverpool. The West Ham deal is because West Ham sell shirts and they are the 11th biggest team in the country. Reebok UK are based in Bolton, thus Reebok sponsor and manufacture their kits. I can see them taking over another team but the top end of the market is now fiercely competitive, with Adidas and Nike competing for the top teams (Nike usually winning, as evidenced by Arsenal and Man Utd). The Revs would be their in to the US market and I can confirm that they make a decent kit, sold in short and long sleeve styles. Umbro are concentrating on boots, sportswear and their golden goose, the England team. Bearing in mind that England was their territory, the only Premier League club with Umbro kit is Chelsea. All their big teams were slowly but surely stolen and Umbro only ever did big teams.
