Does it embarrass you as much to write this as it embarrasses me to read it?

    Greetings from London

Where I have been reading ALL of the football coverage. Among it is the list of all premiership teams and their rumored transfers. Carlos Bocanegra's name appears nowhere. The only American rumored is McBride to Blackburn.

Fergie claims to be seeking a striker and says he has no plans to replace Ferdinand at this time.

You mean not fast like Donovan and Beasley, or not fast like Orange Traffic Cone?
What do you want, 4.2s from a center back?
I wouldn't call him speedy, but he's definitely got more pace than most central defenders....

NO news out of Upton Park since Motzkin's statement. I think the big hold up is Boca's switching agents and the battle between the two.

As a WHU supporter, I'd love him there.

  10. Who says he is going to England? I thought I heard Hannover..??

Guys, Boca isn't that good when it come to major Euro clubs, I'm not knocking him, I like the guy but he can't link up with the midfielder to save his life. He's very good at shutting down the attacking offense but his problem is when the ball is at his feet, he give up the ball way to easily and half of his passes are given right back to the other team.

Recent events have renewed my hopes that Carlos will go to Feyenoord. That is my guess.

You're not very bright are you? The UK Dept. of Employment issues work permits, not the FA.

As to not playing the US, I presume that England also wouldn't arrange a friendly against a country such as Australia. After all, can you imagine the embarassment if they were to lose to them? The FA would never risk that. Apparently.

have you ever seen him play, or are you just making that up on the spot?

so, since your name is USsoccerman, i'm assuming you've seen most if not all of the US national team games. if he's so bad with the ball at his feet, and can't link up with the offense, how was he tied for first/second (sorry, can't remember which it is, still recovering from last night) in points for the nats?

he won't be starting at center mid anytime soon, but his skill on the ball is not a problem

Its what makes him the best defender we have and possibly the best in our region. He's what you would call a complete defender. Get him into a good Euro squad and the sky is the limit. Next time, Landon won't score that goal on him.

England won't play us in a friendly because they have no reason to. I don't give a *#*#*#*# if we ever play England, and they certainly don't give a *#*#*#*# if they ever play us. They only schedule friendlies against European countries and their commonwealths (South Africa, Australia, etc.) England isn't "scared" to play the US, they just have no reason to schedule a friendly against us.

Also, Bocanegra has never applied for a work permit, thus it could have never been rejected. Rejecting Convey's WP was complete BS though.

The Dept of Employment's job is to adhere to the employment rules of the UK. This absolutely nothing to do with the purported goals and aspirations of the FA, particularly ones as comical as those you ascribe to them.

As to being embarassed about the Australia defeat, that's comical. Noone gives a sh1t about friendly games, particularly given Erickson's policy of playing completely differeing teams in the first and second halves. And, perhaps you haven't noticed that England has lost just one competitive game (you know, the sort of game where the result actually counts for something) in the last 3 years. And yet you have us believe that instead the FA is embarassed about the result of some meaningless friendly instead. Please.

OK, let's all take a trip to the la-la land where you live and assume that a sporting organisation can overrule the government. I can't comment on this Convey's ability, but bearing in mind the number of non EU players in the premiership it's certain that there are a large number of far better non-EU players than him, and there are also a fair number of non-EU players who are worse than him, all from a range of countries that are better or worse than the USA.

so what are the FA scared of? That he'll be better than English players? If so then why did they let all the other players better than him get work permits?
Are they saying the US team isn't good enough? Then why do they grant work permits for players from countries undeniably worse than the US team?
Or are you suggesting that the FA vindictively have something against the USA in particular. Perhaps you imagine that like all currencies are valued against the dollar, every country in the world rates their team relative to the USA, and defeat would prove to the world that the USA has taken over.

Maybe if you actually knew how the WP regulations worked you wouldn't go off on one and make such a fool of yourself.

Bearing in mind that the UK has possibly issued more WPs to American players over the years than any other nation, why do you persist in being the argumentative equivalent of Douglas Bader?

Has the USA's FA ever contacted their counterparts in England to try to arrange a friendly? Even if they have, how many friendly requests do you think England get for every friendly fixture slot? As much as you may think you have a point to prove against England, the amount of reciprocal feeling is absolutely zero. There just isn't any reason why England would choose a game against the USA above all others.

As for the embarrassment of losing to Australia, as bad a result as it was, if losing to them would have been so traumatic then why did Sven substitute his entire team at half time, pretty much wrecking any chance of pulling back the 2 goal deficit? And I have to say, English football was hardly rocked to it's core because of it. It's a friendly. Teams are generally pretty slack in friendlies. A few years ago we stuffed Mexico 4-0 in a friendly. The talk wasn't "we must be great if we can beat Mexico 4-0", it was "Mexico must be dreadful if they can lose 4-0 to us in a friendly".
