Can someone less lazy than me start a real thread on the 2010 roster? (stickered) Looking for volunteers with time on their hands.

Is this the Fire's slogan for signing new players in 2010?

So if the rumored signings thus far come true (I know I know, "rumored" but gimme a break it's the offseason) then we might see this for the 2010 campaign.

    Busch
    Ward, CJ, Conde, Krol
    Pause
    Martinez, Pappa
    Thorrington
    Nyarko, McBride

Bench: Mapp, Husidic, Banner, Lowry, Backup GK

That is a hot team. Should contend for the Cup again. If DlC has an attacking philosophy as has been suggested by Fire management, he should be happy. As a 1st time manager in MLS, he could have inherited a lot worse (glances NY's direction).

Is Krol a central defender or is he a left/right side defnder.

If he's a central defender who does he play with (CJ or Conde).

If it's Conde then we could have a line up something like this (That's if CDLC brings Julio Martinez with him)

    Busch
    Ward, Krol, Conde, Woolard
    Pause
    Martinez, Pappa
    Thorrington
    Nyarko, McBride

If it's CJ then we could have a line up something like this (That's if CDLC brings Julio Martinez with him)

    Busch
    Ward, CJ, Krol, Woolard
    Conde
    Martinez, Pappa
    Thorrington
    Nyarko, Mc Bride

If we sign Krol, Martinez and a new DP (#10) then we could put out a lineup like this

    Busch
Ward, Conde, Krol, Woolard or (Ward, CJ, Conde, Krol)
    Thorrington
    Martinez, Pappa
    DP?
    Nyarko, Mc Bride

But with what we have as of today our line will look something like this.

    Busch
    Ward, CJ, Conde, Woolard/Banner
    Thorrington/Pause
    Mapp, Pappa
    Husidic/Thorrington
    Nyarko, Mc Bride

If he goes more attacking then it's Thorrington and Husdic, if he goes more defensive then Pause and Thorrington.

So Frankie plaese bring in Krol, Martinez and a new DP for 2010.

Early reports suggest that Krol is a fullback, and a direct replacement for Segares.

We're either going to need more production out of McBride and have Nyarko continue on the development curve he seemed to be on towards the end of the year, or we're going to need to sign a forward. As much as I like seeing midfielders score, it's time he had a guy who we could count on for more than ten a season.

We definately have to sign a DP who can not only create but pass and score, plus another goal scoring forward.

Agree with this except I hope we use our DP on a CAM. Not sold on handing Thorrington the keys to the car in a 4-4-2. Would love to see Thor OR Pause paired with a DP #10. The rest of that lineup looks good and we can use the draft to build depth especially at CB with CJ and Conde only here for the short term.

We'll get Krol and Martinez, I'm sure we will get a forward as well to replace Rolfe. I am worried about our CAM, is Thorrington the guy? I don't think so. Maybe Pappa can fill that role with Mapp and Martinez going wide with Baggio playing DM.

Does anyone know what the preferred formation was for El Salvador under Cobos? Did he play a 4-4-2, a 3-5-2, or maybe a 3-4-3?? I could see us switching formations if the plan is for us to become a real offensive team, maybe something like I saw with AC Milan yesterday with 3 forwards.

Looks like we might be sniffing around Ramon Morales. I would think to play striker and give relief on the left wing if need be.

I am not sure about this. Granted I am not very familar with this players and what his best attributes are, but if indeed we are looking at him as a forward he scored only 6 goals for Mexico in 64 caps and 66 in 375 games for Chivas. I am sure some people on here no more about him though so I will listen to what they have to say.

  14. AFAIK, Ramoncito is an out and out winger, more of a raider than a finisher. He's a fine player, but may be worth DP money only to draw the hard core Chivistas.

So Carlos is saying he would like to sign Morales, but it looks like their may be some stipulation with Chivas on this?would be an interesting signing and would throw our MF mix into an intersting scenario, maybe Carlos thinks Pappa could be used as a tempo control Center mid and Martinez and Morales on the wings. It would be an interesting experiement, and I have to say the thought of a Morales cross to Martinez/McBride/Pappa puts a grin on my face. This signing would make us one of the more dangerous teams down the wings, wouldnt answer the center of the park.. but Frankie and Carlos may see something in one of the young guys, Pappa or Thor.

  16. CdlC says he may move to a 3-5-2. Back to the old Bradley days. With that formation, we could have Krol, Conde, and Ward in back. Midfield could be Pappa, Mapp or Husidic, Pause, Thorrington, and Martinez, with McBride and Nyarko up top. I like that, but I still think an ACM would be best and we could definitely use another striker. Also, while I love Jon Busch, he is getting older and he is smallish. We need to add a credible backup keeper.

Morales is still under contract with Chivas de Guadalajara until this summer, but the club has apparently gotten him to agree to leave early in exchange for some $$$. Prior to that, Chivas USA made an offer to him, which he turned down. He has said that he will train by himself for the next six months before deciding where to go next, but that was before de los Cobos got the Chicago job. If he were to sign with Chicago before this summer, he might be forced to give back some or all of the money that Chivas gave him to get lost. I think that is the 'stipulation' that is being referenced.

Was watching Cameroon vs Gabon in the ACN and I noticed this guy is a free agent and a pretty tidy player:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stéphane_Nguéma

We should extend some feelers to him to shore up our attacking mid/strikeforce (unless we have plans for an out-and-out striker/CAM DP)

What's the lastest with Conde? haven't heard much lately, but always had the impression he wanted to leave ASAP. Is he basically stuck under contract and therefore w/ the Fire for another year or two?

Didn't know this Krol signing was such a sure thing, but sounds great.

We definitely need another starting striker and another backup to keep Carr working.

I see no reason we should keep Carr working at all. Isn't he out of contract?

So Ives seems to think we are pursuing an Attacking Mid with our open DP slot. Any thoughts or ideas who it could be?

If it's a quality signing, I will have to conclude this will have been the best offseason that I can remember.

I thought after this past season we were done and entering a rebuilding phase, but it actually looks like a RELOADING phase.

Replace Noble with Dykstra and pray to Jobu that we don't keep playing Calen 70k, or anything else for that matter. Also, do GA players count against our development slots?

The disparity btw Mapp and Pappa, both in terms of ability and pay is staggering.

Dykstra is gone. We are not going to carry 3 goalkeepers and considering Johnson is going to be free for a couple years, there is no point and wasting salary on a 3rd string GK.
