I know, this sounds crazy, but could it happen?
I wouldn't be suprized if the MLS has 2 leagues " MLS vs NASL " and at the end they meet for the Cup, just like in baseball " AL vs NL. I mean this seems to be the american way and it would probably be way more competition and exciting.

I don't think they will ever do reg/pro and personally I don't like it.

    What do you think ?

I think that a bunch of marginally competitive teams that were crammed into a clown car named "USL" have moved and are now piled into a new clown car named "NASL" and that you're getting way too excited about the new clown car.

It's same old crappy teams that were in USL-1, so why do you suddenly expect great things out of what is essentially just a new league name?

The winner of the Stanley Cup and Calder Cup do not meet to decide a winner, just as the Winner of the International League does not play against the team that wins the world series. And I will be impressed if you can find an example in international sports where the first division winner plays the lower division winner to decide whos better.

The US Open Cup does provide a forum for an "all-comers" tournament where MLS, USL, and presumably NASL clubs can duke it out for one trophy along with amatuer teams.

I dont see much of a point in a "super cup" as most USL / NASL teams arent that super at the moment. But the outlets are there in both the Open Cup and concacaf champions league where MLS sends representatives, puerto rico gets to send a representative, as does Canada which is decided by their own Canadian Cup.

Promotion/relegation is coming boys just sit tight...

please what ever you do dont compare baseball (most boring sport) to soccer..

NASL is second division why in the world would they play each other, theyll probably meet in the USOC..

Quick question, why dont you like Pro/rel? You scared of losing your team to second division? you dont have enough pride in your team if they were relegated to second division?

Man I hope that is the main reason most people dont like the pro/rel talk, if it is yall need to get some pride and grow some balls!! Soccer is about pride I stick with my teams even if they were relegated

People who dont like PRo/REL= VAjINAS (stick to your baseball)

Lets get MLB to play all of the minor league champions. And the Lakers can whoop up on the NBDL's best team.

The gulf in talent is not near as big between MLS and NASL, but "major" leagues don't compete with "minor' leagues, which is why I'm still so amazed that the US Open Cup doesn't get more attention.

Maybe you haven't been sitting tight enough. It's the only logical thing standing between promotion/relegation and MLS.

It does. Trust yourself. It does sound crazy. So don't post it.

    Gee, thanks.

Ah: It was the "clown car" image that made Ismitje think of this forum.

    Tough crowd!

REL SUCKS !!! European leagues suck. The only thing good are the derbies or the top teams playing against each other.
CL rules, again the best of the best.
Three quarters of the table in each league will allways suck, they will never smell a CL game.
    You think that's good ?
so you create a REL/PRO to give some excitment at the bottom of the table so that the bottom teams can have some excitement, actually that will be the only excitement they will ever have.
no wonder all the leagues in Europe have only 3 or 4 good teams, that's because all the other teams are feeders to the top teams.
europe is slowly opening their eyes to the mistakes they have made, many teams are so in debt that it's not even funny, the leagues are not competetive and unless the the top teams play on TV, who cares.
Even F1 is chaging their tune, they are now implementing salary cap so they don't go broke.
i can go on, but you guys know everything. you guys sre not real fans of MLS, if MLS was in your hands the league would've been gone by now.
I would rather see a stable MLS and everyone making money than a stupid system that will bring down a league. If it wasn't for the millions the banks in Europe are shelling out most leagues would be gone.

NASL vs MLS and AL vs NL shouldn't even be in the same thread, much less the same sentence.

It's major league vs AAA, if you're lucky.

Isn't there the possibility of having 2 second divisions below MLS? Why not have USL vs NASL? I mean this is way too early to seriously consider since the leagues haven't been sorted out yet but I think this would be more feasible than NASL vs MLS.

That's not a bad idea, and could work, if all sides would play nice. There may be way too much bad blood between the two sides for this to ever happen. I don't what the heck US Soccer is doing, seeming sitting on their hands, trying to wish all of this away. If there were two D 2 leagues, the USL would have to clamor to get some more teams up. Playing the same team every couple of weeks or so would get old quick. :D

Yeah, a USL v. NASL "super cup' would be pretty cool. But there is a lot of bad blood between the two sides at this point.

Re: Two leagues MLS vs NASL- (conspiracy at work) at the Super Cup!

This division and strife in our U.S. Soccer is all due to actions taken as part of a massive conspiracy involving various industrial powers. These multinational corporate interest are secrectly and collaberativly using subtle and nefarious means in which to bring this unsightly turn of events about.

Perhaps we should consider expelling their diplomats (Euro clubs sponsoring teams here). We need a congressional investigation to get to the bottom of this. It's time for assembling a grand jury.

Friggin paper pushers F'ing up the beautiful game.

May these motherless b'stards all be damned to that special part of hell with all lawyers and bad ref's. :D
