I was away last weekend but I will try to get to the site Sunday. I asked Carl about getting inside the stadium to take pictures, because at some point, hopefully soon, exterior pictures each week will become redundant. I have yet to hear back.
I would hope that an image from an interior webcam would look markedly better since it would be positioned much, much closer than the existing webcam. Anyway, I'd prefer the virtual seat selection system to really be announced as up and running as the next thing from the FO.
I spotted this link in the News and Analysis section about the ripping up of the artificial surface at Toronto's BMO Field, and the installation of their grass surface in time for their home opener, against us. http://www.thestar.com/sports/soccer/mls/article/735528--bmo-field-of-dreams-takes-shape I found it quite interesting, as I've not seen much info on the installation of our pitch. Has anyone heard any details about ours yet?
After seeming to be stalled with very little progress, I am amazed at how fast your new stadium is going up! Any idea of what the projected date is for installing sod? Where is the section for SOB's going to be located? Once the parking lot is created and the surrounding concrete is poured, this stadium will start looking really sharp. It already looks like a stadium, which is way ahead of what I was expecting. Surprised you could get so much done during the winter. I am excited for you guys. I still remember counting the days for Pizza Hut Park to be built. It's extremely exciting and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I'm also wondering what your mystery press conference is all about. Lots of exciting stuff happening with the Union... Great.
While taking a look at our 1080p webcam, it looks as though pre-cast concrete is being installed on the Bridge Stand. Maybe, I am just being too hopeful.
Looks that way to me, too. Last week there were concrete risers in the South Stand and the Flower Street end, and it looks like they've carried it around the corner into the Bridge Stand. The structural work is actually getting pretty close now. The big jobs left are: 1) The roof. Four more supports to put up, then steel cantilevers to install on all 20 roof supports, followed by the canopy. 2) Concrete risers on the River End and the Bridge Stand. 3) Exterior curtain walls on the second level; these have been mostly framed in already and just need the wall panels. 4) Grading and putting in substrate layers on the field itself After that it's the detail work, which will take a while but most of which you can do in all weathers. Seats and the scoreboard will probably go in at the last minute, and at this point I assume they won't lay sod down until the spring.
Ooh...that must have just gone up; didn't notice it when I looked earlier this morning. Four supports and nineteen cantilevers to go... Wondered why the started with the second one from the north end rather than the one on the far north? Weight distribution?
This thing is going up faster than I anticipated. I can see them being completed in May, if the weather continues to hold out until the exterior work is done. EDIT: Full disclosure - I'm not a construction guy or an architect, so I have no real idea. I'm just guessing.
Re: Stadium Thread - Webcam Is Union Stadium going to have the fabric type roof like The Home Depot Center or Rio Tinto Stadium?
Man, the boys must have gotten an early start today....2nd roof truss extension installed and it looks like most of the Bridge Side precast is in.
