    Enough With The Speculation Already!

    A Memo To Burn Management:

End the speculation!!! Please advise Burn fans via the media, which players did not have their contracts renewed. Keeping everyone abreast, rather than playing it close to the vest, of what is happening with the team roster is a way to keep people engaged during the off-season. The more engaged fans are, especially if news portends the potential of greater team success in the future, the more tickets your likely to sell.

So come out with it, who did you not renew?!

    Thank you!

I think all contracts are good until Dec 31st. And, it's not usually a practice on any pro team to release info on ongoing contract negotiations. Wait until Jan and after the draft. Have some patience. We'll all know soon enough what kind of team we will have. Let the guys do their job. They wiil tell us when the time is right..

I disagree. I think most sports leagues are open about who they are negotiating with. We don't necessarily need the details or dollar figures, just who the players are. MLS and the Burn would be much better off speaking about these things during the off-season to generate interest in the dead months than keeping it all so secret and close to the vest. It's ridiculous how tight lipped this league is about these things compared to other sports.

And even though the contracts run out Dec 31, isn't the deadline to pick up the option much sooner than that?

    3rd degree?

3rd has more details - but the deadline to pick up the options to continue a current contract has already passed - it was Dec 1.

That is correct. That was when these 4 or 5 players were not picked up. They are not free agents.

Crew people are saying Dunseth is one. No surprise there I think.

FYI the same thing happened to Kamler in NE. And after that great year he had.

    Limbo stick

Remember last season when Burn fans stood around waiting with corks up their ###$# waiting for HSG to improve the team? It never happened. We lost Matt Jordan and had to go out with a kid learning on the job. We lost one of our bright spots to our team early in the year, and again no replacement. We were still waiting on Zarco and Ariel's replacement and it never came. (I guess Nhelko?)

Break out the limbo stick. How low can you go?

This ownership group has no intention of upgrading. They are simply still looking to cut payroll, and maintain the status quo. If the doltdome that supports the team blindly continues to attend games and buy tickets, what motivation do they have to improve anything? I think that the four that they mean are so damned obvious and inconsequential that it is hardly worth mentioning: Dunseth, Glinton, Morrow, and Rhine. Who cares? Of course, anyone with a premium salary is being shopped simply for the purpose of cutting payroll. (5 is Nhelko is we must pay him any extra.)

I think that the move for Jolley and the move for Garlick were about as exciting as it is going to get for us. Maybe we will get some old washed up Euro retread to pad thier pension as an allocation, but the lineup you have is what I greatly believe will start in 2004.

What is left to sell tickets? ROB is the brightest spot on this roster. And, remember, he is a young promising kid, but has yet to even earn a regular starting spot on the worst roster in league history.

But hey, its only been 2 years with these clowns and it is the second year with the "new coach". We should give them the benifit of the doubt. Let's be patient. Let's reserve judgement until say 5 or 10 years. That's when the dust will settle.

Ownership has no intention of upgrading?? How the hell do you know what they are doing this off-season?? You dont have a clue. Go back to the Burn boards and banter with Baya about how much this team sucks. You don't have a clue..

I finally decide to read this thread, and I have
to brandish the Sword of Maturity at you, 247.

VACA? WAIVE AN ASSET WITH TRADE VALUE?
ARE YOU INSANE? I appreciate your enthusiasm,
but throwing out a thread like this, where the
Business Aspects are just as important as form
on the Field,...... jeez, dude. You give away
your age when you try to play at this level.

Re: Re: Re: This is not a WAIVER!

There's merit to your position, and i'm not sure
where i stand yet, but i'll deviladvocate this....

Kreis is one of the few guys in MLS who has
for sure squirelled away a big chunk of change.
Remember his deal in '99, five years, US$1MM??
I have no idea what the structure of the deal
was like, but I know where he lives, he's not
gone overboard with his money. He could
    probably afford to restructure.

Why would GE do this? Because as the
"3rd striker" off the bench, Kreis would
extend his career an extra 2 years, and will
win you at least 2 or 3 games a year in the
dying minutes. Guaranteed. Kreis is in
elite company in league history in the
department of "deadly on set pieces"...
...he shares the highest echelon with no
one other than the Stoichgoon. And he's
the only marketable commodity the Burn have
in Anglodom (thanks Don, thanks Ivan).

If you restructure Deering's deal, is he
going to come off the bench and put 8-10
points on the table every season? Not.

How do I know? Look at the past history of this ownership group. Look at every single roster decision made to date. Look at what each and every personnel decision they have made had in common. That's how I reach my conclusions, I base them on HSG's history with this team. And, while I am open to the possibility that they can change their ways, I am not seeing any evidence. (Don't get snookered with the PR spin that they despense for guppies.) See what they do, and you tell me.

As to what is the "doltdom", it is the segment of the Burn fandom composed of dolts.

What big roster moves have they made since Elliot took over as G.M. and Collin became head coach? Let me see.. They traded T-Bone for a very good player in Jolley. And they got a good keeper in Scott Garlick. Again, I say you really don't know what they are doing. AND you don't know Elliot and Collin and what they are doing right this second. They are trying to make the team better. Your bitching about HSG and their past mistakes would be better discusion on the other board with all the other negative fans. This team will be better in 2004....I guarentee.. Any bets on worst to first??
