Just got home from the game. Barlow's goal was actually and OG from a defender although it was a very tough cross to deal with. Bates' goal was ALL Barlow winning a ball in the corner The third goal was a fantastic pass from Tchani and a sweet finish from Jordan Evans (I think that's his name) who had come into the game 1-2 minutes earlier. He was the first sub at that point (besides himself in the last 26 seconds of the first half). Maryland played like a team that didn't deserve a seed and nothing like a champion. They missed tons of half chances a couple very good chances AND a PK that was quite easy for Restrepo to stop. Credit the UVA defense, they are just rock solid other than a few minutes early in the game and a few minutes at the end. Shutout streak is still going. UVA will be tough to beat next weekend.
I think that Drake #5 - Julien Edwards - got the yellow for something he said rather than the tackle. Edwards threw the ball down. No reaction from the AR and ref. Edwards then went over to the AR and said something. At that point, the AR raised his flag. After the Ref had taken care of Schuler, he came over and talked to the AR. Then, Edwards was awarded the yellow.
Quite possible. I thought this referee's card-o-meter was off tonight. Cameron Brown avoided what I thought was an obvious yellow on an early tackle, then was carded after being tripped up in the box and falling over the Drake player. The two-handed push by Clark on Enzo Martinez was another obvious missed call. Finally, if that yellow was not for the tackle, what a joke. Edwards was dragging him down from behind, then Clark came up and kicked Schuler in the knee. Carolina looked really solid in the MF, though.
Wake and UCLA set to kick off at 7 for the final spot in the College Cup. Carolina will play Akron in one semifinal, while UVa awaits the winner of this game. I haven't found any streams yet. Gametracker here.

From the story... Restrepo said that Herrick had scored on a penalty kick against him earlier this season. This time around, he had an idea of what Herrick might do.I wonder in which game Virginia shutout out Maryland that this alleged PK conversion by Herrick happened. I looked it up and Maryland didn't play South Florida the two seasons Restrepo played for them so unless it happened in PDL or some youth tournament, I'm not sure when Herrick beat beat Restrepo on a PK.
I wouldn't be surprised if it happened at a club tournament sometime along the way. My guess would be that Restrepo said it in a way that would be clear to any of us, but to a reporter that isn't into all the ins and outs of US Soccer makes no sense and just assumed he meant this year. Especially since that was the first penalty Maryland won all year.
You are probably correct. First PK UVa has allowed this year, too. (Not counting the tiebreaker at the end of the ACC semis.)
Wake wins 2-0 and advances to play UVa in the College Cup. Once again, three ACC teams are represented in the College Cup. Great year by the ACC. In Akron, Wake, Virginia, and UNC, the four best teams in college soccer this season will be represented in the College Cup. If Akron can run the ACC gauntlet that has become the College Cup, they deserve the title.
So Virginia beat Wake in regulation 1-0 this year and last month eliminated them in the ACC Tourney in PKs after 110 scoreless minutes. They also beat them 3-2 in OT in last year's ACC Tourney. (Wake won last year's regular season game 2-0 in C-ville.) Two ways to look at that. Either, Virginia clearly has Wake's number, which bodes well for the Cavs, or Wake is too good a team to keep losing to the same team and that bodes well for the Deacs. Obviously, we'll find out which it is next Friday.
Have you seen Wake's all time record vs UVa? UVa having Wake's number goes way beyond a couple of seasons.
Correct, although Wake has beaten them the last two - three seasons at least once a year. If that continues, Wake is due this year.
When I talked to the WF folks earlier in the NCAA tournament - they brought up that they'd like to avoid UVA. Hmmmm. I'm really looking forward to this final 4.
UVa has been an elite team a lot longer than Wake, so I'm just asking: Does your observation hold true from the time Wake became a force in soccer?
This is true. Entering this season, Virginia owned the series with Wake Forest 31-6-5. Add the games this year and that's like an 80 percent winning percentage. Here are the six losses: 9/20/81 Wake Forest 2, @Virginia 1 9/22/91 Wake Forest 2, @Virginia 0 9/14/02 @Wake Forest 2, Virginia 1 10/27/06 Wake Forest 2, @Virginia 1 11/9/07 @Wake Forest 3, Virginia 1 11/7/08 Wake Forest 2, @Virginia 0 Of the six losses, the current seniors were around for three of them. So, I don't think Wake fears Virginia or feels hexed against them since several of the Deacs have had success against the Cavs.
