Rumoured US Tour Dates/Venues 2004 Corrected Dates: July 25 Soldier Field, Chicago July 28 Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia July 31 Giants Stadium, New Jersey
Any legitimate sources for this information? I hadn't even seen Philadelphia on the list of rumored cities before.
These are rumours and should be treated accordingly. They are from my contacts in Manchester though, if that helps.
I'm guessing that they will add a fourth venue out west. Of course, I'd love to see them come to Denver, but I would guess that it will be LA or Seattle again.
Hopefully they'll come back in 2005 and swing through Dallas. We should have the new Burn stadium up and running then. I'm sort of surprised - no Home Depot Center date? No reward for Columbus for having a soccer specific stadium and doing so well? And Philly's field isn't large enough for USSF to play games there.
Why does this surprise you? ManU is going over as part of ChampionsWorld's operations, not MLS/SUM's. Why would ChampionsWorld limit itself to 22,000 seats (Columbus) or 27,000 (HDC) when all four ManU games sold many more tickets than either of those numbers? Especially when as a tour promoter, they have no vested interest in any venue. As far as the width of the field at Philly, these games are off-season friendlies, not World Cup games. I would not be surprised to see the US Men's National team play at Lincoln Financial Field, even with its "narrow" width. Remember they played Wales at Spartan last summer, and they played a WCQ at Arrowhead in 2001.
A little selfish of me, but I hope they come to Toronto, as they'll be closeby and there's already a Celtic v. Juventus match planned for late July/early August at SkyDome. A Man U/Bayern Munich match would be a great follow-up, and would give me a chance to boo the hell out of Hargreaves
I will definitely be at this one. I wanted to drive out to Phily last year, but by the time I decided to do it, they'd already sold out.
Reality Bites Great, just great, Chicago gets its first damn game in about 10 years and my kid is in San Diego that day at Surf Cup. I'll send him with Mom and stay home.
Quick trip to the US United wanted to come back to the US this year but didn't want an extended trip, which would've included a west coast date, due to Euro 2004.
I'll be at Philly and depending on who they are playing I could hit up New York (isn't Real the current rumor?)
Where have you read about Celtic-Juve? I knew that Celtic was probably hitting Toronto, but not Juve. I might need to try to take a visit to Toronto if that's the case - any word on dates?
Oh, REAL-ly? Hmm... that would definitely be something to consider. You have to think that Real is just a bit jealous after seeing United's tour last summer. I'm sure they think they can do just as well.
I wish Man U would play in Dallas. At least at the Cotton Bowl or Texas Stadium. But I would hope they would not play the Burn
If they played in Texas, I think it would be most likely they'd go to Reliant Stadium in Houston. It's already hosted a couple of huge soccer events, and according to the website, its MLS-compliant.
It was reported by a number of media outlets here in Toronto that Celtic is coming here for sure and the most likely opponent is Juventus (due to the enormous Italian population here). As for potential dates, there was nothing concrete, other than it would be either the last week of July or the first week in August.
Dates and locations for United's USA Tour 2004 United return to Philadelphia and New York/New Jersey after last summer's successful US Tour, while the team will also play in Chicago. The tour dates are as follows: July 25 - Philadelphia July 28 - Chicago July 31 - New York/New Jersey
Liverpool announced that they too are doing a tour of the east coast of the US next summer. My guess is that they play in Boston and DC with a Liverpool-United game in New York. Assuming that it is ChampionsWorld who is working their tour.
