i thought he should have had a red for that. i like combative players, and its necesary to have that kind of stuff in the locker if the opponent wants to bring you down to that level, like a leeds or arsenal back in the day, but chelsea dont play like that. drogbas reaction was pretty hilarious though, yes, really convincing convulsions.
perhaps but the way i see it there is just as much proof if not more that atrocious reffing is all over the league this season not just our games. its something i will watch for now though.
Well, yes it was a red, and he may still be punished. We'll see. I think that move has to be in the next Street Fighter game though. Not only does he get him in the chest once, he then swings his other boot around and get him in the chest a second time.....all before either of them have hit the floor. Simply awesome.
Evans can't be punished as the ref can't claim that he didn't see the incident as he carded Drogba... but then, the FA could always make something up on a whim. But they would never circumvent their own rules to make an example of United...
It's funny how none of the press or major internet sites seem to be talking about the Evans kick at all, just the Fletcher foul, the fact that the Ferguson rant against refs won't see any action (isn't it about time the FA just told AF that it really doesn't matter what he does as they can't really punish him meaningfully anyway), and the fact Rooney won't get punished for saying '12 men'. I'd have thought it would be at least one of the main talking points. Looks like he'll get away with it, and kicking in the chest will become de rigeur in the Premiership
“The 71st minute at the Bridge,” said Evans. “Motterman has told me that it’s his dream and I have just gone and done it."
But the ref can't claim to have not seen the incident, he carded Drogba. The post match report from the ref would have had him admit that he would have sent off Evans if he saw the incident, but he can't claim that.
the following through with the trailing leg is spot on too. it's quite the motion. i still don't know why they carded Drogba. hehe.
18-3 or 3-0 depending on the competition in question. (Very scouse-like answer I know, but it's Chelsea and it's just too easy)
Since Drogba obviously had no intention on playing the ball on that sequence, I think Evans' move was justifiable as self-defense.
if it had been hartson, or fashanu, or edmundo, then yes, self defence. but when does drogba every intentionally injure oponents?
I'm not condoning the kick to the chest (I have to see it again actually), and I haven't read back, so apologies if this has already been mentioned, but did anyone notice how the crippling pain eminating from Drogba's chest disappeared when he got that yellow card? Again, not condoning the move or discounting the potential pain caused by studs to the chest, but after Barcelona and this, Drogba has to realise that refs are used to seeing him collapse in 'agony' and as a result are less likely to call fouls on him. Ronaldo had the same issue before he left. As for the performance: heartening. I thought we matched, if not outplayed them. Considering the reservations surrounding this squad, I think that's a sizeable positive. The end result was of course very frustrating.
My favorite fake injury was Terry holding his own head after nailing Valencia in the side of the head with an elbow. England's finest, ladies and gentlemen!
