the wave is better than just having people sitting there doing nothing. Do I like it? no, not really. But I would much rather have people up and yelling (though not paying attention) rather than have them sitting their on their hands and having 90 minutes of silence... Yura did nothing to earn a spot last game. If Kreis stays true to his word, which he mostly has this season, then the lineup will be the exact same. The only one I would worry about is Andy. For some reason, I fear we will see Clint starting over him. It doesnt make much sense as you could easily argue Andy has been one of the best players these last 5 games, but its JK... so who knows. I think we need at least a 2 goal lead heading back to CBus. We got fairly lucky against Chivas with our late goal as that made them have to come out and attack more once we went down there. If we got a 2 goal lead against CBus... Findley would likely have a great chance to counter all day in CBus. Tickets... its going to be interesting. Everyone is going to say the time needed to be earlier, but I am sorry, its a playoff game. We are lucky to not have the last game of the night honestly. Seriously though, those complaining about having to take your kids on the halloween thing, just bring them to the game before then go home and send them out. The timing is actually perfect for this. I think the time of the game is perfect personally.
Tijuana Whores eh? There's a terrible Steel Panther song that has a chorus about ... ugly groupies - and the chorus is "TURN OUT THE LIGHTS" in pub chant kind of shout - struck me when I heard it as a great victory chant. Could also be a demoralized "I can't believe we're down to KC" kind of chant too. Of all the crowd antics, I prefer the illegal smoke bombs. Call me pro-risk.
For me the wave is best used as a slap in the face. It says, us fans are so bored by what is going on on the pitch that we are going to entertain ourselves. So its good in instance of a blowout. Other than that, the wave sucks. IMO Yeah, we have been doing it at 30 and 60. I think it was stronger when we only did it once a game. So maybe I'll go back to that. Dadof, "L" is really good, where you sit. Your daughter looked too terrified to cheer though, with the random shouts of "EL!!!"" coming from you.
The Wave should stick to baseball games during pitching changes and other game stoppages IMO. The only time the game stops in soccer is when someone is hurt(or playing hurt) and not the time to do it.
Classless post with mere-partial truth. Makes me laugh to think that if this were there plan of attack they would be punished severely with an onslaught of goals. However, this isn't the general consensus of the Crew fans.
while his tactics could work, they could also back fire greatly. This team has shown that under pressure it plays some very good and aggresive soccer. I personally wouldnt want to be the guy that got under Olave or even Espy's skin because those two are very smart (for the most part) about "getting even". It may work for them if they take this route, but it also could lead to RSL playing with a lot more passion and putting on a clinic (andy, beckerman, javi, will, etc all stepping up their games). Just play the game. If they want to waste their time on this, then so be it. I personally think that RSL could fire back with this on Schelotto. You hit Olave, we smack Shelotto... And Mathis wont be on the pitch until the 60th minute, so good luck getting to him
The whole part about red cards and exposing them during game play isn't what i was emphasizing. Its obviously true what he said. I'm just saying that it would be poor to get on TV or in interviews and verbally antagonize JK. JK would never do that, he's better then that. It would be poor for anyone to do that. Thats all. I think Espy and Olave are cool headed now and wont need to play that way. C-bus doesnt play like that either.
has anyone heard of any promotions for this game yet? discount tickets for costumes? that kind of stuff
15, don't you have a brother / dad that has season tickets? If so, have them hook you up with $10 tickets in the South End - Pretty sure that will be the cheapest available, even with late week promos.
Oh, I know that. i am talking more RSL trying to get people out to this game despite its time/weather. I have my tickets, got them right away. Just curious as to when and what RSLFO is going to do here.
A friend of mine is bringing a group of 56 to the game. It's gonna be a loud group in the upper deck hopefully.
I know. I was being sarcastic with that part. I understand that the supporter's want everyone to join in on chants, stand and yell, etc. However, the reality is not everyone knows the chants, and not everyone is willing to join in. The wave, however, is an easy way to liven things up and get people moving. Do the wave to get the blood moving, and then get them going on a simple chant. People were trained this way from Jr. High up. Easy chants, get the people moving. Why change that now?
All of the advertising I have heard or seen so far does not mention that tickets are on sale. It merely states when and where the game is. Has anyone else seen anything around town? I understand that the general consensus was that RSL was out of the playoffs, but why wouldn't the FO have an advertising/marketing plan ready to roll out the day after the last game just in case they got in?
I saw that Seattle was doing that scarf seattle thing again. Too bad our marketing dept cant come up with something like that.
It's a valid point, and that's why I like the "R-S-L" chant--that always sounds great when it goes off right. But I'd rather see things like that than the wave. I dislike it for the same reason that I don't like cheerleaders; soccer is supposed to be a different kind of atmosphere. What I think would be best is if the FO could put some of the chants on the big screen before and during the game, or pass out lyrics at the entrance--nothing offensive, obviously, but things like "R-S-L" or "Salt Lake till I die" would be easy enough (this is something I plan to bring up at the season ticket holders' meeting). I'm not saying that everyone has to be a hardcore supporter like those of us in the south end, but there ought to be a couple of songs and a couple of chants that we can get everyone in the stadium to do, and that would give it a different feel than a Jazz or Bees game, even to casual fans.
I think Seattle had a little more time to plan something like that. I don't think that they could have ordered the scarves and gotten them in time for the game on one week of notice. Although your point is valid. Some creative kind of marketing would be nice.
Given they had a week advance notice that they were in the playoffs, could they have done scarves? Seattle has known it was in the playoffs for weeks.
I don't know how "creative" it needs to be, but the popup ad on the DesNews (if you click on "Real" on the Sports link) seems to be a pretty good way of getting the word out--takes you right to the "buy tickets" area of riotintostadium.com. Don't know if there are other media utilizing the same link, but I've heard some radio chatter about it, too. So it is out there.
Very true. While many fans rave about his goal (made possible only because Rapids were playing way forward), the play that stands out to me is the one where he's trying to beat 3 defenders instead of passing to morales who was all alone at the corner of the box. He was practically on his knees begging for the ball. The look of disgust on his face after the ball was (naturally) taken from Yura told a great story.
