Kinda off topic... but I don't understand how Zanzibar has a 'national team'. Isn't that just a city in Tanzania? Wouldn't this be the equivalent of London having a national team or something? Or am I way off on this?

Zanzibar used to be a country, it was merged with Tanganyika to create Tanzania.

It's not connected to the mainland, it's a collection of islands.

well what can i say well i know that i can say is that i don't see in the near future a greenland national team on sight first since uefa and fifa change the rules about only countries that are independent and recognize for united nations can be a members of boths organization i see dificcult for greenland to make it to either of those organizations of course yo will say that the 4 home nations play are member of uefa and fifa is they are not independent from each other politically talking cause they form the UK and you say what about faroe island i have to remind you that faroe islands join uefa and fifayears before those two organization change the rules and you can't not use the new rules retroactive against the four home nations and faroe islands and other nations and dependencies that are members of fifa and their continental associations because they join a lot of years before uefa/fifa change the rules to only countries only recognized by united nations can be part of fifa and uefa, seen i don't see that greenland gain independence fron denmark because the politicians all of then are pro-danish want to keep ties with denmark even they now talk about getting greenland independent if not believe just look what happen to faroe island they want to be independent but denmark told them that they cut economic ties they forgot about the referendum for independence and now faroese politics are in stalmate 50% want independence and 50% want to remain in the danish kingdom and that is gona happen the same with greenland the difference is faroe island join fifa/uefa before rules change so i think greenland have to cheer for denmark and try to get some of their plasyer into the danish team as for kosovo they never gonna be part od fifaor uefa even they unilaterally declared independence and are recognize as independent country for more than 50 countries as long as russia hold a permanent sit in the united nations they never be part os that organization cause russians will veto them so they have to content with cheering for albania and try to get some of their best players into the albanian national team

Actually the reason is when the Faroes joined in 94 i think Greenland also tried their luck, seeing this Gibraltar tried also and the Spanish bastards decided to blackmail fifa and threaten to pull out (which would be stupid for spain) so FIFA changed the rules meaning u had to be a state recongnised by the UN. but they did not make it retrospective the courrupt bastards so they could keep all the other nations the greasy dirty bastards.. sorry but it really annoys me how they always say "dont bring politics into sport" then pull shit like that.

Hey! who are you calling bastards! So then, which should be the requirements to play in FIFA? Shall Castilla in Spain have also a national team? Or Bavaria in Germany? Or Quebec a team apart from Canada?

Obviously not as they dont have their own FA's gibraltar on the other hand administers itself as a crown dependency and has its own FA.

dont get butthurt because your a nation of scumbags who get petty over sport. why the fuk do u even want Gibraltar? give the canary islands to Morocco then you can ask for Gibraltar back.

Who is bringing politics now... I will not enter a debate with someone that uses this language. Learn to behave yourself and then criticize others.

I can't believe someone wrote 'Ireland were mirrows 20 years ago'. I don't think so, not even close.

I also see the Faroe Islands mentioned alot in this thread.
It would be a while before Greenland could compete with the likes of the Faroe Islands. The Faroes have had a long history of Football and it's the most popular thing after eating and sleeping in their country.
Some of their clubs were founded over 100 years ago. They have a very good League considering the size of the country. The national team is much stronger than Andorra and San Marino. Leichtenstein have never been able to beat them, winning every match but one if my memory is correct. When they met Luxembourg in the qualifiers, they beat them both times. Recently they beat Iceland in a friendly match 2-1 and beat Lithuania in the W.C Qualifiers, also a 1-1 draw with Austria.
Infact they beat Austria in thier first ever official match.

If Greenland can get the funding for a national team and be able to build a stadium that meets FIFA requirements. Then it's likely they could be granted membership by UEFA and FIFA.
But the question is, is the money there.

Most likley new national teams in UEFA are Kosovo and Greenland imo. Possibly even Monaco.
Others that have been mentioned are Gibraltar and Catalonia, that's very unlikely to happen though in the near future. Gibraltar have already been turned down by FIFA. Vatican City will never be included as it only has a population of around 1000.

The Faroes aren't a country. And people are talking about Gibraltar?

Abkhazia has its own soccer league, and the Abkhaz team that once played against Georgia teams called "Dinamo Sukhumi" has moved to Tbilisi and no longer plays in Abkhazia.

It's like the Turkish Cyprus situation. Anorthosis Famagusta no longer plays in Famagusta but represents the majority's desire to recapture the breakaway territory.

Technically, you're wrong. They're a constituent country within a constitutional monarchy. This is the same as England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland all being countries within the constitutional monarchy that is the United Kingdom.

Yep, also watched the game in the stadium when it was played back in 2001. In a world full of Champions League and World Cup, this is a nice reality check on what football is like for a lot of people around the world.

The Tibet jersey was also something of a cult phenomenon for a couple of years after the event.

Abkhazia is a section of Georgia that is under Russian occupation and it isn't recognized by nearly every country on Earth. That's why FIFA would never recognize them.

OK, I thought Greenland was to host the FIFI Wild Cup in 2010, yet I can not find any information on it. Does anyone know anything about it.
