Baggio needs to be pulled. He's just not ready, in MY opinion to be on the field playing in the MLS. Today has concreted my opinion on that. Bring in Lowry.
I was referring to the past few minutes prior to his being taken off, when he was very hesitant to pull the trigger on his last few chances. Can't comment much on the first half as I pretty much slept through it. Edit...as did both teams for the most part.
Yeah, I was hoping he would be our own homegrown version of blanco. But I'm starting to think a 38 year old blanco will be better MLS player than Baggio will ever be. But he's more Austin Washington than Blanco, at this rate.
Ok, but I truly can think of no other reason he keeps getting pulled about the same time every game. I've yet to see him go a full 90 and I can't think of the last game I haven't seen the whole game. I've also been to every home game as a season ticket holder. If it's not him being un-match fit, then what would possess a coach to pull a player, and one of the better on the team every game around the same time?
So what your saying is the pilots didn't rate well and should be canned after 6 episodes (give/take) and the old tired shows should also be canned because they are just that old & tired. So what? FIRE everyone and start over? maybe that's a whole other thread . . .
Actually he has gone almost 90 a couple of times, I think. But as to your second question, that is the $64,000 question for me. Just like Calen Carr coming in for Rolfe now in the 90th minute--explain that one to me.
Carr for Rolfe in the 90th minute? Good god this is crap. And now Woolard for Nyarko in the 92nd minute.
I'm going by what I've seen this season, as well as what I saw while he was a college player at UIC. I've never understood the attraction, and the games he's actually played this year hasn't changed my mind. SORRY.
Carr for Rolfe? Really? He hasn't played in months. Lowry or Mapp for Husidic. A player like Rolfe can strike any second. Why take him off?
Calen is my least favorite player there's ever been on the Fire. So I'm not the best one to give an opinion about him as a player. I'd rather have it go down to 10 rather then have to watch him play. That should be a good indication of how much I value him.
For me Lowry has been the most pleasant surprise and the fact he wasn't on the field today is very disappointing.
You could be right about Pappa going 90 a few times, as I don't pay that close attention. I just have noticed in very close games he's always yanked about the same time, when I think he's been playing decently and there are other players that should leave before him.
My issue isn't with Calen--we all know where he stands on the pecking order and it should be well below Lowry. My issue is with the coaching decisions.
Possession and dribbling skills are the biggest things that American players have to work hard on to match the rest of the world. The national team, for the most part has such players, but there's a big falloff. It isn't an MLS problem it's a college/development issue.
Frustrating. Thought that Pappa and Rolfe and Nyarko switching (that was happening, I think) was a good idea to try. The players were surprisingly composed on the ball, for the most part. Banner wasn't bad at all, but Joseph vs. Pause made me a little nervous. Someone ask Rolfe if he dove.
That's pretty sucky that we lose two points on a truly horrible call by the referee. MLS officials on average are so poor and it really detracts from the game.
Postgame he stated that Reis caught him with his elbow. That's what honks me off the most...if Gonzalez knew the players better he would know that Chris would never dive, much preferring the thrill of banging it into an empty net after beating Reis like a rented mule.
Reis just stated "He (Rolfe) went down pretty easy. I didn't have much contact with him." And then said it was nice to "get a call". If he did not get "much contact," then he did get some contact and clearly Rolfe did not run into Reis, so it must be a penalty. Oh, well, two more points pissed away.
The really dumb thing is watching the way Rolfe sprawled on the turf and thinking that he dove that hard. It was an idiotic call and Gonzalez just blew it.
Reis is full of crap--he went over and helped Rolfe up which he typically never does. He knew he got away with one.
