TDS is doing articles about players abroad and she is the latest. I don't think we've had a women YA, at least not since I've been on here.

She played college ball at Charleston and signed a 1 year deal with Fortuna. They are gearing up for the Women's CL. She played her first game at LB and provided an assist.

Nice find, thanks. I'll be re-posting in the women's forum. There are other female YAs but there aren't that many posts about them and even fewer here. With WPS, I think fewer will go but, like WNBA players, there are a number that will play here and abroad.

It might be nice to have a Women YA thread in here to collect such info and get some cross-pollination btwn the fans of YAs, if folks are interested.

A "Womens YA" thread would be great. Their Yanks and playing abroad.

Re: Megan Manthey at Fortuna Hjørring

Since some folks seemed interested, here is a horribly incomplete list of current female YAs--all of these are WPS players. Most of my info was pieced together from posts by kind folks in the Women's forums--they have the info, I merely collect it.

Ali Krieger Frankfurt (Germany) She has broken her foot (again) in what I think was their first game of the season.
Becky Sauerbrunn, central defender, Røa (Norway). Apparently, she played left back and scored on Saturday.
Jenny Nobis, forward, Piteå (Sweden). She's palyed with them before. She appears to have scored on Sunday.
Johanna Lohman & Rebecca Moros (unlcear whether this is simply training or a loan) NTV Beleza Japan. They have a blog.

Supposedly, a batch of players (such as Kendal Fletcher) are going to play in Australia. However, I didn't see any of them listed on Aussie W-league rosters. The season starts next weekend so maybe some will be late season additions.

Later in the week when I have more time, I'll try my hand at a (bad) Dave Marino-Nachison impression and see what else I might be able to dig up about other female YAs.

    Re: Female YAs

Becky Sauerbrunn & her Røa teammates won their midweek UEFA champions league match vs Everton 3-0. She played the entire match in defense. They also won their league game this weekend.

Jenny Nobis had an assist (I think) but her Piteå team lost 1-2.

Here are some YAs in Australia:

    Julianne Sitch, Melbourne Victory.
Jillian LOYDEN, Kendall FLETCHER, and Lydia VANDENBERGH: Central Coast Mariners.
    Alex SINGER, Perth Glory.

All except Vandenbergh went 90 for their teams. Vandenbergh started but was subbed out in the 72'.

Many thanks to Cville KC in the women's forums for his post about the players at Central Coast Mariners.

eta: I forgot to add that Megan Manthey was an unused substitute in Fortuna Hjørring's midweek UEFA champions league win.

Re: Megan Manthey at Fortuna Hjørring

I've just dug up two more female YAs in Germany. Both play for FC Saarbrücken. Neither was on a WPS roster.

Midfielder (I think), Meredith Teague who I think is this Meredith Teague, former Seattle Pacific player (and Div II player of the year).

Defender, Kelli Cronkrite who played at Portland from 2004-2008 (I think). I'll post more info on these two when I find it.

Would a kind moderator please change the thread title to "Female YAs" or something similar since the thread has expanded to include other female YAs? Thanks in advance.

eta: I neglected to mention that Saarbrücken is newly promoted from the 2 Frauen-Bundesliga. They are currently bottom of the table this season. Both Yanks have gotten playing time in all three games so far.

It seems Saarbrücken also has a third American, Juliane Edwards. I can't seem to find where she played college ball, though.

    Re: Female YAs

    Hi folks,

Per user request I've changed the name of the thread to reflect the more general content. I did leave Megan Manthey's name up there so it's easier to recognize for people who visited it under its old name.

My suggestion would be that you should also feel free to start player-specific threads if you think their career developments will draw sufficient interest to support it. However, why don't we start by introducing new players via this thread?

    Does that work for people?

More female YA news from this past weekend :D

The three Americans at FC Saarbrücken all played full 90s as their team got their first FrauenBundesliga points in a 2-2 draw vs Wolfsburg. The point lifts FC Saarbrücken off the bottom of the table. Cronkrite will miss the mid-week cup game as she's going to her brother's wedding.

If you are interested in seeing the three in action, here are highlights of their Week 3 loss to SC 07 Bad Neuenahr. FC Saarbrücken is in blue. The players in the stands the video keeps showing are injured Saarbrücken players (they've got several starters out).

Jenny Nobis scored for Piteå but her team lost.

Sauerbrunn and Røa won their weekend game 3-0 and (I think) are still top of the Toppserien.

Manthey started Fortuna Hjørring 0-0 tie with Skovbaaken on Saturday. She was substituted in the 52'.

All three Americans playing for the Central Coast Mariners played the entire game (a 2-0 win over Adelaide United). I think Vandenbergh got an assist.

Alex Singer went 90 for Perth Glory in their win.

Sitch also played 90 min but her team (Melbourne Victory) lost.
