Let's not forget that Angel will be playing on grass next year (home and most away games). Getting off of that concrete they were playing on could give him another couple productive years. So, let's not even think of letting him go anywhere.
That's my thought process. Plus, I have a feeling RB is going to do some big things this off-season, and the team is going to be dramatically better. Angel can succeed without much around him, but he flourishes when surrounded by talent. Next year's going to be a big year for him.
I like Vipers list except for Sinisa Ubiparipovic and Danleigh Borman, those two are very average players, I think they can easily be replaced if taken. I would replace them with Danny Cepero and Ernst Obster. Cepero is an avg keeper but he has plenty to learn and is a capable backup, plus he probably makes very little. Obster is a decent player, I want to see how he does with a decent team around him.
Aren't some of these players' contracts up at the end of the season? If that were the case, we would not need to include them on our protected list, right? With Garcia, for example, my understanding is that we are just having a look at him with no obligation beyond this season. May be a similar situation with Krupnik, though I am not certain.
What, are we trying to see how his fat ass fills the bench? That's the only look we've gotten so far...
Garcia should fire his agent for Krupnik's... they are both sitting around except one is getting about 4x more than the other Club Last Name First Name Pos Base Salary Compensation NY Garcia Walter Ariel D $ 36,000.00 $ 36,000.00 NY Krupnik Leonid D $ 144,000.00 $ 144,000.00
I'm having a hard time coming up with even 11 players. The only player we can't afford to loose is Angel. All the others are replaceable at least. It goes without saying that half the team should be given the boot. I mean, there are certainly players that do ok, but loosing them might be an opportunity for an upgrade. Celades is a decent player, one I'm inclined to protect, and may be valuable on a decent team. But if we lost him we might upgrade. Of course, we may not and end up with more crap.
I don't think philly needs to take a player from each team, so I'm guessing they wont touch a player from this mess...
Remember Garcia came here on a ten game LOAN or TRIAL so 36 000 for doing nothing ani´t half bad when he goes back to Argentina at years end…
That's the point of this thread: First: Make a list of the players that no matter what, they have to go, period.... Scnd: Taking in consideration that we can't dismiss all the roster at once, fill the eleven players to protect (Very difficult task)...This list is just because... Third: Make a list of who you really want to stay...Much difficult task than the protected list, but maked any way....
Stammler? I know everyone likes him because he works hard but seriously... he has been awful for most of this season.
he's been better since Richie gave him the straight destroyer role, in the right position he's pretty good.
The thing about Stammler that these coaches like is that he's versatile. He can play multiple positions. Now, the question is: when you play multiple positions but are sub-par playing all of them, are you of any value? I guess so, as he's managed to stick with this team. Truth is, we have multiple players like Stammler. They may not be as versatile, but they are certainly sub-par in whatever position they play. Can we hope to upgrade them all with better players next year? Do we dare even try? The results might be even worse than this year (if we have a totally different team on the field next year). Off the top of my head: Stammler, Golthwaite, Boyens, Sinisa, Krupnik. I might even have to throw Richards and Kandji on that list. It might be just a bit too early to tell with Mbuta, Hall, Zimmerman and Borman, but they better produce next year. Man That's just about the whole friggin team!
I think in this regard Stammler has been mis-managed. He hasn't had a real CM partner, one to take care of the offensive/creative side of things and has been asked to do way too much. He's not a wing player or a CB or a two-way CM.
Protect: Kevin Goldthwaite Juan Pablo Angel Macoumba Kandji Dane Richards Mike Petke Nick Zimmerman Bouna Coundoul Danny Cepero Carlos Johnson Albert Celades Ernst Obster Expose: Sinisa Ubiparipovic Carlos Mendes Seth Stammler Jorge Rojas John Wolyniec Leo Krupnik Walter Garcia Matthew Mbuta Danleigh Borman Andrew Boyens Luke Sassano Exempt: Jeremy Hall (correct?) Giorgi Chirgadze
That looks about right to me. I do think we may want to keep Borman. For what he's being paid, he's a bargain, and one of our better crossers of the ball (though that is not saying much). So replace Cepero with Borman and there you have it.
I don't think Johnson deserve to be protected, well I don't think the Red Bulls are thinking in bring him back in 2010, I will better use Hall instead and Petke no body will look for his services out side of Red Bulls, so, instead of this two, protect Borman and Luke Sassano better....
