Do something that has history there. Why continually reinvent the wheel? There was a name, in fact there were a few. Use one of those and be done with it. These two are not bad names. End of story.

The MISL Force's mascot in the mid 80's was none other than some Darth Vadar look alike.

Actually, now that I think about it, I don't know if he was the official mascot,or just some nut fan that dressed up like Darth Vadar for every game.

I think you might be thinking of Boston. The park project was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted.

I think you like Ian Hunter and Band, he sing
    "Cleveland rocks" in the 80's.

    Only a joke

    Names for Cleveland MLS

We can all pretty much expect one or both of the following to happen:

    1. The MLS/club marketing gurus will opt for something trendy if not entirely flashy to soccer diehards

    2. If Nike gets involved (just ask Peter Wilt), the name could get really silly

That said, two very possible nicknames:

CLEVELAND COMMANDO (to the originator of Commandos, I say, "well done" but let's remember that MLS favors the singular, except in SJ -- we don't want to foreshadow THE BIG ONE!)

CLEVELAND CALYPSO (the Chicago Fire was THIS CLOSE to being named the Chicago Rhythm, but alas, even Nike can't get EVERYTHING they want!)

With the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame, I would not be surprised to hear the team named Clevend Rhythm.

    ...........

I've got a great idea! How about --Cleveland Crew--!

They can have great promos like...Family Haircut Night, and Drew Carey Look-Alike Contests...

Yeah, and their mascot could be a giant sockpuppet!
And they can call him 'Socky the Soccer Sock'...!!!

Wow, I wonder why nobody ever thought of that one yet...You better jump on it, before a professional sports team steals it first......

    Let's revisit CALYPSO

I was driving behind a truck today. It apparently is used to transport llamas. And the company is called CALYPSO.

So here is the revised idea:
    Team Name: CLEVELAND CALYPSO
Team Logo: contains a dancing llama with a soccer ball
Team Colors: Tan and Navy Blue
Team Captain (tricky, yet somehow mandatory): Carlos LLAMOSA

    Now THAT is marketable!

I could kinda see the name Cleveland Hounds, kinda catchy, but....I am a red blooded american but I do kinda prefer Euro Names...Though I am a Revolution Fan I think DC United is one of the classiest names in the league....Cleveland SC 05....I'm rambling but its ok, I'm drunk....damn christmas parties....

    Cheers,

Well I just had a thought. Maybe what we need is another element like the Chicago Fire, we could have the Cleveland Water, or Wind , or Earth.

But really what about Dog names if not bulldogs there's a slew of others. Greyhounds, blood hounds, Mastifs, Great Danes, and so on.

In the end whatever the name eventually it will become normal to say it, just like the Steelers, the Packers, the Knickerbockers, and so on and so on.

As long as they don't name them the Ohioans.

I'm still not sure what you call people from Ohio.

I know these names are taken by other past & present professional teams, but they might fit:

    BLIZZARD
    LAKERS
    FURY

    Or, get revenge on Baltimore:

    RAVENS

If you're going to steal an existing nickname, ROCKERS does have a nice ring to it.
