Any info on who might be showing the game? I didn't even know closed circuit tv still existed! Where's Mun2 when you need it?!?!
ps i know this is being discussed in another thread, but thought it would be helpful for any folks who don't want to wade into 11 pages of BS academia.
Here is the link to the list of bars that are confirmed to be showing the game in English http://copatvonline.com/ Fado Irish Pub in Austin is the only Texas location so far. This may be the list of bars showing the game in Spanish http://www.circuitocerrado.tv/locales.html There are about 20 locations in Houston listed: RUMBA CLUB CHILO SPORT BAR EMILIANO SPORT BAR EMILIANOS SPORT BAR EL CENTENARIO SPORT BAR GOL SPORT BAR SOL BILLARES Y DEPORTES AMNESIA BUHOS NC LOS RANCHOS RECUERDOS PINO BAR TOPAZ NITE CLUB EL CATRACHITO RESTAURANT FIESTA MICHOACAN EL CORRAL CERVECERO KAZZABE NIGHT CLUB COSMOS TAQUERIA ARANDA (SPRING TX) ILUSION SPORT BAR (SPRING BRANCH TX)
Sol Billares y Deportes is a fairly new place near Pico's on Bellaire, which isn't too bad an area (kind of the Bellaire/Sharpstown dividing line). I may go there if I can get a group together and nobody steps up to show the game in English.
As I said earlier, I'm ready with my "Don't Tread on Me" t-shirt and US flag and sure I will be warmly welcomed to any of the fine, safe establishments showing the game in Spanish. I'm fairly certain that the company that owns the TV rights and is promoting this is somehow connected with the promoters of Free Kick Masters
In twitterland, they're saying Richmond Arms is hosting the USA vs Honduras game. $20 cover. Cannot confirm it on their website yet though.
Rumor in another thread (from a Columbus Crew fan) was that the promoter was dropping the fee for bars considerably and that cover charges were not going to be required - I kind of doubt that but I would not be surprised if they start offering the product around to more bars at a cheaper rate. This feels a bit like 1986 and having to go watch Wrestlemania 2 via CCTV at a local high school (while I was in middle school - PPV at home was not that widespread) only to have the satellite go out and a near riot ensue until the feed came back on.
This game is being done via big dish also. If you don't have a C-Band satellite dish, the promoter has to send you out special "descrambling" equipment. I wouldn't expect many bars to be able to show it last minute even if they do lower the price.. the bar most likely won't have the correct equipment. They called me yesterday about sending out the equipment, but needed our credit card info first for the $1500 charge. Said if we didn't give it to him yesterday, we wouldn't get the decoder box in time. I told him we weren't going to be able to do it at that price and he was very abrupt and quick to get off the phone with me. No mention of lowering any price. I really don't like dealing with the company that has the rights to this game. We've dealt with them in the past with Affliction fights and they don't seem very professional. Normally, PPVs are adjusted for the capacity of seating in your bar. A place that can only seat 75 should not have to pay the same amount of a place that can seat 500. Not the case with this game. In the end, for us to be able to pay that amount, we need to be able to seat the entire bar with soccer fans. I have no doubt we could do that.. but unfortunately it is on a day where we are already going to be full of college football fans. We are the official Houston bar for Michigan alumni group and they will have the entire upstairs full for their 7pm game. So, that's that. Just wanted to give y'all a glimpse from the other side. Wish we were able to show it!
I talked to the staff last night, they do plan to have it, and there will be a cover ($20 is customary for them when they have such PPV type games). I can also confirm that they are paying something in the realm of what the Mez was quoted. I would suggest calling them a day before to verify that everything is confirmed there.
i too have sourced richmond arms and received confirmation. hopefully, in the next few days, more bars will pick it up. i hope some one, some where, is getting fired for this collosal f^ck up!
I'd put some blame on the USSF for not securing some sort of arrangement with the Honduran federation on this BEFORE we sold them them the rights to the qualifier in Chicago. Beyond that, I blame the doofuses that run MediaPro or whatever it is for why we don't have many English-speaking bars offering this game. They bet that they could extort a high price out of ESPN or even FSC and they bet wrong and are now scrambling around to get distribution for this game. I hope they take a bath on this.
DYNAMO FO UP Potentially we have three of ours playing in this game - Howz about joining with Lucky's to get this?
I am willing to pay $20 cover charge !!.. Or can we find out which Dynamo fan's home that still have those big giant C-band satellite dish
The Stag's Head is not showing the game. I think Glenn's blog said they might, but I have it on good authority they decided against it. So Richmond Arms it is, I suppose.
I was driving down Richmond today by Fountainview and saw a place called "The British Pub" that had "Saturday: US vs. Honduras". Not sure if that's the same place you guys were talking about. Just looked it up, it is the same place you guys were talking about...whoops
The American Outlaws Houston Chapter is directing everyone there to watch the game. It is the only place known so far broadcasting the game in English.
Richmond Arms is listed on the CopaTV/MediaPro site as showing the game. Only one in Houston. Allegedly today was the last day to sign up for the game to get the special decoder box in time (provided that the decoder ring found in my Lucky Charms doesn't work) so there may not be many more places in Houston to watch in English.
At least a place has it, no places in NH or Boston. I will need to drive over 2 hours to Foxboro for a game that starts at 10pm. That is a tough call. I guess I could fly solo, catch the 7pm Crew vs Rev game, go to watch the USA game and then stay at the world famous "America's Best Value Inn". I know some of you are familiar.
