I don't think there is such thing as a "great American." only people's ideas of it.
it does remind me of a George Carlin rant about people that tell you to "have a great day" now all of a sudden you have this pressure and obligation to have a great day. he was saying people should lower their expectations and go with something like try to have a half way decent day.

I've only read through the first seven pages, but I am shocked to see (or not see) that there was zero mention of Oprah's failure. To me that's the only great thing that's come of this selection.

Obama probably shouldn't have went as he has more problems then the Titanic did. Still though, it's another plug for the US in saying "Hey! Hey guys, look we recognize the international community! Now Denmark, how do you guys structure your health care system again?"

Not really. It is the same basic thought. Besides, if organized labor is the backbone of America, America's back is broken.

There were some that yelled that and they should be ostracized the same way people that do the GTFO chant at Crew games should be. There will always be a vocal minority and that should be dealt with accordingly. To paint anyone that doesn't fawn over Obama with the same brush as the people that go to rallies for Palin is what's disingenuous.

If I remember correctly, McCain was pretty harsh in his condemnation of those that yelled negative things about Obama at his rallies.

No one is doing that on bigsoccer. There are plenty of principled reasons to object to Obama's policies. YOu won't find anyone who's taken seriously in this forum who believes otherwise. However, because no one in the GOP is denouncing birthers and TEA-partiers with obviously racist signs (not TEA-partiers -- just the ones who show up with obviously racist signs), it is beginning to appear to a lot of people that the GOP's only principle is to win the next election.

It took him awhile to get around to it. It almost appeared as if he was waiting for polling to decide what to do.

There are more people doing exactly that on bigsoccer than you realize, it seems. I have defended various positions that do not lean to the left and have been taken to the woodshed for it on many an occasion. No matter that I am all over the board when it comes to my voting habits and have even worked on a campaign for a way left candidate. If you don't go with the flow in here you get trampled.

He must have learned that from Clinton.

Sorry, but everyone on BigSoccer that refers to opponents as "teabaggers" is doing exactly that.

George Will's take on the Obamas' mission to win the games for Chicago

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dy.../10/05/AR2009100502703.html?hpid=opinionsbox1

Both Obamas gave heartfelt speeches about ... themselves. Although the working of the committee's mind is murky, it could reasonably have rejected Chicago's bid for the 2016 games on aesthetic grounds -- unless narcissism has suddenly become an Olympic sport.

In the 41 sentences of her remarks, Michelle Obama used some form of the personal pronouns "I" or "me" 44 times. Her husband was, comparatively, a shrinking violet, using those pronouns only 26 times in 48 sentences. Still, 70 times in 89 sentences was sufficient to convey the message that somehow their fascinating selves were what made, or should have made, Chicago's case compelling.

And if anyone knows anything about pompous, self-absorbed windbags, George Will is the go-to guy for that.

Umm, apparently you didn't hear about the majority of Chicagoans that didn't want the games there. Do they still have "no shame "if they voted for Obama but didn't want the Summer Olympiad in their backyard?

Keep reporting that big lesbian mule.

That's because this majority didn't exist. The city was evenly split on the games, and neither side ever broke the 50% level. The last poll I saw was 47% in favor, 45% against.

Ok, I'll rephrase, does that make those that supported Obama and voted against the Olympics as shameless?

Nice that Maddow's sexuality factors into how you view her. Says a lot about you.

I figured that if people kept pulling the race card when you comment on Obama why not do it on her sexuality.

And you have no sense of humor.

Not true. I think nearly all of your posts are hilarious....perhaps not in the manner you intended but hilarious nonetheless.

Plenty of people in Chicago felt relief, even happiness, over the city's failure to get the games, but none of them were dicks about it.

If anything, locals see this as a repudiation of Daley and not Obama. The right-wing national press doesn't understand this, but the right-wing national press doesn't understand much of anything in the best of circumstances.

That is a very roundabout way of not answering the question.

short answer: no. one has nothing to do with the other. as pointed out, the opposition from within Chicago had very little to do with Obama, and everything to do with Daley/

Regardless, I fail to see how this excuses the spectacle of supposedly mainstream Republicans celebrating the loss for no other reason than to stick it to Obama.

Brother and Sister-in-law there were apathetic to the result and quite frankly, moved on with life. But quietly, were hoping to cash in as a host family:eek:

The real question, is the Daley legacy over?
