Did a double-take because the article wasn't explicit. The reality is that the game is in DC and they will be showing it on the big screen at RioT. But, I didn't see that explicitly said.
Okay, so that makes a lot more sense. I started looking around and kept finding ticket sales to RFK, and thought "How crazy would US Soccer be to move a game from DC to SLC this late?" So if they're showing it on the big screen, what do those of us in the north goal get to do? Break our necks, or bring a blanket to sit on the field?
Sit in one of the unoccupied seats on the East or West sides. I don't think the entire stadium will be filled 2 hours before the game.
You guys can't be serious. The station is only like TWO FREAKING BLOCKS AWAY!!! According to Google Maps, it is 0.3 miles!!! Are people really that lazy now that they have to complain about walking that far?
Yeah, beaveman, they are. Last night I was at the grocery store and kept getting annoyed by this woman who was riding around in the "handicapped" grocery cart, followed by her older kid (and another hanger-on) haphazardly pushing their sibling in a stroller. As we drove away, we saw the same family now walking (mom, too) back home. You can walk to and from the store? But not IN the store? Sigh. And back to the Costa Rica/MNT game on the big screen at RioT--what happens if it goes long? Isn't that a possibility, or does goal differential and all that take precedence? If they do go into overtime, and/or PKs, will they start the RSL game, or wait and play until midnight? So many new questions...
There is no extra time/PK's/etc. in WCQ. The only possible exception might be in the head-to-head matches (i.e. CONCACAF #4 vs. CONMEBOL #5), and I believe extra time/PK would only occur if both matches finish with identical scores. Thus, the MNT match is guaranteed not to go past the scheduled 2 hours. On a side note, there are a few scenarios in which this match will be meaningless (i.e. the USMNT has already qualified) based on the previous match day's results (Saturday) 1) US defeats Honduras @ San Pedro Sula --OR-- 2) T&T defeats Costa Rica @ San Jose --OR-- 3) US draws Honduras AND T&T draws Costa Rica More realistically, though, the US will be lucky if they pull one point in that match, and Costa Rica is too tough on their artifical turf, so everything will come down to the 90 minutes in DC! My predictions: Mexico will top the group with 21 points (easy matches home vs. El Salvador and @ T&T) Honduras will finish with 19 points (home vs. USA and @ El Salvador) Costa Rica will have 15 points, and the USA 16 going into that last match. USA wins or draws, and they are guaranteed a spot in South Africa 2010. A Costa Rica upset and USA is stuck playing a South American team in a playoff (possibly Argentina???)
Wow, I did not realize until I saw this post that this match will not be available on TV - not even on ESPN360!
i just got back from the BYU-RSL game. I was really impressed with nelson Gonzalez. i thought he was a midfielder? looked more like a forward in the game. Hes a better forward than Tino Nunez thats for sure. Nelson should of had atleast two more goals than he ended up getting. Espindola had Chad Barretts disease today. He played hard and looked good, but just couldnt get it into the back of the net. I think Nelson will be a starter next year.
Nelson looked great tonight. I couldn't help but think, "where has this kid been?" Interesting as well, with all the subs made at the half I hoped to see ReK see some time, but nope. Fabi had some really great opportunities, but the post kept getting in the way. All in all I thought it was a good outing.
I guess I'll log on to respond. He cut my sentence in half. It was followed with something like "but they proved to be the best SG we have." In truth, I thought Barra was going to be a lackluster and fake FO sponsored supporters group. I was not excited to see Juan helping out at the SG recruitment booth prior to the season start. Barra has proved it is a most passionate and organic supporters group. You guys do it better than anyone else at RioT. I bow down before thee, and said so several times to Mr. Dark despite what made it in print. Espero que crezca Barra Real hasta que llena el estadio entero con fanàticos de igual pasiòn.
I have been preaching this since the kid got here, but everybody only wanted to talk about El Khalifi.
A word of caution about reserve players looking great against lesser opponenets. At various times in pre-season, Nunez & Nimo were both world beaters vs. college sides. More recently, ReK was dominant vs. the Outlaws. Anyone at the game know which RSL player went down & hobbled off about the 80th minute? Cox? I couldn't quite identify the injured player from the video stream. BTW, many thanks to BYU Soccer for originating the basic video stream. It's an easy & essentially free service--but it makes the world of difference for fans wanting to follow & support their club. RSL really needs to do similar during the coming offseason. No excuses these days not to...other than lazyness.
I think that it was Espindola. He had a break away and the BYU defender caught his achilles. It wasn't anything really bad, just looked like he gave him a flat tire. I gree with you that we really shouldnt get all amped up by seeing these guys play really well against a college team, but Nelson was creative on the ball, made a lot of really dynamic runs, checked when he needed to, etc. He really showed that he has the potential to be a game changer. He played a thousand times better than Campos. Just sayin.
then why are we talking about him? remember, as soon as someone starts talking about a player, he gets "exposed"... or so the RSL management would say
