True - the Corona All-Stars, sponsored by Doritos. Flair, explosiveness and individuality (which incidentally is different from "bad attitude") = good. Fat, lazy and knee-ops = no good. One year can make a big difference in a player's career. "Remember A, B and C he did back in the day or have you forgotten already you heathen" doesn't add up to much of a scouting report now does it? Prove me wrong Clint, you cool cool party animal.
What we want is goals out of the forwards, and the goals he scored in friendlies prior to the world cup and his 1 world cup goal dont do anything for us now. For some reason he isnt a starter for the us national team and cant score for the metros. By the way im not an american who doesnt appreciate flair etc. Im a fan who wants production now not in the past. The metros problem was goal scoring so they new scorers. Its that simple.
Thanks for giving us the foreign perspective. We dumb Americans need to be talked down to frequently so we can understand the game as well as you. Let me get it straight now, all those passes Mathis put onto the feet of the opposition, they were Mike Magee's fault, right? And the fact that Magee and Wolyniec actually got in and around the goal the last two months of the season while Clint did not is because Clint was operating on a different level, something an American could not fathom, right? I find it downright amusing that Mike Magee gets regularly ripped around these boards. As a kid who just turned 18, he scores seven goals (no multi-goal games, no pks) to Clint's nine (two multi-goal games, 1-3 on pks) in fewer minutes, and it's Magee who sucks. Right. When Clint was 18 he was probably puking on some frat house floor at South Carolina. Magee's gonna be just fine.
This shouldn't be a shock to anyone. Why would Rangers want him? There are players 100 times better than Mathis in Scotland and England. If he can't score in MLS, he isn't gonna score in either of those two leagues either, let alone get a trial run.
That's not why I want to see him fail. I want to see him fail so he has no other choice but come back to the MetroStars, although I know it's never gonna happen, I can always hope.
Spare us the inferiority complex. We are all just fans here. BTW This American fan happens to agrees with him.
Uh I seem to remember a player by the name of Brian McBride (who has one thenth of Clints talent) doing quite well last year.
But Brian ( unlike Clint ) has worked hard and kept himself in shape . I wouldn't say that McBride has 1/10 the talent of Clint .
yea, he got good service while he was at everton...thats the difference between EPL and MLS, the midfield, the balls put through..
Mathis is the man. You all are just jealous that he can smoke, drink and party, yet still play professional soccer and get more chicks than you.
Don't worry, Clint's agent is busy working on another press release for skysports.com. Here's a snippet... Mathis, the greatest American player of his generation, rejected a lucrative deal from Rangers last week and is now set to weigh other offers. "He's got them stacked up in his hotel room," said David Baldwin. "Really, it's staggering." "Mathis is the greatest player I've ever seen," said Another Player Represented by Clint's Agent. "Pure class. He does things I've never seen before on the pitch. He's fit and ready to dominate Europe."
No, somebody allready tried the joke on THIS thread. Rangers probably had it in their head that Clint would come dirt cheap. Clint doesn't suck. (You people, however, do)
Who would want Clintless right now??? My feeling is he ends up with DC to babysit Adu and show him how to drink and get out of shape in 6 weeks or less.
I would like Clint back too! Why do the Clint-bashers think that their opinion is the only opinion? Clint is paying big time $$$ for his lousy play the last two seasons. Even if he comes back to MLS, it won't be for max. His super-agent's bs notwithstanding, Clint's value in the marketplace is pretty low. With that said, he is best off going back to MLS with the option of going to Europe if his play improves.
It's not a matter of what he did in the past, but rather what his current form is. Rangers took a look at him based on his reputation, a lot of which was founded upon his World Cup play (e.g., that beautiful strike against S Korea). For what ever reason, Rangers decided he was not a right fit for the club. I really don't know whether they were unimpressed with his current form or whether they saw him play and said, "Och aye, we've got loods of straikers laike him, fer fooks saek." In any event, I wish Clint well. I hope he returns to his best form and progresses even further from there. From what I've seen of him over the last year or so, however, is that the man needs to re-focus his energy. Now, I don't know exactly what the dynamics of his relationship with Metro's teammates was like, but Clint has to rise above all that stuff. On not such an exaggerrated level, Clint reminds me of Gazza -- so much potential, so many obstacles he's created for himself unnecessarily....
You sure this guy didn't represent Nick years ago... Sakiewicz, the greatest American goalkeeper of his generation, rejected a lucrative deal from FC Nantes last week and is now set to weigh other offers. "He's got them stacked up in his hotel room," said David Baldwin. "Really, it's staggering." "Nick is the greatest player I've ever seen," said Another Player Represented by Sakiewicz's Agent. "Pure class. He does things I've never seen before on the pitch. He's fit and ready to dominate Europe."
McLeish said Clint was impressive he just was too similar to what Rangers already have. As much as I would have loved to see Clint with the Gers it's probably true, what Ranges need to catch the Tims is an out and out predator who can score upwards of twenty goals not a creative slash goal scorer type like Clint.
