My son (23) did it last month and didn't have any problems! I still have all four, and will die with them in place!
I had all four of mine out at the same time a few years back. Got to eat ice cream and pudding for a week!
Just make sure you read the waiver before they start the anesthesia. I think th one they gave me said they could go through the top of my head to get the teeth out if they needed to. Honestly, I was laid up for the rest of that day, and had some level of discomfort for about a week, but was able to function normally.
I had 3 removed (only had 3, 4th one never appeared). And it was the most painful experience of my life. The pain took about 4 days for me to get over, and then I had canker sores form up all over where the stiches were. To get this somewhat on topic, no i did not ref during this time.
Look at the bright side: <thinking>... <thinking>... <thinking>... <thinking>... <thinking>... <got it> At least your face isn't lopsided as you recover. :-\
I had it done years ago... first 3 came out in 15 minutes... the last one took about 45 minutes because of it's strange growth. They had to crack it and take it out in pieces... after wrenching on my jaw for a while. I was certainly sore when the meds wore off. In a strange twist, I was laughing/crying because I coudn't feel my face and I thought my toungue was hanging out. Kept thinking of the Bill Cosby dentist routine.

Had one removed in the spring. Worked a game that night. Surprisingly, no problem. Expected problems. Guess I really didn't have any wisdom in that tooth anyway.
There are serious risks involved in being placed under anesthesia. I only have 2 wisdom teeth, and I will die with them, however, if I had to have them out, they would be all at once, as I only want to be put down once.
I did all my work.... ten+ years worth - I'm English - we don't generally do the whole dentist thing - Bad teeth, good shoes, etc. ....via sedation dentistry. All old fillings out, new fillings in, root canals, crowns, scraping, polishing and cleaning. And the wisdom teeth. It really is awesome. Take a couple of pills at bedtime and a couple more an hour before appt. They generally schedule the work pretty early so mine was at 6:00am. I remember very little about any of it. Truly the way to go. I'd've probably had to have eight or more trips otherwise. Aside for the upper left wisdom tooth with required a full block & tackle rig, easy stuff as I was totally compliant. Conscious, but didn't give a crap what they did to me. Top Tip though. Make sure you eat up 'til the last moment and again as soon as you can. Or you may just experiencing fainting like I did for the first time. Twice. Obviously only the first time was the, erm, first time, but you get my point. A very odd feeling indeed and I'm pretty lucky I'm intact and unharmed afterwards. Much gratitude and love to my amazing girlfriend for seeing me through all this. Alright, footy. Tournaments canceled again this weekend, but college AR on Sunday which I should be able to handle alright. One HS AR on Monday then a whole week (OhmyGodwhatamigoingtodowithmyself) off. Baz Luhrman = But trust me on the wisdom teeth. Nancy Reagan - Just say no.
Andy, I had 4 impacted and abscessed wisdom teeth removed in 1972. I was given a touch of pentathol and then numbed with lidocaine. The oral surgeon had me hold my fist under my jaw as he hammered and chisled out the bottom one then spent 20 minutes digging out the top one on that side. Decided to only take the two out. I have never been in such excruciating pain. Went through a weeks worth of pain meds in 3 days and went down to the drugstore and refused to leave until the pharmacist got the surgeon to prescribe more. Then I had to face going through all this again 3 weeks later on the other side. Nowadays they use a general anesthetic or at least something good like Versed and morphine and some gas. Get all 4 done at one time and demand decent pain killers. The past month I have had to get dead bone taken off both lower jaws. The oral surgeon here cut into my gum and ground the dead bone until he got bleeding bone. Gave me 10mg percocets but I went back to work without them. The lidocaine wore off at 5 and I still had 3 hours ago. Pain was incredible. I only bring this up to warn all of you, that jaw surgery can be incredibly painful and prepare for it and demand adequate pain relief
Like dadof6 said you could take a local anesthetic. I had two removed and one was impacted. He had to cut the gum to get it out. Felt only pressure and discomfort for that tooth, it was in the lower jaw. The upper one which was not impacted resulted in a sharp pain right through my brain along with a flash of light.
