This is just my opinion and I dont include small towns and smaller towns in the SW where they have rugby and no soccer.

    1. Paris. Obvious choice. Can only support 1 professional team. 'Nuff said.

    2. Toulouse. 4th largest French city, have a nice stadium and a good team and are currently dead last behind Monaco in terms of average attendance per stadium capacity at under 50%.

    3. Strasbourg. 9th largest metropolitan area in France. Even when they had stars Niang and Pagis they still were hovering around 50% average capacity and now they are just totally irrelevent.

    4. Toulon. A population of 564,823, the tenth largest metropolitan area in France can not currently support professional football.

    5. Montpellier. Metropolitan area of over 600,000 with a football team that usually averages around 50% capacity in L1.

I realize 4 of the 5 have professional rugby teams but the metropolitian areas are so big that they should be able to support soccer better than they do.

Haha pretty good. Paris thing is astounding. Let me reiterate a point I brought before, the Ile de France region has a more people in it than Portugal. Yet they can only support 1 club. I was watching the highlight from the Toulouse game, and I thought it was ashamed how empty their seats were, though the weather was bad in the south this weekend, I heard.

Montpellier, I was studying there recently and I'll say that to get to the stadium it's a pain. one bus route and one tram route to get there. That and it's in a rough part of town (like most soccer stadiums in France)

That and the metropolitan area there is mostly students, many of them are international as well. Not necessarily Montpellier fans.

Its also a rather large stadium. Rather hard to fill up.

These aren't excuses, but that can help explain why their attendance is lower than it should be for a large city.
