Rio or O'Shea v. Liverpool are still "late game" winners this side of Ole putting it in the Germans net. Then again nothing really rivals, for me, what Scholes did to Barca. Out of these two? Owen. Giggs pass, the feeling we had thrown the match away just moments before, the reaction of both managers, etc. With Villa we were just happy to have found ourselves on level terms before the Macheda's goal.
because of hindsight Macheda winner got us the Premier League Title. Owens winner might mean nothing at all and Owen will have to score 10 Lge goals at least to satisfy expectations. Macheda would have earned a rep with one. It was the slightly better finish but a winner in a derby, that's legendary. A goal that led to a league win. It's just not the same in United mythology, it wasn't deceive, it was against Villa. Macheda still has some way to go.
I was more animated with the Macheda goal. It was at the point in the season when we were going through that really rough patch, where everything seemed to be going a bit off. The style of the finish and what it meant for our season was huge. Owen goal was stilll amazing though.
Macheda due to it being April versus September and I think we were about level with Liverpool on points at the time.
I felt Macheda's was a lot more special, considering how important it was for us to bounce back after that loss and the fact that he was so young and a lot of people hadn't even heard of him before. Where as for Owen, he's been there and done that. Both were very important and great to watch unfold, but Kiko has the edge on Mikey for me.
Both goals were equally exciting, but it was seriously unexpected for a 19 year old to provide that type of turn-of-event.
In all honesty the comeback against Spurs was better then Macheda's winner and was just as critical to winning the league.
14:02 I asked Sir Alex the same question this morning. His answer: "Both of them! How can I choose? [long pause] I think it has to be Michael’s goal on Sunday... just because it was in the derby." (NC)
For now, I say Macheda. As sweet as it was for Owen to get one in the derby, and the storyline leading up to the encounter, Macheda's goal came at a time when we just lost to Liverpool and Fulham and the league race was tightening up. Both goals made a statement though. I feel like they both said "******** you, we're the champions."
Macheda, as it was more exciting to me. Simple as that. I could apply logic as to why, and argue my case well. However, that would be retrospective and not really about the moment the ball hit the back of the net. Emotions aren't necessarily logical or rational even though I could say it was a more important goal at a pivotal moment in the season etc. I was happier, made more noise and felt a bigger rush/release when Macheda scored and that'll do for me.
Macheda. At that point in the season that was a crucial goal. Especially when you take into account the age of the player at the time. Owens goal was great and it may (will) be one people look back at come the end of the year.
without the macheda goal i'm not sure we win the league or not. that goal was a shocker; plus, it won us the league and turned the momentum in the title race. (Owen's goal was awesome though.)
Ok, that was a huge moment. But, like RoM, Macheda's goal released an insane amount of euphoria in me. The combination of the timing, the circumstances, and him being somewhat of an unknown(not to most of us but you get the point) created an explosive cocktail. Seriously, it was orgasmic. It was like we gave Liverpool the finger and said: "******** you, our first team can't do it? So what? We'll just bring up some kid from the Reserves and he'll do it." Only our 4-2 win away at Everton and our 1-0 win away at Anfield, both in 06/07 rivals the Macheda Moment for me.
I don't know. There was just something about having felt like we had just given it away after being the superior team for the entire second half that blew me away.
For me, it's that we expect Owen to do things like that, while we expect much less from young, developing players, especially in their earliest games. When Macheda scored, there was the awesome late-goal-must-score euphoria, but also the who-is-this-kid-I'm-so-happy-he's-ours euphoria as well.
