Who thinks that MD won't make it all the way? And I need a valid reason why?

    valid reason

    1) Sasho, 2) Clarence Goodson

I wish to heaven the Terps could win, but with Sasho and the Goodsons, they are not championship material. If we lose to SLU, it would actually save us the embarrassment of Sasho and the Goodsons being on the national stage. I really love all of the other players and coaches and wish them the best.

How does Clarence Goodson's dad being loud and annoying in your eyes decrease Maryland's chances of winning?

    Goodsens

My point is: Teams that have people like the Goodsens and Sasho are not champions. Champions control their emotions and do not make a$$e$ of themselves. If you would have witnessed the elder Goodsen cursing and taunting opposing players, I think you would understand. If you would acknowledge the misbehavior of Sasho, you may understand. They are not champions, as much as I would like it for the other deserving team members.

I have a feeling that this is Maryland's year. UCLA caught the injury bug at the wrong time. Prediction, Yeagley's boys will win it for Jerry.

lastword, tell me more about why Clarence Goodson's play (as opposed to his Dad's behavior) is a detriment to the team. I saw Clarence play out here for the Boulder Rapids Reserves, and I thought he was a real asset to the team. But clearly I only had limited opportunity to observe him.

    D.C. give or take
    Re: Goodsens

I don't see how this lessens their chances of bringing it home this year. The Maryland team, to put it plainly, is tremendous - it's one of the deepest and most experienced teams ever in college and it had huge expectations this year and has mostly lived up to them. If I'm the Terps right now, I'm saying hell yeah - I got two great college centre-backs with offensive skill, two outside backs that can defend, a serious mixture of skill & viciousness in midfield with Sumed & Buete, guys that are going up and down the wing, working so hard, and great depth up-front.
And Palmer isn't that bad either.

I'm liking the Terps - bring ST. LOUIE on

    Terps

I agree. the Terps are well poised to win it all. I am simply saying that the champions I have seen in every sport are also self controlled gentlemen, except for maybe the one Raider team. Watch and see.

Dude, is this really necessary? You can be a witty guy and sometimes offer good analysis but do we really need personal attacks?

Whatever your beef w/ Goodson, please leave it off these boards.

Honestly, it really discredits everything else you have to say and just makes you seem like a punk.

I seem to remember McKinley stepping on Goodson's crotch last year quite blatantly. His team went on to win the championship. I wouldn't say that he controlled his emotions at that moment last year, and it didn't seem to hinder his team's ability to get the result at the end of the day.

lastword, sandon is right, and you don't really need to bring the family into this.

besides that, sasho is a big enough reason.

    valid reasons

Sorry, you are right: Goodsens Good, Lastword bad. Where is the disdain when players are regularly called punks and other names on these boards? Let's just be consistent. I did not call names, I expressed an opinion regarding behavior. Good point about Mckinley last year. I will try to refrain from offending anyone in the future.

Oh come on. Get out of the goody-two-shoes ivory tower.

Good behavior and athletic prowess have NOTHING to do with each other.

Lets see, NBA champion Dennis Rodman comes to mind. Ask Mets fans what they think about Roger Clemens "championship" attitude. Or maybe you saw the end of the Florida-Florida State game. The world is full of "champions" who are also a$$holes. Deal with it.

There is one thing that will keep the Terps from winning it all...the ability to score goals. Goals are at a premium in the late stages of a one and done tournament, and MD has shown this year that they are not the best finishing team. I don't suspect that they will win it. But they do have a great overall team and a stellar D and Mid.

it's always been my feeling that goals are NOT as important as having a defense that can't be scored on. why? cause 50% or more goals are accidents, deflects, etc. a good defense doesn't rely on the unexpected. i like umd deep in the tournament because of their defense.

    Re: Re: Goodsens

i don't get this stuff. these boards are for posters to express their opinions - whether harsh, critical, complimentary, etc. other than the comments about family (or other attacks made against other posters), i think lastword has every right to say what he did about goodsen the player. and i agree, goodsen ain't that good. he's just tall. i've seen worse comments from other posters - witness the crap that people gave luvdabears about his son. there's a lot of value in being able to articulate from the critical perspective, and to have non-conformist comments.

Thanks dead dude. I assume then that you don't have any problem with my analysis or my criticism of the Goodsens and the Sasho? I have elevated their status to FSU, Rodman and Roger status. Why the dissent?

    Re: cadaver

Not quite. It was YOU that linked their attitude and their prospects ("Maryland will never be champions because...") That is what was wrong with your analysis - the linkage. There is NO causal relationship.

Now, whether your qualitative evaluation of the individuals is correct or not, I don't know. I've only seen MD play live once this year and a couple of games on TV. I never noticed the bad attitude issue you seem to put so much stock in, but that doesn't mean it deosn't or does exist. I leave that to others.

The only point I was trying to make is that you CANNOT assume that jerks are unable to be champs - they can and they often are.

This would be the reason the Terps don't win it. They're loaded with talent and are very focused, but outside of Garey the forwards have not been consistent. Mediate being out for the season exacerbates the problem - he showed last year that he can score big goals.

That said, if Thompson is healthy and can go a full 90 in the last three matches, they're in a lot better shape.

I'm not a fan of Sasho's tactics either.

So which is it? Yeagley's boys winning it for him (your earlier post) or the terps? Don't be a fence sitter.

Play with soul and passion, but when its over show
humility. Yesterday, no matter how bad it got for UCONN'S women soccer team they lost with class
and did not resort to negative actions. Kudos to them and a powerhouse UNC team!
