It seems that this very week several teams have sent hispanic players packing, including Tom Sanchez. It appears that the league is cracking down on those that come with the wrong attitude or motives, and they are no longer giving them second, third and fourth chances to prove they are willing to work hard and integrate with the team.

If this is true, it's about time. Not just for those that come from Mexico, Central and South America, but for those that come from across the pond looking for a retirement league.

Please post a link where this was made official, because I think everyone on the board, including 3rd Degree missed this one.

Emilio, Becks, etc. Not seeing the evidence where this is actually happening.

Maybe you missed it in the Heath Pearce announcement, but Buzz had it as Wally notes and I don't think it can get more official than this:

    http://web.mlsnet.com/news/team_new..._id=6908304&vkey=news_fcd&fext=.jsp&team=t104

"It was also announced today that the club and forward/midfielder Alvaro "Tom" Sanchez have mutually agreed to end his contract with FC Dallas. Sanchez was signed by FC Dallas on April 3 and appeared in three games this season."

Don't get why you feel compelled to single out the race of the players. Do you realize how this can come across? I doubt you would put it out there if it were black players you questioned. But, since ole whitey is the preferred whipping boy, let me amend your post just to illustrate:

I think it is all fine to slam lazy players, but to assign them an ethnicity is a bit too "Kanye" for my taste.

(BTW, no intended disrespect to JW, I simply used his name as a generic "white guy" who was no longer with the team.)

I'm hispanic and I'm not offended.

As far as the topic, as much as I loved Rocha last year, I wouldn't mind if he was cut and sent back to Brazil.

I was wondering if he would be next, because he comes from South America and clearly has had issues with his effort.

This is not meant to slam hispanic players, but rather to question whether the league is getting tougher with players coming from certain leagues that seem to arrive thinking that they are on holiday.

As I said, we have seen plenty from across the pond that fit this mold, however, the league seems to be cracking down on those right now who come from the leagues in South America.

What got my attention is the tone of the announcements... It just seems that instead of working trades or trying to work things out, they are literally "sending these players packing".

Does anyone know if something has triggered this reaction from the league?

Fewer roster spots? More competitiveness? An eager use of US journalists to use Euro-soccer-terms like "sent packing" instead of "released" or "waived"? Maybe MLS hired Bretos to write transfer updates?

Obviously it was too buried in those other press announcements for me to catch it. I stand corrected.

All I know is, next time Chicago Fire comes to play to town, I will be right there in front taunting Cuactemoc Blanco.

    Can't stand the guy.

He is supposed to be leaving the Fire after this season. So you may not get that chance.

    LOL!

But he's funny! :D He's so over-dramatic, and his theatrics are such that I guess you either love him or hate him. Personally, I think he's funny and fun to watch. Oh, and you can't deny that he has talent, even at his age (what is it now . . . 45??:D) He certainly gave the USMNT fits when he played against them for Mexico.

Blanco came on as a sub in Dallas' home opener. Of course, he earned a foul in a dangerous spot . . .

And of course he scored. :p

Of all the overpriced, under-performing exports to grace MLS with their presence, Blanco (a hispanic, btw :p) is the LAST one I would be criticizing for NOT bringing it.

He may be old and can't go the full 90 anymore, but when he does get on the field, he contributes. Ask the Fahr how far they would have gone last season without him. ;)

Blanco is pretty talented. I just can't stand his unsportsmanship.

LOL, I guess I missed my chance. I don't think he'll be playing at the Cotton Bowl.
