Japan was where he played & excelled at the Sub-20 World Championship.

More than natural that he'd get admirers there.

But being a legend is waaay more than that.

Being a legend is a 17-year-old kid scoring the decisive goals in an adult World Cup final at the adversary's home and in their continent.

Pelé could have stopped there that he'd be the King forever.

That was inedit, is inedit & will keep being inedit till someone does anything similar maybe within 100 years - who knows? ...

Maradona had to wait till he was 25 (and use his hand) to really unveil his cards.

There is NO WAY you can put El Pibe & the Negão in a similar level.

And 'somebody' else (Garrincha, Di Stéfano, Best, Beck, Crujff etc) be...the 'third'.:D

    Late in his career......

One of the best strike rates for both club and country
187 goals and over 35 assist in 307 games

02-03 - WC champ, silver-ball, golden shoe, la liga champ, intercontinental champ, Intercontinental final mvp
    03-04 – Pichichi/la liga topscorer
04-05 - The 3rd season straight he scored 20+ la liga goals [eto, villa, forlan, etc have yet to do that]
    05-06 - WCQ topscorer
06-07 - WC bronze shoe, only Klose scored more, WC all time topscorer, also in Serie A for AC Milan he had a goal or an assist every 89 minutes

He ain't as great as he use to be....but he has still been better than most

And oh yeah....for four years he and Casillas were Real Madrid best two players...

I think he doth protest too much. Just pointing out the falsehoods of some of your earlier claims, to late to move goalposts now or circumvent the issue with a tangent like this.:p

Interesting arguement made my Tribune on Zinedine Zidane. I feel the same thing for Cristiano ROnaldo. not because I hate him or anything, but Rooney was the real heart in Manu's battle for thethree PLs and the CL. He trecked back to help defend won ball, started counters, played out of position, score more important goals thand CR9. HE has a shot at being one of the greats if he wins World cup in 2010, ahead of both CR9 and even Messi.

    THats rubbish.

Rooney did do all those things, but ronaldo pretty much pulled the bull by the horns himself and scored decisive games. Last season Arsenal, Porto, Aston villa and Sporting Lisbon, Chelsea, Lyon from the top of my head.

To not give Ronaldo any credit is like saying Rivaldo did alot of the donkey work and was the fulcrum of BRazil while the real ronaldo took all the credit and was not that important. which is an exaggeration.

I personally don't get how and why Maradona at absolutely no provocation, tries to blast Pele, like before the Brazil qualifier. Pele rarely ever mentions Maradona. Sounds like an obsession.

Maradona has always been all bark no bite. Pele is his hero and his nemesis at the sametime. Diego will always be in the shadow of Pele. Maradona is a swan song.

    THey both backbite each other.

Most recently Pele blasted Maradona out of nowhere when his son was having drug problems and balmed it on "bad role models" like Diego Maradona.

Ronaldo didn't score against Chelsea last season. Manchester United didn't even play against Lyon or Sporting Lisbon.

If at least Maradona had known when to stop as the Negão did maybe his legend could survive longer.

But that is in reaction to the years of sniping he's got from Maradona...for no reason.

But arguable Pele had a point...

What does that have to do with the conversation at hand:confused:, KINGKONG himself holds onto a fascination of not being able to talk Pele without mentioning El Pibe, why is that?

And Pele and his personal life is a "good" role model, personaly I don't look at either of them for that, the game and what they did on the pitch is what counts and both were sublime in that arena.

I'm not referring to their personal lives.

What I'm saying is that quite often, without provocation Maradona likes to talk about him being greater than Pele in footballing matters. But I don't recall Pele doing the same...

But if it was Maradona who during his whole lifetime couldn't say 2 words without mentioning the King! ...

How can you talk about El Pibe & Pelé without mentioning that?...

In the same way you cannot pronounce 2 words without mentioning KK.

Even in threads I'm not present.

Which direction the fascination comes from? lol ...

Besides the topic of the thread is about Pelé & Maradona, isn'it?...

You want people by force to act like authomatons & speak 100% of the time about the VERY theme of the thread, as if somebody who is in the North Pole could never speak about the Equator???

You get to the point of PM'ing mods about people 'getting off-topic' that I know.

And by 'getting off-topic' 99% of the times read it: when Maradona is being criticized.

And by 'people' read it 'KingKong'! lol ...

BTW the above quoted post - thanks for the uppercase! :) - is already a 'warning' to the mods ('hey boss, KINGKONG is stepping on my toes!')...

Man, for God's sake, are you that dictatorial at home? (be it at your home or BS)? Try to make life easier to the ones who are next to you, will you? ...
