    No joint ventures?

If you say yes, we can hold the world cup in Jamaica.

    Joint?
    Get it?

    Nevermind.

Actually, could there be a Mundial hosted by the nations of el Caribe? That would be great. Each little island could get a match and the semi and finals in say Cuba, Puerto Rico, Jamaica!

Colombia can't be compared with the other SA countries. They've had what some people call a civil war for about 35 years and I read somewhere that Colombia was the most dangerous country for journalist for about 10 years in a row.

In the "Reporters without borders" page, Colombia is ranked 144 out of 166 below Afghanistan, Palestine, Iraq and Haiti.

Let’s see…it is probably a good assumption to say that the world cup will be hosted in SA at some point in the future….BUT…the date is unknown right now…and the earliest would be 2014….A LONG TIME FROM NOW.

Considering that, I think anybody could host it….IF they announce it soon….They could probably build the stadiums, or get the money for them….I’m talking everyone, including Venezuela, Bolivia, Paraguay ETC.

The only real concern is the country’s internal situation….an Example is Colombia…as one guy said, they have this “Guerrilla”…a gorilla war happening…and if the situation doesn’t change, it is probably not a good idea to host a WC in that country. They recently hosted a South American championship…and Argentina didn’t want to attend…so imagine how boring it was.

well fifa doesnt want the world cup to be held in the same boring old countries (brazil argentina uruguay etc)
i heard they want it to be in the Andes region....which makes Ecuador a perfect choice as they have the beautiful estadio monumental and others in quito and cuenca.

Talking with some Santiago Wanderers fans a few weeks ago, they mentioned that something was in the works for Playa Ancha (their match against U Catolica was moved to Sausalito because PA wasn't suitable). How realistic it is, I have no idea, but let's hope its a step towards Chile 2014.

1986 Colombia was ready to host the World Cup but some high ranking Fifa Offical was kidnapped which is why Mexcio ended up hosting 1986 World Cup.

No. We didn't host it because we couldn't afford it.

A friend of mine who is Mexican told me the story along with other friends of mine who are Colombian and older than me(So I figure if they didn't complaint the story was true).None of the other Colombian objected to his story so I blieve it.

I just did some research and you're right.

"Colombia was originally given the 13th FIFA World Cup, but had to withdraw because of economical reasons. On short notice Mexico was given the job to stage the tournament.."

The lobby among Chilean politicians to bring the World Cup to Chile is very strong. It died once it was decided that everybody would back Brazil for the 2014 WC, but I'm sure it will come back in the future considering there is a concensus among all political parties on the subject. Everybody thinks it will be helpful to breath new life into our poor national league, and this combined with a new law that will privatize the league and bring money into the sport helps us dream with a new Chilean world cup. It's funny, because I'm sure we don't have the money to hold this all for ourselves.

I'm sure, though, if other countries stepped up, like Colombia or Venezuela, they would be chosen instead. We already had a World Cup, and I'm sure it will be taken against us once the moment of decisions arrives.

Colombia is a contradiction. Port access to the Caribbean and the Pacific, a large population, a skilled workforce, a plethora of natural resources, a beautiful scenery... a pretty nice country . If the civil war ended tomorrow, Colombia could easily become one of the 3 most important economies in Latin America, together with Mexico and Brazil. Here's hoping one day that peace will reign in Colombia, and Chileans, Peruvians, Bolivians and everybody will be happy to celebrate a World Cup game being held in Bogota, Medellin, or Cali.
