The city of Seattle's sports fans in general won't see this a big. Soccer fans here have always marched to to the beat of their own drums, just like fans of the sport around the country. I say if we all *pretend* hard enough, then it IS as big.
No, I'm loyal to the Rapids. The only chance that will change is if/when I move back to the Seattle area and since I'm about to close on a house in Denver that's not happening for a while. But I'm more loyal to the Dawgs than the Rapids.
Yes. We have qualified for the 2010-2011 CONCACAF Champions League. The final will take place in April 2011. If we manage to win that, we will qualify for the 2011 FIFA Club World Cup which will take place in December 2011.

Well if the NCAA ran the Soccer Bowl they would probably find that the Cosmos used an ineligible player and stripped them of the title.
Maybe you only started following Seattle sports in 2005. Do you realize how bad the Seahawks were in the 1990s and in the early part of 2000s? Historically, UW Football is the top of the food chain in Seattle sports. We're talking about 2 national championships, not including the fact that UW got screwed of the #1 spot in the final Coaches and AP poll in 1984 USOC title is a prestigious trophy, but let's keep real. Most Americans do not know anything about USOC.
I think the Seattle Sounders are now a bigger enticement for prospective UW students than college football. Sorry, Chizzy, you will have to adapt.
I am a UW Football and SSFC season ticket holder and can't wait for us to get whoop by LSU on Saturday.
The Seahawks' Conference Championship is a major trophy IMO. Yes, the Super Bowl is bigger in the NFL, but unlike soccer there aren't alternate competitions in which to win trophies. I'd go with the conference trophy as being major. I can't quite remember which of these was the 2008 trophy though:
Just some observations on Seattle's victory: ========================================== 1) MLSNet & USSF used different headlines for the story: MLSNet: Seattle became the third club to win the Open Cup in their first year of existence. USSF: Seattle Sounders FC Become Second MLS Expansion Team to Claim U.S. Open Cup Crown. Personally, I like the USSF's version better, since DCU was pretty much on equal footing with the rest of the league back in '96, unlike the more "rookie" nature of the other 2 sides. How about you? ========================================== 2) Seattle's win was all the more quite remarkable given that they had to start from the bottom of the pile through the play-in (much like the Wildcard for US Open Tennis), beating 5 MLS sides & 1 USL-1 side to capture the trophy. Surely this has to be the toughest route for any winners from MLS, since play-in was introduced in 2007 (if I remember correctly)? Seattle's USOC '09 Quest: Play-in Semis: RSL 1-4 Seattle Play-in Final: Colorado 0-1 Seattle 3rd-Round: Seattle 2-1 Portland (the USL-1 Leaders) Quarters: Kansas City 0-1 Seattle Semis: Houston 1-2 Seattle (the MLS-SS Leaders) Final: Seattle 2-1 DC United (the Defending Champions!!) Comparatively, the 2 previous winners had it easier: 2007: New England: No play-in as they were 4th overall in 2006. Played 1 team from MLS, 2 from USL-1 & 1 from USL-2. 2008: DC United: No play-in as they were SS winners in 2007. Played 2 teams from MLS & 2 from USL-1.
5 MLS sides and the best USL-1 team by far. That's 6 rounds of quality competition. The 64-team NCAA basketball tournament is also 6 rounds.
