I guess Ribery, Gourcuff and Canella will have to wait until next summer. Maybe throw Hernanes in there too, just for fun.

Heh...I definitely wouldn't mind Hernanes, I rate him highly. Maybe Kaka could tutor him too (in the ways of Jesus and going forward).

At this stage (with his career and the way our squad looks) he would be much better off at pretty much anywhere else.

I'd love to have Hernanes here and by "having Hernanes here" I mean playing for Real Madrid :D

Without torres, does Arbeloa turn into our starting left back and backup right back at the same time?

Or is Marcelo keeping that left spot and Arbeloa staying as a pure right back sub? I'm not sure of the depth in that position anymore.

So if Arbeola gets the #2 then #16 will be free for Xabi. Much better than #22 IMO.

Right now, Arbeloa is our first choice right back with Ramos out injured. Albiol, Metz, and Lassana can play there if necessary. No idea what is going to happen at LB, but I suspect it will be Marcelo and Drenthe.

Which is why I had a sligh problem with the sale of Heinze. Neither Marcelo or Drenthe are any good defensively but they are both left backs whose specialties are getting forward in attack. Arbeola is an average right back and so that must make him a less than average left back. Heinze was out only true left back option even if he was not the best left back option on the planet it beat not having a legitimate left back option. Oh well water under the bridge. My only hope is that Marcelo can keep his form and continue to improve until he is a world class left back and not just a potentially world class left back.

Arbeloa is a great defender, he just can't attack well. He will be fine on the left if he needs to play there, much better than Heinze who was old and prone to grave errors in judgement. (Last year CL vs. Liverpool for instance.)

I think it is to late to change numbers now that the season has started. I'm not exactly sure about this but I imagine at the very least the winter transfer window would allow for a change of #'s.

Anyway I had hoped that either Benzema, Higuain, or Xabi Alonso would get the #10 as they more closely fit the role of a traditional #10 player and because they did not have shirt numbers belonging to the starting eleven. I just don't see M. Diarra getting many starts this season if any. I wonder how it was decided that VdV and Diarra would get their old #'s back. I thought Lass was the ideal #6 for us and like Wesley before him I think he just signed his own transfer for next summer by wanting it all and taking the #10 shirt. Unless of course he sells a sh*t load of jersies Perez is going to want someone wearing that shirt who will make sales like Benzema who I thought had said he wanted the #10 and wears it for France so it is kind of weird that Lass has it now. I think Lass is a great player and he has scored a couple of very nice goals in the shirt this far; but on a team with Benzema, Ronaldo, and Kaka well Lass is not the creative genius that the fans come to watch play.

Perez will never sell a French DM again. Never. And the numbers aren't set yet, the registration date is in a week or so I think.

Well seeing as how the summer transfer window is shut, this thread should die along with it. There are no more rumors, no zinaldo's endless rants. But there will still be lies and then the weasel of the forum will continue whining about every single thing somewhere else.

So with all that said...DIE THREAD!!!!!

I was hoping this transfer season would at least yield us Silva. That's who I wanted the whole time :(

Benzema, Higuaín or Xabi are not a 10 in any case. Only Kaká, Granero or Vn der Vaart are a classic #10. It was traditionally given to the best attacking midfielder, usually very highly skilled, even left footed (10's used to start from the left side with the traditional 4-3-3 from which all this legend numbers comes).

    -----1
    -2--4--5--3
    ---8-6-10
    -7---9---11

In any case, I agree, to me seeing Lass with the 10 is pure sacrilege and a big mistake in terms of marketing and merchandising. You want the 10 for the star, mostly children. Maybe they made it to avoid disputes and ego hurtings among the stars, as Benzema and Kaká surely wanted it, but I guess it will mean selling less shirts too. The right thing in this Madrid where Raúl is still keeping the 7 would be:

    Lass: 6
    Xabi: 8
    Benzema: 9
    Kaká: 10
    Cristiano: 7 or 11
    Raúl: in Qatar

Valdano on Onda Cero says it was Robben's father that insisted on him leaving because of his limited playing time, even though the management considered him "important" in their plans. He also says that we have 24 players with one spot for emergencies, so I guess Adan is registered with the first team after all.

"Robben has no guts, after all that mobbing he chose to leave!"

Seriously, if the club hadn't wanted Robben out, is there a chance that we've sold him for such a low price?

I still can't get over that of all people staying it's VDV. Surprised he would want to stay after how he was apparently treated.

I don't follow Valdano's version of thing 100%, but i also believe that Robben's explanation of the transfer is not what actually happened.

If the club would've wanted to sell him just 'cause, they would have gotten rid of him at day 1.

So is it over? Is it really over? Is the summer transfer period totally officially definitely unquestionably over?
