I have a bad feeling about this match after having lost there the last 2 seasons. Our away form has not been good, having won only 2 out of 6 games, and having been destroyed in 2 of the other ones (Valencia and Seville). This season, Osasuna has been playing well and at this stage is challenging for a UEFA cup place.

If that's not all, Zidane is definitely out while Pavon, Beckham, Figo and RC are all doubtful.

    zidane, figo, roberto carlos out.

    pavon, beckham in.

will probably see helguera and pavon in central defense with raul bravo moved to left back. then perhaps cambiasso with guti in central midfield, beckham on right for figo, and solari on left for zidane.

I haven't a bad feeling about this game, i have a very bad feeling.

Osasuna stadium is the place nearest to hell for a RM player. It has a very small field, the people is very near of the players, and they very agressive with RM players, sometimes too much agressive, also the Osasuna player play very hard. Beckham is going to discover that the away games that he has played in la liga are a Disney movie compared with Osasuna game.

And Zidane, Figo and Roberto Carlos won't play.

And Osasuna is playing the best soccer in many years, they are in the sixth position in la liga.

I will be very happy with a tie. And if we won, it will be great.

I hope that Querioz doesn't put Guti. It is a game for Cambiasso. Osasuna players are going play very aggresive supported by all the people in the stadium in the first 20-30 minutes, what RM have to do it is touch the ball like in the Marseille game. The problem is that the field is small, and osasuna players will have more easy to put pressure over RM player to recover the ball, and at the same time RM players will have less spaces to move the ball.

My starting line up for this game would be:
    Casillas
    Salgado, Pavon, Helguera, Raul Bravo
    Nuñez, Beckham, Cambiasso, Solari
    Raul, Ronaldo

It would be very important for the team confidence to win this game, or at least don't lose.

A curious note about the game is one of the best Osasuna players - Valdo - is a player of RM youth teams. RM wants to recover him for the next year.

Agreed, I think that Pamplona is a very difficult place. The have a midfield that will pressure ans steal balls all over the place. Madrid will be more than happy with a tie. (I have a 1 in my quiniela, though ;) )

I think that Valdo is playing some nice football, but what in th ename of God is Madrid going to do with this kid next year? I see MAdrid selling him, after the loan is over. He won't endure what Tote went through and I hope he doesn't, he needs to progress and the only way is playing, especially in a stadium as difficult as El Sadar, with its small field and nasty grass.

Just to add, Osasuna has lost 3 games this season, ans still received 9 goals against. The best defense together with Valencia and Depor.

I think that Valdo is playing some nice football ...... I see MAdrid selling him, after the loan

Valdo is not loan in Osasuna, Real Madrid sold him to Osasuna, and now RM have a option to re-buy him.

What do these three teams have in common? They are amongst the teams that have commited the most fouls.

The year that Valencia won the league, they fouled more than any other team by a mile.

MadridForever; Thanks for the correction on the loan and sale. I thought it was a loan.

well I didn't get to see the game as I was at work but I read the reports and they mostly say it was an 'undeserved' draw for Real. Interesting that Queiroz decided to switch Beckham back to the center in the second half - he has become a real force for this team and it seems this is where he is really most valuable. I wonder when Sven Goran Eriksson will try him there.
This was expected to be a tough game, last year this was a loss, so maybe a 1-1 draw isn't so bad, especially considering that Figo, Zidane, and Roberto Carlos were out.

Today Madrid was outplayed by Osasuna. Two shots on goal and a free kick was all Madrid did offensively. Raul lost. Ronaldo won twice the one-on-one ... enuff to score once.

Unfair result. Osasuna desreved the 3 points, hands down. They dominated the entire game.

Madrid didn't play that well but a draw is probably a good result considering the absentees and that Beckham isn't fully fit (he limped off late in the match). Osasuna had more of the ball but didn't create that many chances. In the end I believe a draw is a fair result. Madrid's goal was a nice one. Beckham sent a nice ball forward which Ronaldo ran on to and beat his man for speed and finished to the far post.

I'd say Beckham, Ronaldo and Salgado were Madrid's best players today. I expected a bit more from Solari and Guti once again disappointed. Real Madrid will need to play better in their next league matches vs Atletico and Barcelona.

I think that it was a good result, seeing the circunstances before the game (Zidane, Figo, RC out), seeing what happened the last years (2 lost) and seeing what happened in the first half where Osasuna could have scored 2 or 3 goals. But Ronaldo played in RM, that was the difference. As Merenge has said he scored a very good goal, his 10 in la liga this year. He is the top "scorer/pichichi" of la liga. He and Beckham were the best RM players.

    The starting team was:

    Casillas
    Salgado, Pavon, Helguera, Raul Bravo
    Beckham, Guti, Cambiasso, Solari
    Raul, Ronaldo

In my opinion Queiroz made a mistake using Guti in the middle in a game so hard like the Osasuna. He should have learn of what happened in Sevilla. We lost the midfield in the first half, until that Queiroz moved Beckham again to the middle where he is playing great with RM. After that the team played better and we scored the goal, in a very good pass of Beckham.

Queiroz should have put Nuñez in the right and Beckham in the middle since the beggining. Nuñez has been one of the few youth players that have played good this year.

Beckham left the field injured, but it seems that he will be able to play the great game of the next wednesday, the Derby Real Madrid - Atletico de Madrid.

    Two thoughts about this;

    1. Madrid did not play better when Becks moved to the middle. They made one play and that was it, Cruchaga gave too much space to Ronnie and goal. Madrid played as bad or worse than in their games agaisnt Valencia and Sevilla, but Osasuna did not finish like those two teams. Had OSasuna known how to score, it would have been another scandalous result.

    2. If Queiroz made a mistake putting Guti, in a game where ZZ and Figo are not available, then what the hell is Guti in there for? A game where Borja, Nuñez, Miñanbres are also out? Guti showed yesterday what I have always said about him, he is not that good and gets the press becuase he plays in Madrid. I am sure that Saez will call him up for Portugal

Lastly, the other person that is hugely overrated is Cambiasso, he as good as any Gaspart signning.

    1. As i say before Real Madrid have Ronaldo, and Osasuna not, that's the diference. RM only needed two shot to goal two times to scored one. And not always will happen like in Sevilla, when, the first 3 times that they shot to goal they scored 3 goals. And if you saw the game, you will notice that in the first half Beckham was missing, he didn't received any ball, until that he moves to the middle and the team begins to touch better the ball, that help to control "better" the game and to create goal of Ronaldo, and at the same time Beckham defended better than Guti helping Cambiasso.

    2. Guti is in the team to play the home games to help to find spaces in the rivals defense, some minutes of the second half of the away games when the rivals are tired and he can play with more spaces, and some away games against teams that don't have a strong midfield, like for example Barcelona. Those are many many many minutes during the season. What he can't do is to play away games against teams with a midfield very strong physically, because everybody knows that to defend isn't his best quality, and the player that play with him would be totally alone to defend the center of the field.

If Ronaldo was a Osasuna player, we would have lost this match 5-0. With that in mind, I'd hardly say a draw was a fair result.

To me, Ronaldo was the only really good player while Beckham and Salado put in decent performances. I did think that Madrid improved after Beckham moved centre. We did not create much but were not as over-run in the middle as the first half. Of course we lost width on the right once he moved to the centre.
casillas was decent a well, no errors.

Solari disappointed me. This was his big opportunity to show he deserved a place in the starting XI. Well I guess I was wrong and he is not ready to create an impact over 90 minutes.

Raul Bravo is probably better in central defence than left-back. He had a tough time, especially agaisnt Valdo, who looked a bit of quality to me.

Pavon was not too bad (which is to say he gets a 4.5 out of 10) but Helguera was a complete disatster. He kept losing his players, getting out of position and making silly errors. I don't know if it was lack of concentration, but he was really bad.

raul was anonymous. Worse than Portillo in the last game. The coach must have the guts to take him off when he plays this badly. Even Portillo would have been an upgrade yesterday.

Cambiasso made we wish we did not sell Flavio (who I never liked btw, but that's how useless cambiasso was). To watch makalele put in yet another assured defensive-midfield masterclass against Man-U yesterday, was like salt on an open would. He was just brilliant, his anticipation, his positioning, how he always made himself available for a pass, his tackling, his cover for the defence. Cambiasso in contrast looks like how pavon looks in comparison to Nesta... but oh I forgot, didn't Perez say that pavon is as good as Nesta about a year or two ago. So that's okay then, nothing to worry about Cambiasso.

Guti.I don't want to repeat the same things I have said for over a year. I know I will hear the same excuses. He can't tackle, he can't pass, he has no discipline. let's just say that in one of the 3 worst performances so far, Guti stood head and shoulders above everyone else, reaching a level of ineptitude and complete uselessness that would be hard to match. Among the 3 best players for Osasuna on the night. Here's looking forward to more such glorious displays from our vice-captain!

i have to agree with most of anirbanblah's analysis here. Ronaldo was the difference for Madrid yesterday. He and Beckham saved Madrid. Still, as Merengue noted, Osasuna didn't create that many chances despite outplaying Madrid.

I have to say I am extremely dissapointed in the play this year of both Guti and Cambiasso. I expected more out of both of them. Raul has also been a major dissapointment this year. It's been his worst year that I can remember. Still I have confidence he'll pick it up. I'm less confident about Guti and Cambiasso improving much this year.

    have you seen raul lately?
saturday game: 0 shots, 0 goal chances, bad passes and loosing the ball a ton.
now if these are not numbers for the bench, what else is needed? may be some own goals before queiroz realizes that the team is playing with 10.
a lousy defense, a middle as wide as 6-lane freeway and to top it a mediocre coach. now you wonder how they don't lose every game they play.
the good news? beckham sold 1 million shirts.perez says everything is fine and he'll bring another forward next year, whom we'll he replace?
time to start questioning perez's mental health.

I won't give away the result of the derbi madrileño in this thread but will say Raul did play better today. A friend has come up with an interesting theory which is that the captaincy is too much pressure on Raul and he is worrying too much about being captain and it's responsibilities instead of just playing. It's an interesting theory. Let's hope Raul picks up his play or else,, as Madriz commented, he should go to the bench. But as we saw last season it is hard to bench a team captain in Madrid no matter how poorly he may be playing!

The answer to Raul is he needs ZZ and Figo in the team.
