I have a preference for Roy Makaay. But I think Henry is World footballer of the Year.

After hearing Floro today in a radio interview, I am convinced that Henry will go to Madrid. I have the same feeling I got last year with all the Becks talk.

Perhaps you have right feeling last year but not this year. Henry will 1000% stay in Arsenal, not Real not Barca, but Arsenal. It is somehow French colony there and he is the man there!!!

Arsenal chairman: £100M won't get you Henry
    tribalfootball.com - November 27, 2003

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood insists Thierry Henry isn't for sale - even at £100 million.
Hill-Wood told the Evening Standard: "I was at dinner the night before the game and someone asked me about Thierry's price - if it would be £50million, £70million or £100million if Abramovich called.

"My reply was 'we're not interested in selling.' Thierry's irreplaceable and we have no intention of letting him go.

"Thierry's is not only a great player, probably the most complete I have seen at Arsenal, but also a great character and a lovely boy.

"It was a great coup when he signed a new contract. We pay him a hell of a lot of money but he's never come across as a greedy person.

"It was a pleasure dealing with him and we're delighted he's staying on.

"What good is it having one of the best stadiums in the world if we don't have a team to match?"

Henry's sale would be a Guaranteed World Record. I mean, Arsenal does have a small French Colony ( I still can't get over Arsenal's manager is named Arsene...that's like Liverpool's Manager being named Liverington Pool)

But I think at Barca we need to concentrate on bringing in High Quality Youth. Not just High Quality. We cannot afford to continually delve into the Transfer Market..we must find the BEST and Keep them. Players like Kuranyi, Diego, Robinho, Gabriel Heinze, VDV, Sneijder.

Barcelona prefer Liverpool's Owen over Henry
    tribalfootball.com - December 1, 2003

Barcelona have begun drawing up their summer transfer plans.
Bild says Juventus midfielder Pavel Nedved and Liverpool striker Michael Owen are both priority targets for Barca president Joan Laporta.

Trainer Frank Rijkaard let slip last month his interest in Owen, while Nedved is a player the Dutchman admires greatly.

On the way out, according to the weekend report, are several big names, including Patrick Kluivert, Luis Enrique, Michael Reiziger, Marc Overmars and Phillip Cocu.

Why again old players like Nedved, he is perhaps the best player in the world at the moment but he is already 31 years old! Please sign someone younger, and why midfielder? we already have to much of them: Ronaldiniho, Riquelme, Xavi, Iniesta, Motta, Garcia, Quaresma, Santamaria... why again one more?!
One striker (world class player like Tevez, Vieri, Owen or Henry) and one defender (Mexes, Boumsong, Metzelder...) and end of story. Let I remmind our board that we have 150 million € debts!!!

Owen, Owen, Owen...hmm. Its possible Liverpool would want Kluivert, but not if they are going to lose Owen. Houllier maybe on his way out. We need a Midfield Boss. Someone to impose himself upon the midfield like Davids or VIera, a hard tackler, who doesn't get REDs like Motta. Nedved is a Magician. Will the Czech Republic become an EU nation? because Nedved would be Non-EU

Yes, Czech Republic will became an EU member on 1st May 2004.
Let I remind you that Nedved is a player like Ronnie and Roman. So he is old, we already have such players and he is expencive. Davids is old, out of form and want a big wage. Viera is not for sale so you can start looking for someone alse.
Motta is not a tackler, he plays there becouse he must, he is more like Xavi, more like game creator. I dont know why Cocu doesnt play as a game tackler, when he did paly there, Barca had resoults!
Marquez should play defence and Cocu midfield!!! I dont know why FR want from Cocu do play defence, he didnt show even one good game there.

If you ask me, Barca should play with three defenders in line, 4 defenders are for Italy to prevent counter attack. But Barcelona recieved more than 80% of goals this year by counters. With three defenders we could get a palce for one more striker and we could get more goals. All we have to do is to sign one worldclass defender (Mexes-I would pay for him moe than for Ronnie, he is is the man). Everything alse Barca already have.

I am slowly losing my patience with FR!!!

Oh if anyone will comment three defenders as a bad defence. Roma play in Italy with three defendrs in line and they hadnt recieved a goal more than 720 minutes!!!! (There play in defence Samuel, Chievu and Zebina, and in front of them Emerson and Dacourt-it is a wall that even Inter, Milan and Juventus couldnt destroy it!!!!)

We need to Poach Zebina from Roma. He's young and athletic. He'd go perfect in the Middle, next to Puyol.

Agree and he is avaible for right money, but Milan, Inter and Juve have already in talks with him to sign him in January.
Still want Mexes in the team.

    Actually we don't need to blow our Budget on Defenders like we did before (especially French ones ) {Christanaval}

Dutch ones are different, Heitinga? Hofland? anyone?

    Barca D

    Is everyone here drunk?

    Mario, you disappoint me.

What's all this talk about world class defenders and/or Marquez not living up to the hype?

    (What hype?)

    Marquez IS 'World Class.'

If you play him, they(wins) will come.

    Don't blame Rafa, blame Barca.

We need better defenders, not barca youth team-produced catalans with "slight" promise. We need better, truer strikers, not makeshift forwards like PK9 or Saviola. We need better wingers, not young and overhyped creeps like Quaresma. (C. Ronaldo at Man U is the same deal) Hell, we need a better coach.

No offence to DFRulez but there are too many CRAP dutchmen on the squad. (You know what I mean)

Some are underachieving while others are too old/long beyond their prime.

Offload them along with Garcia, Enrique, PK9 and their salaries.

    Pick up some true class.

I know it's all opinion most of the time, but I truly believe Saviola is not worthy of being a top Euro club's striker.

On the bright side, at least DeBoer is gone. :)

    Enough ranting for today.

    Re: Barca D

I havent seen Marquez playing as a world class so far so I disagree with you. he is still quite young but he will have to show far more before speaking about him as a world class player.

Mexes is a true class becouce he has already show his quality. You should watch some Auxeree game or when he playes for France national team.
Why Boumsong? He is free in January, he didnt go to Liverpool becouse of the personal therms they didnt reached.
Metzelder is just a dream. He is the best German defender at the moment and one of the best in the world. Same story as with Puyol at Barca, Homegrown kid who is not for sale.
Worns, I dont like him becouse he is to old.

Saviola, read my first post here and you will see what I think of him. He is not a world class player. He is a good player but not world class. We paid for him almost 50 million € (That how Laporta said when reading where did debts come from-more see G14 thread).
Quresma, totaly agree. he disapoint me from the first moment I sow him playing. he is quick and had a good technique, but his crosses are terrible!!! Not good for a winger
Becouse of PK I started "We need a new striker!!!" thread.
Rijkaard, when Barca had signed him I got a headacke. Telling by truth, he has surpised me, I tought it will be worse.

Thanks god we have Puyol in defence and Ronnie upf ront. When they are not playing, Malaga think happen!!!

Yes, and I am drunk sometimes. But than I dont write posts here:D

I don´t post here much but I read it as much as I can.

The bitching and wining here is getting out of hand.

I agree with getting rid of some of the older players, but it would be a damn shame to get rid of Luis Enrique. Let the guy retire with honor. Get rid of the rest of the other old farts.

Give Marquez and Quarezma a break, the team is still gelling. So is FR for that matter.

Defense: Build around Puyol. And for God´s sake put Rustu between the poles on a regular basis.

Strikers, that´s an interesting topic to me. Why look in another country? offer 10-15 Euro´s for a SPANIARD! Sell Saviola and get Fernando Torres, you get a franchise player and a dynasty like Real did with Raul. Now that would be something.

Wishful thinking I know, but those are my two cents.

Torres would be the best option of all but it is almost imposible to sign him. Reyes, Juanqin, Vincente... This are homegrown kids as Puyol is and Raul in Real is. Would do you sell the best player in the team? Would you sell Puyol? Same is with Torres and others spaniards.

Obviously by my BS Name I am biased toward Dutch players. But Only if they perform to the level expected. Barca should not nor never be lower than 5th in the Table.

I think the Barca board has become Crujff-Drunk because we keep hiring Dutch Managers. Of course God Forbid Argentina fire Bielsa and then Barca hires HIM! I want to see Van der Vaart obviously but also Arjen Robben, younger players with a Huge Vault of potential.

But my God we need defenders. Not crap ones, ones worthy of the Barca Shirt. Until we can score goals like its a disease we need the Cheaper option. Stopping other teams from scoring w/ athletic defender who can cause problems from Corners.

Our corners are a waste..we just play it short all the time.

if you are giving time to marquez and quaresma leave my boy saviola alone! let him play in an adequate system and he will score bunches of goals! nothing would botter me more than see Saviola shining in another team just because stupid management decided to send him to another team!

ya me imagino sampando tanatadas de goles en otro equipo y yo q me jalo de los pelos de la colera!

Ajax admit Man Utd, Milan target Van der Vaart could leave
    tribalfootball.com - December 6, 2003
"Ajax GM Arjan Van Eijden has admitted midfield ace Rafael van der Vaart could leave the Dutch giants at the end of the season.
Van der Vaart is being chased by Manchester United and AC Milan and admits he knows of their interest.
Van Eijden revealed yesterday: "Van der Vaart won't move until the summer. Last season we signed a new contract with him, which included an agreement that he would not leave Ajax until at least June, 2004."
The Holland international is rated his country's brightest talent and carries a price-tag in the £10 million range. "

15 million € for van der Vaart, yeah and I am Pope. He is the next Van Bastenh he is woth much more. At least 30 million € or Ajax is crazy to sell him. But if barca pay 15 million € for him, thats fine to me:D

I would trade Saviola for the Paraguayan Cardozo every day of the week.

And like I said on the other thread, Barza needs another player to take 1 on 1 the defense, thus creating spaces for the rest of the attack. I would sign Tevez to play along Ronnie.
