That is good to hear. Sadly it takes just a few idiots to make an entire fanbase look bad, but fortunately in almost every case, those idiots are not at all representative of the majority.
I spoke Spanish and when they took my banner they said it was because it was too big. So the guy from Ole Ole took it and said he would give it to me after the game. Then I see someone rockin' my banner during the pre-game warmups. I quickly got that ish back. I held it up once and then security told me to roll it up as it was too big. So I had to put it away, but at least I kept it.
when you have 100,000 fans, even if 1% are idiots, it's still 1000 fans and that is more fans that we had travelling. 1,000 idiots is a lot to take. Playful banter, never a problem but other stuff is uncalled for. I have seen it every time I have been to a Mexico game at "home", most fans are great but a handful are ridiculous and classless
I had a great time; I sat with a bunch of Mexican fans in the lower level that actually congratulated me on the USA goal, but they said they we going to win the match so our goal didn’t matter. I was hoping they we wrong. I got a beer shower which I was told is normal for Mexico scoring (the rest of the fans got soaked also). I guess at 20 pesos for a beer they could afford to throw it, not the $11.00 they charge at the Home Depot Center. Actually the Mexican fans were nice to me. A lady after the match told me she was sorry USA lost but Mexico needed to win to stay in the qualifying, she gave me a big hug. I can’t wait for four (4) more years to go back. I think every football fan needs to experience great atmosphere like that for a match.
N-gger? My family is from Mexico, and I root for USA, because Mexicans act boorish when they play against the Yanks like the idiot on the 31st second who is shouting the "N" word towards a black American fan. I have a VERY hard time walking, and the van driver dropped me off on the wrong side side of the stadium for Ticketmasters so I had to walk all the way around the stadium. By the time I got my ticket and into the stadium they were just starting the National Anthum so I just decided to sit where my ticket was on the lower level. I saw people paying the beer lady 20 pesos and some guy told me the beer was 20 pesos; when I told him about beer being $11.00 USD for a smaller cup he couldn't believe it. NotCreative, You are in the latest video clip that I found in Youtube. I have the clip posted on this thread. You got the crowd worked up like a heel in wrestling.
I agree with some of the posts talking about not generalizing a whole fan base because of a bunch of morons. I go to Azteca almost every game that's played there because I own a box, add to that that I'm a Cruz Azul fan and HATE Club America. You guys think I don't get shit thrown at me when I cheer for every team C.A. is playing against? C'mon... I actually learned to love the atmosphere! I once got hit on the head with an orange and the whole C.A. laughed at me LOL now my head was fine but my ego didn't feel so cool when you have 2,000 dangerous modafockers laughing at you. It's called passion, sure, some people act like monkeys but PLEASE, why be so arrogant and semi-racist? Do you guys know how bad american spring breakers leave most of our resorts on their spring break holidays? It's really effed up. Though I'm smart enough to know that not all gringos act like retarded fat clowns. I suggest those who like to judge shut their trap, grow some balls, learn to live with the facts of football passion... like someone said before, the FIFA world is not the NBA. If you felt your life was on danger I suggest you stop coming to these games and also suggest you NEVER go to a footie match in Italy, Argentina, Central America, Turkey, etc. Atleast in Mexico you can still bring your family and kids to watch a game.
That's cool man. I'm glad they treated you well down there. Could you ever hear us down there? We had lower bowl tix as well, when we came in the stadium we saw a small crowd of Yanks and just joined them in the march to outer darkness. It was a great time though.
I attended the 2001 and 2005 Azteca games and never felt any real danger. Although I didn't go this time it seems that the Mexican Federation's decision to place the USA fans so high up in the stadium as opposed to the placement on the lowest level in the two prior qualifiers turned out to be a bad decision that put USA fans in possible danger. From USA fan reports on BigSoccer and my own communication with fans who attended there were points when they felt they were in some physical danger. In the prior games the security kept us in our section for quite some time after the end of the game to allow many of the Mexican fans to leave and we exited through a tunnel where no Mexican fans were allowed. I hope to be able to attend the 2013 Azteca game and the USA fans are placed on the lower level where the Mexican fans seem to be more civil.
[Clapping Hands]Just wonderful[/Clapping Hands] Is this about football or the beaches after spring break? Nobody here is going to be in doubt about the kids going their screwing things up, but this is not the issue here. Keep rationalizing the behavior of the fans throwing crap in the name of "passion". What will it take before people can attend an away match to support their team without the threat of being hurt, someone getting seriously injured from a flying object? It will not take much for a person to lose an eye because some twat thought he had "passion" for football. Had that orange hit you in the eye and you lost it permanently I am positive you would be singing a very different tune about "passionate" fans.
First let me say that I found the Mexican people to be very warm and caring actually. Of course SOME of them acted like totally IDIOTAS in the stadium. I expected to get pelted with beer but not other physically hard objects like those little horns. That's life on the road I guess. And the post-match mini Bataan Death March orchestrated by la securidad was insane. They actually put us at MORE risk by doing that as opposed to having us remain in our section until the stadium cleared. And finally I KNEW I should not have bought that pre-made pollo wrap sandwich in the Autobus del Norte on my way to see the pyramides Thursday -- Montezuma is revenging me..........
Not really, I did a little when USA scored, but it was realy hard hearing over thousands of people chanting "Mexico, Mexico."
Pictures, some are fuzzy, sorry. Three sets of pictures. Lot's of pics of flying debris. My FLICKR link... http://www.flickr.com/photos/danteibanez/
same! Everyone i met on the trip was great, i look forward to hanging with ya'll and winning the game next time! I hope no one was offended with my yelling back at the Mexicans, i just get excited and involved.
Best way to put it parismatch, I'm really sorry some Mexican "fans" think passion justifies this kind of behavior, I do hope you guys come back and get the chance to experience another kind of atmosphere and get to know some other fans... I was sitting with 4 American guys, they were really cool and I can honestly tell you that we were all there to have a good time, we all wanted to enjoy the game. yes, we all got a beer shower (I wanna think it was beer), but other than that everything was pretty calm... I felt ashamed when people were throwing things at Donovan and when I heard stories from the fans... that's unacceptable!!! Mexican people can do better than that!! we should show respect for people, because if we don't, then how can we ask for respect back!! Nway, it was a great game hopefully you guys will come back to the city, it's a crazy place, but fun as hell!
had a great time. saw a bunch of good old friends. cant ask for more but will agree that guatemala had better security but that was only for 20 of us and didnt have to deal with 100k fans. our group has gone a long way since 01. I'm pretty sure the larger it gets in the future, the worse it will get. regardless, i'll see you guys at the next game.
Yeah I read that before and I felt very embarassed. I actually like Wahl's columns (both the college basketball and soccer) and believe that he is a cool guy. Anyway, it seems to me that the experience most people had was a little bit more extreme than the normal "Azteca-Mexico-USA-experience". There is a lot of bad vibes going on in Mexico now, it is weird, but you can feel it (Because of the crisis, swine flu crisis, war against the cartels, incopetence of the congress and so son). I would believe that some people just over reacted (some apparently in a bad way) to the only good news we have had in the last few months.
The next time we play Mexico on U.S. soil we should do our best to give them as warm a reception as they gave us,that's all.
