Just talked to Lawlor (he's out of town) and AO Hartford goes to City Steam Brewery on Main St, in Downtown Hartford. They're located at 942 Main Street Hartford, CT 06103 phone (860) 525 - 1600 fax (860) 244 - 2255
Basically, because this game is an away match, Telemundo held both the English and Spanish-language rights. Some people say that ESPN didn't acquire the English rights because the asking price was exhorbently high, some people say they just didn't want them. "mun2" is a channel owned by Telemundo, which broadcasts in Spanish and English and is geared towards younger Mexican-Americans (think MTV). The US-Mexico game is being used by Telemundo as kind of a "launching point" for the network, in hopes that they can retain some viewers after the fact. Because not every carrier in the US carries this (although Comcast already does, in New England at least), Telemundo is making the channel free to all cable providers for the day of the game. If I've made any mistakes, feel free to correct me.
Also worth pointing out, Telemundo/Mun2 are part of NBC/Universal -- direct rivals of ABC/ESPN/Disney -- giving Universal reason to set the price out of reach for what ESPN was willing to pay.
Nice, just discovered I had MUN2 on ch 705. Come on English versions of telenovelas with smokin hot chicas! EDIT: Seems to be nearly all music videos right now. Probably a decent filler until they can develop content.
If anyone has DirecTV they are listing MUN2 on channel 203 now. For programming all it lists is "Upcoming: Mexico vs. Estados Unidos". I know it wasn't there before because I've been checking.
On my DirectTV,in the onscreen message menu there is a message that says mun2 will be broadcasting the game free for all DTV subscribers
I'm watching it now as well, a music video. Is this a regular feature or is the preview already on? I only have 714, GolTV, in that range, as far as I know, as I pay for all my soccer channels.
I was away last week in rural Upstate NY, but somehow Garrett got in touch with me somehow AO Hartford is on for Wednesday.
Yes, that is what I meant. Here is the facebook event... http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=129157231584
anyone confirm with City steam that they can show the game? I think Vaughn's have dish or direct tv and its right across the street
I just called City Steam and they weren't sure if they were showing the game on Wednesday. They told me to try calling back later today or tomorrow. If somebody else wants to try and call here is their number (860) 525-1600 . I have a handful of people coming with me so the sooner we can figure this out the better.
