So how many first time DC United fans do you think will be scanning this forum now?... I think that a 50% increase in users with DC United as the favorite team is in the future...

    Gratz on getting Adu...

Right then, welcome to all the new member of the cult.

I thought you were going to ask whether Freddy has influenced me to buy Nike yet.

As Tino Palace said in his latest column, this could turn into AdUnited real quickly.

Funny, when I opened this up I was expecting some comments on the composition of the crowds at the game.
I am just imagining the new group of people who are going to be offended at what I shout at the field and at me when I stand up to watch the game (probably get a whole new set of morons who decide the best way to get people to sit down is to start in the back......).

Any numbers on season ticket packages since the signing?

I'm pretty conflicted on whether or not to renew my season tickets next year. It'd be great to see Freddy play, but if Hudson is coaching, what's the use?

If he does come back then I think he would pretty much be forced to play Freddy.

Freddy better get playing time. I've been hearing that your season opener will be broadcast nationally. I've been hearing this from non soccer fans!

Yeah, DCU's first game next year is supposedly going to be on ABC.

I had decided NOT to renew due to my opinion of inferior refs ruining the game as entertainment for me.

The Adu signing has me reversing my position.

I might, but I'll have to see a few more DC United games first to decide whether I'd like the team... Unless St.Louis ever gets a MLS team, I'm a supporter of the league as a whole, and a player here and there... :p

It seems to me that there are more "newbies" (both in number of posts & posters to the DC threads) but it's hard to get an accurate count, unless some of the mods can do that.

On a different note, there are a bunch of guys I eat lunch with, at work, who know NOTHING about soccer and who could care even less about it. Since the announcement about Freddy, they all have been asking questions and some are inclined to watch a game or two on TV. I am going to try to drag some of them to some games, next year.

It does seem to have people talking about him, and DC United/MLS as well. As far as attendance goes, and just getting on some folks radar screens, that can only be good for the league & DC United.

This is true, but people need to remember that Ray did play Alecko a very good bit last season, giving him starts and playing time he really didn't earn but gained based on his reputation as the first overall pick. The point is, Ray will give Adu playing time any way because he does understand that he needs to play 1st pick in the draft, the problem is he doesn't understand that players drafted below #1 can actually turn out to be really good players, even in their first season. Instead, Ray thinks of the rest of the draft as a way to get backup players, not to get players that will actually contribute.
