Tonight he played for the team but I was alarmed when I saw him squabbling with Gomez over the pk last weekend and the gatorade incident after being subbed last month. Is he really this selfish or is he just going through a bad spell? This type of behavior can bring a team down and United is not the team they were in the first three months of the season.
I wasn't sure what I was seeing, but looked like Emilio and Gomez were arguing over the PK. I was surprised. Doesn't coach direct who to kick the PK??
I forget who said something last night, but they believe as I do now too after that, that Emilio has goals as a money incentive in his contract.
I didn't see the whole san jose game, just the highlights on dcunited.com. Just as disturbing as the pk squabble was the fact that in the congradulations on Gomez' goals, Emilio is nowhere to be seen. Sounds like it could be a problem, and they've got enough right now now.
well, actually I thought I saw Emilio ran to Gomez and congratulates Gomez's PK success. So I felt better. Was it someone else?
Emilio was just to the left of Gomez as he took the kick, then ran straight to midfield after the goal. I'm sure he wasn't there congratulating Gomez.
Edit to add that it has been a cool summer in DC and Emilio hasn't score much this year. Coincidence? I think not. I pointed the same thing out last year ... he only scores in hot weather.
I should say that I don't have a big problem with Emilio being selfish. I wish he were more selfish. What does bother me with Emilio is when I see him in midfield trying to dribble around defenders. Or try and do the slick passing bullshit that never, ever seems to work with him. This team has plenty of chefs who can make magic out of nothing. His job is to clean up the grease traps. I get so frustrated watching him come back to the midfield and try and collect passes from defenders. In my mind, Emilio should never, ever be any further back than the last defender. Over the last couple of years, I've learned to be able to tell very early in the game if Emilio will be effective. If he gets called for offside in the first five minutes, he'll have a good game. If he collects a short pass from a defender within the first five minutes, he won't. I know I don't have a great soccer mind. But if I can figure that out why can't Soehn and Emilio?
Can't someone write a decent contract to distinguish goals from the run of play and PKs? Or better yet Penalty calls that result in a PK?
Long time no post... Emilio is not playing like a DP. I have noticed he gets upset when he is not fed the ball constantly. He pouts and will not join in goal celebrations (not just last game with Gomez). I say we should search for a replacement for him even before looking for someone to become the next Moreno (he has 1 year left, correct?)
Luciano Emilio hates Christians! (that includes Gomez, and Fred, AND Eddie Pope) (I thought I'd skip right to the exaggerated version of the thought and save a few posts)
Yes, they are all witches. At least the Argentines say the Brazilians are witches and the Brazilians say the Argentines are witches. Which proves the point. Seriously, nothing's more depressing than seeing all the fans look for scapegoats when the team goes into a bit of a funk. At Colorado, Jaime the designated PK specialist was on the bench and both Christian and Emilio wanted to score. It's better to have teammates fighting for the chance to take the PK than have a team where everyone is too nervous to take the responsibility. I'm saving my scapegoating for the front office. Much more satisfying that way. Tom Soehn is a witch! Dave Kasper is a witch! Kevin Payne is a witch! Will Chang is a witch! The only exorcism that will work is a win in El Salvador.
