This is what's so painful. Even some of these co-hosts who do take soccer calls, 80% of them don't know squat and can't really talk about it with any intelligence whatsoever, even if it's about a team from their own backyard.

It's too bad. It'd be nice to hear some intelligent discussion about soccer on the radio and not have to get it all off a soccer board.

btw, I've said this before, but Joe Tutino, the Galaxy's radio and ex-tv announcer, does the updates on XTRA 1090 all-sports radio down here in San Diego, but occasionally he sits in for someone when they're on vacation. Invariably he gets one or two or three soccer calls, and you have the feeling it's just the tip of the iceberg as he and his co-host (who of course knows nothing about the game) will move the show back towards more mainstream sports. Another station has a soccer show in San Diego but it's on Saturday at 3 in the afternoon, not exactly primetime. I think they're doing alright but they're not setting the world on fire.

    Flashman,

World Soccer Weekly, 8PM- 11 PM PT on 1540AM in LA, 620AM in New York and 1510 in Boston.

Also - BigSoccer Radio Weekend on Sports Byline USA, Sirius Satellite and American Forces Radio

Don't forget also all of the great Internet only shows here on BigSoccer Radio as well. What better way to sound off!

By the way, the San Diego show that you were referring to is "Inside Soccer". Unfortunately the station they were on switched formats, language and religion and now they're only on the Internet on WorldTalk(?) radio.

I recently checked out "The Soccer Hour" with Glenn Davis which is on at 3PM in Houston, Texas on 90.1FM KPFT and found it to also be an excellent show.

Now that you have opened a dirty little can of worms. I would say Nevedas Smiths had better aquaint themselves with a very good lawyer. It is illegal for ESPN International to be shown in the US. Why dont you introduce yourself to the folks at Nevadas and tell them you are spreading the word on their illegal games. I am sure they will be delighted to meet you.

    Excuse me, but why?

Not one person at that station, bar Tolleson, has shown any knowledge of, much less interest in, the game of soccer.

I don't want to hear Mike Francesa or anyone else on that station talk about soccer, any more than I want him to talk about hockey (which he also knows next to nothing about), or synchronized swimming, or contract bridge. It's a waste of time. Let it go already.

One guy in the so cal region that talks soccer, but only when asked is Lee "Hacksaw" Hamilton on 590/1150 here in the SD/LA area. When given some questions he discussed the pros and cons of Chivas coming to San Diego as well. He also talked about the then rumors with Beckham. It sure beats him just hanging up when a caller talks to him about it.

I've heard 'smacksaw' on XTRA talking soccer a couple of times. It's actually quite amusing. Have to give him credit in that he may not be a versed in the sport as he is with Football, but he at least acknowleges that there are people 'out there' that would like that to be a topic of discussion.

Exactly. Hacksaw is faking it, but at least he tries on occasion. Wish he knew a little bit more; he almost might not make a fool out of himself.

Donovan was on 1090 AM (San Diego, but can be heard in Sacramento) yesterday with the Coach and John Krecke (sic). The first question was about Adu (of course) but they then spoke reasonably intelligently about the U.S.' standing in the world (and whether it was improving) and also about the upcoming MLS Cup. Donovan did well, and put up with some somewhat dorkish questions/comments.

I'm thinking for you to even get laid, it would take a bottle of ruffies, dim lighting, and a lot of duct tape.

For what it's worth, Tommy Smyth dispells this in his chat on ESPN.com. I don't know how official it is, but he was confident in his assurances that ESPN2 would still be carrying the CL.
