Couldn't tell from the angle, but I'm assuming that the shot wouldn't have gone in if not handled? In any case, I'm pretty confident that the ball was handled with the intent to prevent a shot on goal, if it wasn't handled with the thought that the ball itself was going into goal. Why else would you handle a ball like that? Does intent matter in this case, or just "actuality". Of course you can never be sure about intent, but with a ball that close to to the net like that, it's pretty clear.

Bobby Convey owes me ATLEAST 3 goals! I cannot believe those misses in the box! I am running out of patience with this guy.....

But fair play to the lads for coming back from 2-0 down VERY early on. To quote Max Bretos on the first DC goal: "The dubious penalty call". I mean, c'mon, Kevin Stott!!!!! That was just RIDICULOUS! I was so pissed off because we haven't even warmed up and we're now 1-0 down!

The second DC goal---at that stage, I am just blaming fate. I mean, can we EVER get a freaking break? It felt like a conspiracy from the soccer gods!

But, uncharacteristically for this version of the Earthquakes, we ACTUALLY came back from the dead!!!!!@#$%^^& Holy $%^&*! And, we actually held on to the end! The way we played in the second half, we DESSERVED to win it!

I have no illusions about the playoffs but I want a showing of heart and conviction from our players. And that goes for us the fans. Let's just get out of this with some pride.

Sanchez played really good out there pretty much won every ball in the air, all his passes were good, and his first free kick in the match was really good, made a difference for the team, played clean and calm, marked his players well, and I think he will play good with the team in the MLS. I think AA would have made a difference instead of Convey and Salinas on the right wing in my opinion. What San Jose needs is better a better defence Hernandez is good but everyone well is not so great. What they need in CAM midfielder right next to Sanchez on the right maybe they should get someone like Burgos provides passes up front and attacks. Burgos said he was going to play with SJ after he was finished with college but I'm not sure if he is done yet. But he was training with the team before don't know if he still is.

Intent does not matter - the ball either has to be clearly going in, or a player has to be on a clear breakaway with no one to stop him. A deliberate handball outside of that situation is a yellow, no matter where on the field it is.

In that case I guess the defender is lucky that there was no Quakes player behind him 'cause the ball had gone over the keeper's head and there was a clear opportunity to knock the ball into an open net if someone was there. BTW looks like there was an opportunity for Glen to be that someone if he had made a quick break on the cross. But he was mostly standing behind the play watching. Wondo(?) broke to the middle / inside to try to get the ball and Glen stood behind the pack.

Really don't want to see Convey or Glen starting anymore....Glen may be a decent late match substitute, but he doesn't do enough consistently as a starter. For those of you who want Amarikwa to start, I don't see that he has a good enough sense of where to be and interact with the rest of the team to be a starter. He's a great late game sub because he comes out and just runs around like a maniac, but that doesn't work for a full match. But, I would rather see him out there than Glen. If Johnson is out for a couple of weeks, I'd like to see Wondo and Quincy start, but when Johnson is back I'd like to see Wondo and Johnson. I really like the way Wondo sees the field, knows where to make runs, and passes, and if he got more time playing with Johnson I think they could make a good team.

I also agree with some who posted that Leitch had a great match - he played very solid defense, and also contributed a lot offensively. He and Zaher are the only guys who seem to be able to send in decent crosses.

I sit at the midfield line and early in the game Huckerby was trotting back to his position towards me after some sort of entanglement in the DC box with a couple of DC players. As he did so I thought I saw a fleeting look of pain or some wincing as he made his way back a little gingerly with a slightly less than normal gait. It was enough for me to think he had aggravated something, maybe his hip. So later in the game when he was a little less than effective I wondered if something affected his play that game. Since it could be entirely my imagination, I wondered if anyone else noticed that?

At least he applied pressure to (and knocked down) Ben Olsen when switched in the middle. 1st half Olsen had all the time in the friggin' world. This lack of pressure on the other team thing is driving me up the wall!!!

But, yeah, Convey is GROSSLY overpaid.

Huh....that ball was going in if he didn't handle it, not requiring another touch from anyone. That's as DOGSO as you can get.

    Thanks!

And damn! You're right Gomez was onside on his second goal. Grrrr.

Doesn't change the fact that the ref was crap.

Also doesn't change the fact that we started the game with next to no focus. We played very disorganized ball until after we were down two goals. We suck.

Okay, I'm very late to the party, but I just got home. My observations:

    1. Ultras, that banner was awesome.

    2. Penalty kick call was crap. I boo'd like hell. Sucks to go down that early.

    3. Second goal was onside. I boo'd like hell. I was wrong.

    4. When RJ scored that goal, everything lit up. The Quakes played better, the crowd got into it, and it really seemed like the Quakes had a good chance, which it didn't seem like before then.

    5. That girl in the recycling challenge totally false started. I'm glad she lost :p (and if anyone on here is the parent, I kid, I kid)

    6. That handball in the box was kind of a stroke of luck. If it wasn't touched, I think it would have sailed high and wide for a goal kick. Holy crap, we actually got a break!

    7. Why the hell didn't we score more in the second half?

    8. This was my first Quakes game at Buck Shaw, and pretty much is my first ever, since I was so young for the first one I barely remember it. I've been to many pro sports games, and this was far and away the best experience. The supporters groups are great, the staff is great (though one usher pointed me in the wrong direction when I was looking for my seat and I ended up in the press area. Got some weird looks there :p) I really like the closeness of Buck Shaw stadium. The players are really cool, as they walked off the pitch a bunch gave me a hand shake, and Shea gave me an autograph. It was all quite awesome

just a quick comment re: the handball in the box. FWIW - This is from the US Soccer website:

The Referee. When evaluating a foul for advantage, referees should consider U.S. Soccer’s “4 P Principle” of advantage application:

I don't believe that the handball met all of the criteria. I don't think that the third and fourth "P"s are irrefutably present in this case, so I don't really have a problem with a yellow here...

Convey's lack of contribution has gained consensus, in fact, it's damned near unanimous, even with the media.

If Toluca wants him, they can have him, cheap even. The dude plays with next to no heart, he's never learned how to get on the same page as his teammates, and worst of all, he doesn't begin to exhibit the skill level I expect from someone who played in the EPL.

I'm way tired of Convey. But this means that priority number one for us is getting a killer left mid to replace Hucks. KILLER! An absolute game changer is what we need. Not an almost, not a pretty good, not a guy who might pan out well, I mean a bona fide butt kicking monster left-mid.

    Know what I'm sayin?

    Go Quakes!

Like all the other SJ games, we started the game way too deep on our half. The defender sat very deep and the CMs too. Our two side midfielders were not best known for tracking back. We saw so many times when Zaher sat very deep facing DC's Fred alone and Fred had tons of space by himself. That changed towards the later part of first half as the backline moved up, pushing the CMs closer to where they should be. This compacted the field and increased the pace. DC was no longer able to pass the ball with ease and they resorted to long ball as well.

Why can't we play like that every game? Everyone here in BS knows our backline and CMs sit way too deep. That creates a big hole in the middle and it is very difficult to move the ball from the back to mid to the front (and the teams end up playing long ball too much). If we can see the issue, why doesn't Frank Yallop see it? This is not the question of who play CMs. Even if it is Corrales ot Convey or Elliot, they can the line higher. The problem is how Yallop places his CMs. It is a formation or strategy problem. The whole point of playing in a small field is to make it difficult and quick.

oh, and the referee was fine. It was the linesman on the side that DC attacked first that sucked.

I must be missing something, because it's not clear to me what the "advantage" rules have to do with a situation that I think just required judgement on whether it was DOGSO.

It's kind of a strange rule that the red vs. yellow on a handball in the box can be more dependent on what the other team did than what the offending player did. Clearly Wallace handled the ball because he thought it was going in, one way or another. Period. There's no other logical explanation. But if it wasn't DOGSO it was only because the Quakes just happened to not have anyone at the far post.

I think they should change the rule so that it's always the same type of card, whether it's yellow or red, for a handball in the box. Knowing that a handball in the box is a PK, there's no logical reason to do it unless you think you are stopping a goal. So the intent of the offending player should always be the same, and therefore it should always result in the same type of card. It would be simpler, less subject to judgment, and it would make more sense.

That shouldn't apply if he's sold by the league?
