Back to the Left Coast for this one. Can we continue to win against weak teams? Kickoff 10:30 PM on FSC, DK and I suppose Tony will be pulling the late shift.
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes I'm worried about this team on the road. Heck, even Boyds seems like a tough roadtrip fr them. But if you are gonna start a long road trip, SJ is the team to do it against. For whatever reason, they have not been able to put a decent game together lately. I would guess Ben starts and Szetela comes in to sub him at about minute 55. Emilio should continue his goal scoring "streak" from the last game ANd I see a Jamie Moreno penalty in this one too. Is there a beer with caffeine, I'm getting too old to stay up this late I'm just kidding, beer with caffeine would be gross, and pathetic - which means Anheuser-Busch probably already has one
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes You mean like bud extra? The definition of gross. I don't think you were the target demographic on this one though... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bud_Extra#Bud_Extra
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes They have a team again? We better beat them. I'm looking forward to seeing Szetela. Is Dana Jacobson pregnant or is she just getting bigger and fat?
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes I hate the Clashquakes. 0-1 1996 Never Forget.
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes looking foward to seeing Szetela out there. have lots of us going out there, mark, pops, me, 6 other people, plus Burchs, Namoffs, and Pontius's families SJ sucks, but still have a couple of players who can score, so we better come out strong since we always have trouble on west coast tours
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes 3 points is expected in this one, have not seen much from San Jose lately to suggest otherwise.
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes That was a good day and it was nice to be there for it. Unfortunately, you got the last laugh
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes Our midfield is suffering. We're down Simmsy, Tino, Barklage, and possibly Boyzzz. (He's not on the injury list but it's dated before the USOC game.)
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes Gomez, Olsen, Fred, Wallace, Pontius, McTavish, Jacobson, Szetela, (and maybe Tino) The only starter unavailable is Simms.
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes For some blonde reason, I thought Szeltela was a defender. Okay, I guess we are in better shape then. For a bit, it seemed like half our midfield was out.
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes This perception seems to be cropping up a lot. I think it's in part because we're used to having a bunch of key players out on injury by this time of year. Still, the thinning of depth worries me with the fixture congestion. I try to be a ray of sunshine!
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes Damn you for somehow putting this song in my head. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUzX82HqSP0"]Will Smith singing You are my sunshine[/ame] //I was about to post a really boring version until I saw and remembered that. Only good thing about LA is the women(LSU) and that only goes so far.
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes It is nice to not be missing multiple key players for once
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes I wonder how many times Max Bretos will mispronounce Mike Zaher's name. I cringe to think of it after all the mess he made of it last year.
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes There have been some clear trends in the past few games that I think will continue into this game: Against Colorado: United gets a questionable PK call (Gomez), Moreno converts Against the Rhinos: United gets a questionable PK call (McTavish), Moreno converts Prediction for SJ: I'm sure it won't be in any way questionable this time. Moreno still converts. Against Colorado: DC player lucky not to be sent off after a rough challenge (Fred) Against Rhinos: DC player lucky not to be sent off after a rough challenge (DiRaimando) Prediction for SJ: That's not a foul, and besides, he had it coming. Against Colorado: Simms injured late in match. Against Rhinos: Khumalo injured late in match. Against SJ: Fingers crossed. Against Colorado: Ty Harden plays for Colorado Against Rhinos: Ty Harden plays for Rhinos Prediction for SJ: Ty, don't sign any long-term leases. (Somebody get that kid a "Washington Generals" Jersey!) Most importantly: Against Colorado: DC win Against Rhinos: DC win Prediction for SJ: DC win (Natch).
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes Get him a red Star Trek jersey. "Lt. Fodder to the transporter room..."
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes i hope our young players don't fall for SJs only gambit which involves bobby convey standing on the wing windmilling his arms like he's doing jumping jacks. if not careful, our players will stare at him, become mesmerized and then convey will suddenly run down the field and kick the ball over the goal...
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes I thought I'd re-post a couple posts from "MLS Supporter's Photo Thread Vol. XIV: Now With More Pics!"
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes Also from "MLS Supporter's Photo Thread Vol. XIV: Now With More Pics!"
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes United hasn't won in San Jose since 1998. United hasn't beaten a Western Conference team on the road since September 1, 2007 when they pasted Dallas 4-0 This is United's fourth trip to the West Coast already (5 if you include Salt Lake City). The funny thing is, it's not even about who is a better team (and clearly United is better), it's about the mentality of playing on the road on the West Coast. Until United can break that trend and simply play "their" game, they will continue to disappoint on these trips. That being said, they have gotten 3 draws from the coastal teams. It's time to get a win and there can't be a better time than now as San Jose is really pretty bad. United caught San Jose last season in the middle of their 9 game unbeaten streak, this ain't happening this year. United will give up their customary stupid goal on a defensive mistake but will prevail 3-1
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes And if we wanna get really crazy, MLS Cup is on the west coast, so if we made it, we'd have to figure out how to win there. And, it's looking like nobody in Seattle would be rooting for us in such a situation. So now seems like as good a time as any to start winning games in the Pacific timezone.
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes I think even with out western troubles we should win this handily, Just have to keep Alverez, and huckerbee in check. Wicks Namoff Jakovic Burch Szetela Olsen Fred Wallace Gomez Pontius Emilio Subs - Moreno, N'Silu, Jacobson. McTavish, Kocic. Janicki, Khumalo. Fred could be put on the left Szetela to the right and Jacobson to the def-mid to use wallace as a sub if his form is at question. I want Szetela to start, but we all know that he might not due to lack of chemistry.
Re: Pre-Match Thread: 7/25/09 DCU @ San Jose Earthquakes No! No! No! Disrespectful this is! I won't have this. It's well known COnvey would miss it wide! As for Weed's point. Wasn't that the last time we did a show live? Might be something to that. I'd willingly sacrifice my career to go on DC's payroll to do shows for away games if that's what it takes, such is my devotion to all that is good in the world.
