We are officially one month out.

Who wants to setup a night before and a pregame point for this extravaganza?

I believe that we may have night before match party plan in the works, along with a nice article on logistication for the mission to Azteca. Will try to confirm and expound tomorrow AM, I believe the final draft was to be done on Friday ... been 'up north at the lake, don't ya know' so hopefully more info to follow shortly.

1st Minnesota Volunteers are staying in Zona Rosa. First squads arrive on Saturday and Sunday.

    I'm in.

I don't know if I mentioned it yet in this thread but I am officially booked. Will arrive very early Monday morning and leave Thursday afternoon. Hotel is being booked as we speak but looks like it'll be Galeria plaza or hotel del principado (sp).

I'm a newb to Mexico City so please post as much info/help in this thread as possible.

It's going to have to be someone who knows the lay of the land and is getting in well ahead of time, preferrably speaks Spanish and knows how to throw a party. Or some combination of those traits in a small group of stalwarts.

Or at the worst: here's a bar, be there at X hour on the night before. If it sucks, we'll be somewhere else. Follow the trail of mayhem to find us if you're running late.

Shinpath and I are in on Monday, leave Thursday. Was thinking of doing the pyramids Tuesday. Anyone recall that bar we were in last time? Also would like to travel via subway just for the thrill.

Same, arriving like 11:30 am on Mon and leaving Thursday am for Toronto (DCU game on Sat). Thinking of doing pyramids for Tuesday too (trying to find a tour that doesn't get rated as sucky).

Don't know about 2005 trip but in 2001 people went to a place called Yuppies in the Zona Rosa (seems to still be there)

As of now I'm arriving tuesday, and heading back on thursday. I was hoping to do some sightseeing in the city center during the day on wednesday, but the change in the match time threw a money wrench in my plans. I'm considering changing my flight and staying an extra day. But if I get an early start on Wednesday morning, I should have just enough time to check out the Basilica of Guadalupe.

Is it true that these tourist locations are closed on Mondays?

There is so much to do in DF, if you never hit some tourist site you won't be any worse off. If stuff is closed I'd recommend taking the subway out to
Coyoacán A nice place you can walk around.. its on the way to the Stadium as well

My current plan is roughly the same as the above. I'm not positive I'll be able to pull it off, though. Still, it's a cunning plan and it's crazy enough that it just might work:

Saturday -> fly from Germany to Florida
snog the wife, hug the kids
Tuesday -> Fly from Florida to Mexico City via Atlanta (free flight)
Thursday -> Fly from MC back to TPA via ATL
kiss the kids, hug the wife
Saturday -> fly back to Germany, arrive Sunday, back at work Monday morning.

If I come out I'll be the one in the BMG shirt on Tuesday night. Is it a 2 hour time difference right now from Mexico City to East Coast time?

I'm on the same flight as MetroFlip, Kirwan, and Jamison coming from Toronto.

Arrive midday Monday. Get situated, drink, eat, who knows, not in that order.

Tuesday - Touristy sites/continue getting sloshed. If we do a Tuesday meetup, awesome. If not, a Wednesday meetup is needed.

    Wednesday - Gameday.

    Thurs - Leave.

It's my first time in Mexico City as well. Most of the NY-NJ contingent will be staying in the Zona Rosa. No plans made yet how we will get to the stadium. I'm open to going via the Subway.

Thanks for the info Brosuf. I'ma definitely look into that.

I think we should all make plans on the subway. It'd be pretty cool if we can all meet up somewhere and travel together. It'll be safer plus a more enjoyable experience.

I'm down for a meetup though wherever. It'll be pretty cool.

You are gonna have one bad case of jetlag when you return to Germany. May I ask what you do in Germany?

Just working on a project out here at the moment. I get to fly across the Atlantic more than anyone should want to.

All of the museums are closed on Mondays. I believe that includes Teotihuacán (the pyramids). Plan accordingly. I'm thinking I will ride down to Xochimilco on Monday and Teotihuacán on Tuesday.

I wouldn't bother with taking a packaged tour to Teotihuacán. You can catch a round trip bus for a couple bucks at Estacion del Norte (north bus station) and go at your own pace.

We went to Yuppies in 2001. I think it would be a good place to meet. As someone else suggested, we can move elsewhere from there.

With the number of American fans coming... seems like it will be a few hundred, something more formalized would be great.

Specific meetup points the night before and and on gameday would be excellent.

We have a month to go, so there is plenty of time. Whatever we can do to create some unity in a place where we will be outnumbered 500 to 1 or thereabouts, let's do it.

Looks like things are just starting to come together. Last time in 2005, some people got together at a bar in Mexico City to watch some NCAA tournament hoops, wasn't too far from the hotel we were staying at.

I've read about how to get to the pyramids by public bus and it seems very doable from Mex City but does anyone know if there tours in English once you arrive? (or at least pamphlets in English?). Everything I've read so far has said there are guided tours at the site there but they're in Spanish (and I'm not fluent). I've been there before with a guide and while you can certainly walk around on your own I think helpful for someone to explain what you're looking at (I'm traveling with 2 newbies).

    Looking for Hotel

Can everyone who has already booked say name of hotel, about what rate, size of group, and location of the hotel? I'm looking at hotels right now, and would like to pick one where a lot of others are staying - hopefully close enough to the meet up spots. I tried to weed through the thread, but it's a bit tough and people sometimes say that they booked but don't mention which hotel.

I don't mind spending a bit for a nice spot, since I got my flight on FF miles, maybe $100 or so a night. Also would consider rooming with someone if anyone else is coming out solo.

FWIW I'm on Delta flight 363 out of Atlanta arriving 11:44 on Tuesday - also don't mind to share a cab if there's anyone else on that flight.

    Re: Looking for Hotel

I'm going with the Screaming Eagles group and we're staying at the JW Marriott. Details are here: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1097318 We've already bought 20 ticket/bus packages from OleOle so there will be at least that many of us.
