We haven't really talked about the Beckham Experiment book and some of the Donovan comments too much. Will be interesting to see how this pans out with the spin control on both sides. Donovan and Klein are already backtracking a little.

But this also will have some impact on the DP rule and how teams are run and marketed - so there might be some tangible Revs discussion material. Mods - if you want to lock/close - feel free.

Just saw this quote which makes it somewhat Revs related: "The book says Beckham, following a career with Manchester United and Real Madrid, found Major League Soccer's travel accommodations "shocking." After dissatisfaction with Sheraton Braintree in Massachusetts, when the team played at New York it stayed at the Waldorf-Astoria in Manhattan instead of the Secaucus Sheraton in New Jersey.

I'm actually quite interested in Wahl's book.

Needless to say, we should have a lot of fodder for banners on the 8th.

Apparently, it wasn’t Beckham’s cup of tea

David Beckham is no fan of the Sheraton Hotel in Braintree. The soccer star, who bunked there while playing with the Los Angeles Galaxy, was apparently appalled at the accommodations. “The Sheraton Hotel . . . may be the worst Sheraton in America,’’ writes Grant Wahl,

It is the kind of hotel that serves cubicle-dwellers from Syracuse in dandruff-speckled sport coats on a five-day, five-city New England business trip,’’ Wahl writes...Or perhaps a meeting place the local teams supporters group...

According to Wahl, Beckham’s teammate Abel Xavier took one look at his plate and exploded: “This is not correct!’’

    :p

It was once said of Lincoln that he was a man who walked with kings but hadn't lost the common touch. Big sports stars, name entertainers and many people of wealth easily lose the common touch. Sad but true. I will not be wasting my time reading about the childish tantrums of players whose lives are dominated by inflated ego's. I doubt it will be written or would sell but I'd rather read a book about Steve Ralston.

A spokesperson for the Sheraton Braintree Hotel stated "While we attempted to accommodate Mr. Beckham in every way possible, he was unfortunately dissatisfied with our level of service. As a result, we have extended an offer of 30,000 Starwood Preferred Guest Points which qualifies Mr. Beckham, and a guest, for a free 3-night stay at the Sheraton Braintree -- blackout periods may apply."

That's fine, Braintree probably doesn't like Beckham either.

See I'd go the immature route:

    Hey Becks,

    F*** YOU TOO!

I like the irreverant route as well.

    "Book it (elsewhere) like Beckham"

"Beckham in MLS: This is not correct"

Have any of you actually been in the Sheraton in Braintree? It is a piece of shit, aids infested dump. I wouldn't want to go there if I was homeless, and they offered me a place to stay.

With that said, Beckham is a piece of shit...but I think everyone already knew that. Let's stop whining about a piece of shit footballer who hates a piece of shit hotel, or a piece of shit town.

Aw, hey now, David... They even tried to accomodate you by putting you in a kitchy 1970's pseudo/Medieval/Olde English castle style buliding, a' la York Steak House and resembling those "King Richards Arms" apartment complex relics of the 70's, as seen in Weymouth, Randolph, Stoughton and Quincy.

You didn't like the Monty Python turrets and faux redoubts? It didn't fill you with nostalgia for Olde England? You didn't care for the wedding style chicken breast with soggy carrots? Aw. :D

Apparently, he went over the edge discovering the Braintree Sheraton did not have a working cow catapult ...

How about the variation of the old college greeting, "Buck Feckham!"

Who makes the hotel reservations anyway?

I mean, if they want to use a Sheraton, why not the Four Points in Norwood? It's a lot closer to the stadium and I think the Patriots use it.

most of the MLS teams use th braintree sheraton. Once again, no idea why, but i know that the Dynamo, FC Dallas, and Colorado have all used it in the past.

(I live in holbrook and anytime any of my non soccer friends see anything soccer related they send me something via-text message.)
