Waibel is a class act. Every away game I've been to he goes over and personally interacts with the fans. And for you Sounders Lurkers here - 32,000 voices booing the great one every time he got the ball after his lesson in soccer etiquet to Mr. Ljungberg was priceless and hilarious. Just one problem for any of you considering travelling to Houston for a Sounders-Dynamo game. In the State of Texas, under the recently revised Texas Penal Code, defamatory or derisive commentary in the form of word or sounds directed at "The Waibel" is a Capital Offense. Even though we didn't come out of this with any points, I enjoyed the whole Seattle experience, it's vibrant and exciting. Those of us who were there in orange were treated well with the kind of reverence one would expect to be given to the travelling supporters of a two time (or if you are inclined to count those other stars too - four time) MLS Champion.
I was initially disgusted at that too Ray. I initially thought that it was the actions of a soccer hooligan type Sounders fan. But then on second thoughts, I noted that all that was taken was the flag and the plastic flagpole was left in place, a hooligan would have broken the whole thing off. In this case the flag was careful (and probably lovingly) removed. That go me to thinking that my hooligan theory was wrong. It was probably a Sounders fan who realizes that his (or her) team are in its infancy, and quite rightly was awestruck when he (or she) saw the two time MLS champions flag. I would not be in the least bit surprised if tonight that flag is sitting somewhere in Seattle in a soccer shrine in someones bedroom.

Dom was a yr off in recalling the same AR (Emiliano Monje) for a disputed goal @ RSL - it was in Aug. '06, Chris Klein was given a goal that bounced off the crossbar and was never over the line in a 3-1 RSL win...
Yep, me too, but this one makes me even madder because the odds were already stacked against us big time then to have the ref screw us too doesn't seem right. The ref always screws us, we know that, but usually we have enough manpower to overcome it.
Considering he, along with many others, recently held the "Bald is Beautiful" fundraiser event for kids with cancer where people shaved their heads.. his response to that type of heckling is what makes him a class act.
Anyone catch Craig blow Nate a kiss after he raped him for the ball. Was my audio screwed up or was the sounders chants on level 2 until they got that second gol? the wacked out Seattle gols had me awitado until Holden smoked that ball for the US .
I remember that game. I screamed and cussed so loud that when I left the blue room a few minutes later to get a beer, everyone in the main bar was looking at me. That ball was a good yard IN FRONT of the line. Someone needs to remind that AR about the rules.
The rule states that the whole ball must get near the white line thingy between the two pole thingys...right?
Some of the folks who made the trip. One of the highlights was walking into a Sounders bar after the game to watch USA play and getting the Craig Waibel treatment. There were some Sounders songs early on, but when Holden scored his goal, we took over with the 'Ole! ole ole ole! Stuie! Stuie!' cheer and got strange looks. It's a shame he scored that goal on the other side of the country :/
Just want to say I ran into some of your orange clad brethren up here and all were class acts. Way better than those whiny San Jose fans. Feel free to visit our emerald city again and we hope for a similar result.
Every week we lose these players and they score goals for the USA I keep thinking those goals should count in our MLS game that week.
I'm starting to hate MLS, maybe we should join another league somewhere? On the MLS website there's a poll, which is the hardest away stadium to play.... BMO, Qwest, Rio Tinto, Columbus, or other? The two fake grass fields are winning, with "other" tied with Crew for 4%. It seems to me that Robertson should be up there too, not listed as "other." What are they thinking? I wish people would landslide the vote for "other." Either that, or just ignore it, which is probably what most soccer fans really do, like most things MLS....
It shouldn't even be a poll question. It's a question that can be answered statistically by looking at the results.
Re: Houston Dynamo vs Seattle Sounders: Saturday, July 11th 3 PM CT (Multi-page thread 1 2 3) All I have to say: They're not singing, They're not singing when they're not winning!
Davis' goal had me singing Somewhere over the Rainbow but then that wicked witch of the East linesmen gives Baby Doll Montera a none goal which blew my trip !! Things are pretty bad when Ianni looks like Pele. but with a patched up team and missing eight players you knew something was going to go wrong. And we should not hate on Seattle, it wasn't their fault MLS sent the three blind mice to Ref. the game. 30,000 plastic or not fans, pep band or diehard followers is pretty good even if their team is hyped up to be the Cosmos.........they are not !!
In my opinion, their fans did not seem plastic. I didn't like the marching band, but that's just me. They do things differently up there, but it's legit. Their fans have a lot of passion.
