I saw the killers play a small hall in Southampton in, I think late 2004, before they were particularly well known, they were still deemed a little alternative in the UK at the time. I think it was a re release later on of Mr Brightside that put them into the mainstream. They seriously impressed me that night, never bought anything of theirs since.
I've just watched them close out Saturday night on the main stage at T in the Park and they gave it all they had. I thought their set was terrific. They built it up well and let it all hang out in the last half dozen songs or so. Ronnie 'the rhythm' Vannucci was exceptional.
I'm sorry but you are way off base with everything. I'm a fan of Franz but they aren't even a fraction of what Talking Heads was. The Killers are closer to the Smiths lyrically and musically than they are to Duran Duran. And in that respect that is why there is an easy divide between those that like the Killers and those that don't. There are some people my age, here in America and abroad, who don't know who the Smiths are or who don't like them . . . as absurd as that is. Meanwhile, Franz are closer to Duran Duran. It is pop-rock, new wave at its best. Nothing wrong with that. Still haven't seen the Killers perform live, so I envy everyone that has.
Have to say that I saw The Killers at the Oxegen music festival a few years ago, and they were absolutely crap that day, although I do like a bit of their studio stuff. Franz Ferdinand strike me as a one trick pony - that 'sound' from their first album was really fresh and interesting, but ever since then it hads either been more of the same, and most attempts to move away from it have sounded fairly awful imo.
Yup. I still like Hot Fuss a lot, though. Sam's Town had a few decent tracks, but fell on its face in its Springsteen worship. The last album (can't remember the name) is just bland.
first of all, i don't see DD as New Wave, not in the sense that The Cars were New Wave, or Elvis Costello was NW. DD comes along as a recording outfit about 4 years into the NW movement, which was originally as much guitar oriented as synth/keyboard. Franz Ferdinand is more like some of the early NW than they are similar to DD, at least in my view. who are The Killers? and why are you guys giving them any attention?
Dear bojendyk, I'd love to know your opinion of the popular rock-pop band The Killers Lots of hugs and kisses Toon³
