Anyone see it yet? What are your thoughts on Bruno? I really liked it and I found it to be hilarious. IMO it is worth seeing.
Meh. Don't know if it was the expectations that killed it for me, but I found it amusing rather than memorable.
Same for me, I laughed a lot but I can't really remember any of it. It was funny just not the same kind of funny that Borat was.
Exactly. One of the most offensive movies I've ever seen, and a complete waste of money. Should have waited to spend it on Harry Potter.
Jesus, who needs to remember anything? It's just a comedy! Scattershot, hit-and-miss -- nothing deep. You're supposed to laugh during it's 90 minutes. That's that. Or course, I only spent 6 bucks to see it at an AMC theater.
I may not have remembered it but I enjoyed it a lot and if you're easily offended why did you go and see it?
Thats the thing, I'm not easily offended by any means. And it wasn't the fact I was offended personally, I just couldn't believe what he said at certain points. Overall, it had its funny parts, just not very memorable and I was disappointed I made the mistake of wasting my money.
Exactly how I feel. Great opening 5 minutes. Really catches your attention. Sacha Baron Cohen has some guts.
I'm a bit tired of SBC's shtick. It was fun for one outing, but now it really feels contrived. It all boils down to saying or doing something outrageous to either get a reaction from the audience, or the person he's playing off, or (in most cases) both. [result]To me, there were far less great moments than in Borat. He got the best laugh of the night out of me when he referred to Ron Paul as Ru Paul. The piece at the swingers party was pretty weak. The segment where he went on a hunting trip with the hillbillies was poorly done, and it had a huge déjà vu feel if you had seen Borat. One other memorable moment was the interview with the terrorist leader, but more because that actually took some serious cojones on SBC's part, and not as much for the laughs it got.[/result]
Im a big Ali G and Borat fan....Bruno was terrible....poor all around. Seems like he was more interested in showing us how many times he could get naked as opposed to getting us laughs. It was just way to crude and staged. This actually was the first time since I've gone to see the Passion of the Christ that people actually walked out 20 min in....I think I made to about an hour before I walked out.
Well I am going to buck the trend and say that I really liked it, one of the best comedies I have seen in years; certainly better than the overrated Hangover. I don't understand what you mean when you say it isn't memorable. There were plenty of memorable, funny bits. The parents offering there child to do anything, his failed TV pilot, his stint in the armed forces and the song at the end. The scene with the cage fighting stole the show though. That was hilarious. I just wish he would do another Ali G film though, by far his best character.
i don't like jackass... but i infinitely prefer jackass to sbc jackass does it to themselves sbc is simply classless
I just finished it, and I loved it. Of course it was all about tricking, shocking, and taping reactions. That's what SBC has always been about. He only had a small window to make a Bruno movie, because he has become so famous.
He was funny when he was first doing his Ali G stuff on British TV but, unfortunately, the joke is the same one now as it was then. Having said that I used to like his stuff on 'The Eleven O'Clock Show', particularly when it was hosted by Iain Lee who was, frankly, funnier than SBC. That show also started the careers of Ricky Gervais and Mackenzie Crook and was an early writing experience for Charlie Brooker and Mitchell and Webb. Mind you, he's still extremely funny sometimes. Anyone who can call Buzz Aldrin, 'Buzz Lightyear' has to be given respek
I feel like he could have done instead of Bruno. Bruno has always been the weakest character and the most intricate. The movie was funny and decent, but not near the high expectations everyone had.
The movie would have had to be fictional since he pretty much retired Ali G a while back due to the fact that he couldn't get away with interviews anymore since everyone knew who he was.
I felt his best interviews were when the people knew who he was anyway. The David and Victoria Beckham one being the best example.
The first Ali G movie should've been made in a similar style to Borat and Bruno but since all three of his characters have been massively popularized, I guess it's too much to expect much else.
