Castillo has a higher ceiling than both Pearce or Bornstein

Whether or not he hits that ceiling is anyone's guess. As I said a few times, he's in a real slump but hopefully playing for his old coach at Tigres will get him back on track.

But the best chance Castillo ever has of playing in a World Cup is with the United States, so it's in everyone's interest.

    eligibility date is august 1.

    there's no rush.

as with everything bs, it was a loud minority's point of view. i don't think that the majority hated rossi even tho they were disappointed with his (dad's) choice.

A LD with more speed and more skills will help USA a lot. Bornstein and Boca can be only temporary solutions there.

talk of his slump is overblown..He's been playing for Club Aguilas del America, a club that for lack of a better word has SUCKED at least the last two years....and has made many good players look bad when they join their ranks for them only to return to the old club and/or coach later and get back to form.....
In essence Club America is a mess at the moment, and has been for a while...I mean, how else could they possibly accumulate (IIRC) a five (six?) month winless streak at home, which happens to be friggin' Azteca stadium...Talk about a bad stretch.....

I hope this pans out. I'd love to see him suit up for us.

If it will make giving Beas another try at LB less likely, then I will gladly welcome him to the team.
Even if he doesn't take become the 1st choice, it will be nice to have some depth. Also having a player with a North American team would make for a good option for friendlies and games where it is not vital to fly someone across the Atlantic twice in the middle of a season.

Not sure about that. Boca's defending has always been pretty pedestrian if you ask me. I think he owes alot of his success and PT to his ability to score goals on set pieces. I saw a stat recently that had him as the #2 goal scorer in WCQ among all active players with ~10. That's amazing for a defender.

Maybe Castillo "lost" his Mexican passport to avoid getting cap-tied in a qualifier. The new rule was on the table for a while before it was adopted.

Sunil is most likely on a plane on the way home from South Africa. This news just hit today. Should he call him from the air phone between the first beverage service and when they hand out the peanuts?

    Chillax.

I'm guessing at some point you have made a bad decision in your life. I'm also betting that at some point in time had you been given the chance to reverse that poor decision you would have jumped on it.

I do agree that the hypocrisy (sp) on BigSoccer is ass backwards stupid.

"Lets all hate Rossi in one breath and then in the next scream at how stupid Bob Bradley is for not playing Freddy Adu and Benny Feilhaber, two players that weren't born in this country yet chose the U.S. over the country of their birth."

But getting back to the main point. People are allowed a second chance without having their dreams of playing in a World Cup destroyed becacuse of as flippant of a response as a F-Off.

A better question is if Dolo makes a come back can HE play left back because he has now lost his spot to Spector. Dolo can't carry Spector's jock and there's no way he gets his spot back. Same with Boca

Perhaps preparing for Costa Rica, Honduras, Italy, Brazil, Egypt, Spain, and then Brazil again trumped making a phone call to someone who just expressed his interest in playing for the U.S. the day after the Confederations Cup final when our coach and federation president are halfway around the world.

I'm sure Skippy from the mailroom could give Edgar a call to get the ball rolling, but I'm not sure if that would have the same effect.

Not even close to being the same situation. Neither of those players played for their birth countries EVER. Rossi did.

Also, Rossi looks like a retarded elf. While Freddy might look like a normal elf, Benny doesn't resemble an elf whatsoever.

Castillo is way more skilled than Bornstein and Pearce. He does have some defensive lapses, which playing under Bob Bradley can be the kiss of death. I hope he gets called in, because he has shown that he can be an excellent player (as when Santos won it all). Aside from his poor showing (along with the whole team) at America, there were concerns he is a primadonna/locker room cancer, and that is why he was shipped out after one season. If he can get back to the level he was at Santos, then I don't think he will get blackballed by the Mexican owners.

Castillo, if he ever gets picked, which I hope he will get worked in, is at least worth a look at a position which we are very thin at.

Is he a team changer like Jones might be? Its just way too early to tell. He's another guy just to add in for possible depth though. With injuries/red cards/etc you just can't have enough decent players.

    Goff is not impressed

    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/

My take is that Castillo could be huge for the USA. He's got a very high ceiling

But I need to emphasize the word "could"

The way he's playing right now, he's not close to his ceiling. He's far away from being the player he could be

If I were Bob, I would tell him that I would gladly give him a chance and a fair look. I wouldn't promise WCQ playing time, however.

If I were Sunil, I would tell him that the next coach after Bob (assuming it's after the 2010 WC) would be told to give him a fair look.

Everyone knows we are thin at LB and have historically been thin there. But we can't give him any guarantees other than a fair & honest chance. If he turns his game around at Tigres and plays to his potential, obviously his chances at making the 2010 World Cup roster are very good.

The USSF does need to get in touch with him ASAP, however.

I agree with the post earlier that said his chances with Mexico are really damaged after this public statement.

So when did Rossi play for the U.S.

    I thought of that, too.

Maybe he wanted to keep his options open so he managed to not play for Mexico short-term.

Odds are it didn't go down like that, but stranger things have happened.

I don't feel bad at all about Castillo because he was born and grew up here. With Jones its more shady (however i still want him).

Adding him to Feilhaber as guys who can come in with 20-30 left in a game and down a goal will greatly increase our equilizer chances
