Man, we didn't just assluck our way into winning our game. It should have been 4-0 at least and would have been a fair score. Surprised to see us play that well, but I think we have played well as much as we've played poorly. We were pretty good for the first 60 mins of the Italy match, pretty much in control all day today, and of course were terrible against Brazil.

I'd like to have an elite coach heading into the World Cup, but I know it isn't going to happen, so I just hope the coaching staff we do have can get this sort of performance out of these guys a bit more often.

I'm watching a completely hilarious sports program on the Italian station Telenova, with 5 screaming guys and an underdressed woman. After 30 minutes, they've given up on ragging on Lippi and the Italian character. As the show is ending they look like they are all going to commit suicide.

I cant believe that with Altidore growing (hes 19 you know), cherundolo back, Bocanegra back, Spector and Oguchi in the defence, and Jones in the midfield with Bradley, and Davies improving each game, along with experience in this cup....we're just gonna get better :)

Great game by the team and Bob. His team came through, his move of Dempsey up top paid off and they kept a clean sheet.

When Bob sucks he deserves to be criticized, when he does well he deserves credit.

Some of those doubters will of course be American.

Never predict against your own team.

I would KILL for Lando to say this at the press conference...

"This must feel good for Rossi. After all, he identifies as an American..."

We looked ok/good on many instances. while Egypt may have been tired and some of them seemd to be hurt or about to... Perhaps their players not as used to hte rigors, physical demands of high level soccer...Still huge result for the US.....an absolute feat....

    Re: Who'd have thunk it?

Hmmm, perhaps we should continue to monitor Paris.
    Goal.com's early reporthttp://www.goal.com/en-us/news/1929/fifa-confederations-cup/2009/06/21/1339079/usa-stuns-egypt-with-confeds-cup-qualification
Egypt, having made all their substitutions, were in a state of disarray on the hour mark when Michael Bradley seized the ball in his own half, strode forward, and played a one-two with Landon Donovan before placing the ball into the far corner.

Just ten minutes later, the belief in the air was palpable as the USA added a third, Clint Dempsey rising to head home an excellent Jonathan Spector cross from deep.

Both teams began to tire in the late stages, but Egypt found a final burst of energy to get the ball into the final third. It wasn't enough, though, and the Americans celebrated the unlikeliest of unlikely qualification the second that full-time blew, Brazil's rout of Italy having already concluded.

I've been drinking Dogfish Head. It is. No need to pretend.

I think Dempsey showed little, other than that header. So if nothing else, Bob doesn't know where to play him. Harkesy's comments were well appreciated by my wife and me. She was much harsher on him than I was (of course, she was a coach...I merely reffed).

Hopefully it won't continue to take a series of stinkers to cause our guys to get fired up. Something is still wrong with this team, and one match of playing the way we expect them to doesn't remove my doubts about our coach.

Though BB looked like he was about to cry when Michael scored. How ****ing proud of his son must he be? And rightfully so.

I am not so filled with gleee that i am predicting a win against Spain but I will say that when was just play and not factor in the name on the other team's shirt, we can be quite skillful.

We were tired too. We have played a man down for half the damn tournament, I dont buy that, we wanted it more.

Anyways, Donovan is having a great tourney, he just needs to shoot on that 1 vs 1, anyways that run was amazing, would have been nice to see him get by the keeper and slot that home.:)

Just crazy, I knew Brazil would show - but by 3 vs. Italy???

I knew the U.S. would play a tough game, but honestly I was thinking a tie would have been likely given our form over the last 2 games.

Gotta love to be a U.S. fan, I do feel kinda bad for both Italy and Egypt though. Well, maybe not that bad *grin*.

Now we get to play a real/meaningful game vs. Spain. I just hope the U.S. can come out strong and not embarrass itself. Show we perhaps were just off form vs. Italy & Brazil. Who knows we may pull an ala WC2002 game like we did with Portugal. I’m not holding my breath however.

This game, and a strong performance against Spain, will do wonders for the USMNT going forward and on into the World Cup. They have to use their newly found confidence to the max against a great Spain team. If they come out flat again, the team gains nothing, while Bob solidified his position today.

I think Bradley was our second best player in this tournament without a doubt. Best player honors go to Donovan which is the way it should be.
