That's exactly the point he doesn't understand. Opening your mouth and criticizing in the public has nothing to do with being a character player. There are a few team leaders who are allowed to do that. If you are new on a national team you are player #20 and as player #20 you have to keep your mouth shut and work your way up - otherwise you are damaging the team structure and are endangering the team success. No team wants those players unless they for sure are a top performer. With everything he's saying right now (new interview today) he is just proving why Löw is right to not have him on the national team.

Well, there's nothing at stake vis a vis the DFB any more, so whatever he says now doesn't prove or disprove anything about Low's decision-making.

I know this is the prevaling view of Rico on these boards, but it's actually pretty silly. We have the stupid tackle against Italy, and "the incident" with Carlos Ruiz.... The tackle on Monday was stupid, but almost everyone would agree, including the guy who was tackled, that the red was way harsh. The Ruiz incident was retarded, and I guarantee you nobody, including Rico, would try to make excuses for it, but every other second of the guy's career indicates that it was a one time lapse in judgment, not symptomatic of bad character. But look at his stats in MLS; his yellows are actually up this year, for a grand total of 3 from 10 games. That's less than 1 card per 3 games, from a guy playing in the "destroyer" role. He is actually a very disciplined player, with exceptional control in his tackles.

    Jermaine,
Can you slide tackle without drawing a red card? If so, you are hired.

Hey, no fair. You didn't tell him which uniform he'd be wearing and what team he'd be playing against. How could he possibly answer the question without knowing that?

just found this from Kicker, from three days ago

    http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/bundesliga/startseite/512033/artikel_Rakitic-schon-wieder-da.html
Auch von Jermaine Jones gab es zuletzt gute Nachrichten. Der defensive Mittelfeldspieler erklärte im Zuge der Saisoneröffnung, er hoffe, nur ein bis zwei Spiele zu verpassen.
There has also been good news from Jermaine Jones recently. The Dmid has said, concerning season begin, that he hopes only to miss one or two games.

Note: The season starts on August 8, so it sounds like he could be back before August is over.

which would be "before August is over." ;) Plus, I was being conservative, which I assume his doctors/coaches will be.

True... my point was that 4 weeks and 1-2 weeks are pretty different, that's all. I agree that its better to be conservative, but maybe the 1-2 games is already conservative. Who knows.

He won't, he just started personal training, and hasn't worked with the team yet. And Magath is a fitness fetishist, and the team has won twice without Jones.

I'm really hoping he will return by next week so that he can get called into camp for the September qualifiers.

    Re: Jermaine Jones update

Last I heard, it seemed like the paperwork would be the holdup for September, but maybe I'm not remembering correctly. Also, if he's not back playing full games within a week it wouldn't be worth calling him in most likely for the September camp.

If possible, call him in anyway. Get him acclimated.
Doesn't matter if he plays. But, I do think it's important he play in the Qualies.
Don't want a David Regis situation again.

    Re: Jermaine Jones update

As someone stated in another thread, if Jones' FIFA paperwork isn't approved of the week leading up to the qualifiers, Schalke does not have to release him. And they probably won't, unless they have to.

I don't see much of the problem with having Jones stay with his club in September if he's not going to play for the USA yet. He should probably get back into the fold with his Schalke. I think Jones will play a big role in the Honduras game on the road.

BTW.. in 1998, Regis was one of our better players. His situation was far from the biggest problem we faced in that horrible World Cup.
